billymg: morning asciilifeform
billymg: any signs of the riots starting in your area yet?
asciilifeform: billymg: not detectably to naked eye
asciilifeform: billymg: why, is there 1 scheduled ?
thimbronion: Louisville and LA saw some action yesterday
thimbronion: er - was it St. Louis? I forgot.
billymg: asciilifeform: none scheduled, but seems to be spreading to other areas with high orc populations
thimbronion: Much evidence antifa is involved.
asciilifeform: last decent riot in the capital was afaik in '70s
shinohai: "Do you have a permit for this chimpout? Can't riot without a permit." "Damn."
feedbot: http://mvdstandard.net/2020/05/police-precinct-sacked-by-minnesotans-as-civil-unrest-continues-in-minneapolis/ << The Montevideo Standard -- Police Precinct Sacked By Minnesotans As Civil Unrest Continues In Minneapolis
BingoBoingo: ^ Seems far more effective than anything the low on melanin crowd managed in the US this past century.
thimbronion was on zoom call this morning with some people in the area whose trips to Target hat to be cancelled and who claimed to hear lots of shooting.
adlai: when folks are shooting, it is indeed a good idea to be far away from targets
adlai: although there's a whole art and science of conic sections and how to not get killed. fun stuff.
asciilifeform: adlai: around here, every day in police radio 'shot at street xyz'. they rarely hit anyffin tho
asciilifeform: (why, is a mystery.)
asciilifeform: ameri-orcs seem to be a 'process is more important than result' type of folk.
asciilifeform: police also miss 99%. (also mystery, given that they're nominally forced to practice erry week)
asciilifeform: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2020-05-29#1013416 << 'effective' implies an... effect. wat's the effect ?
snsabot: Logged on 2020-05-29 12:03:28 BingoBoingo: ^ Seems far more effective than anything the low on melanin crowd managed in the US this past century.
asciilifeform: afaik these typically burn down own reservation, strictly.
adlai: "in other news" (tm) /s (r) : there appear to be new fleas stuck crawling my 'blog'. i sincerely hope that not a single one of these is piloted by joerodgers , not because i have any problem with crawlers mucking along through that site, but because it is not included in lists of "bitcoin blogs" for the simple reason that it is not a bitcoin blog and should not be considered one.
asciilifeform: adlai: it's most likely these
snsabot: (agriculturalsupremacy) 2020-05-27 asciilifeform: thimbronion: i've been seeing record-breaking qty of http liquishit on own boxen recently. appears to be side effect of mp's 'buy www traffic' thing (i expect erryone he linked to at whatever point, is getting 'stress test' )
asciilifeform: adlai: why, do you pay per byte or wat
asciilifeform: ( oblig-spam : wai not buy some troo hosting, adlai ! )
adlai: seriously, read yourself to death in the the NYTimes tech blogs before you go looking for anything 'tech' in my site. it is, and always will be, almost entirely bounded by mathematics of no practical utility on one side, regrets from my own mistakes on a second side, and possibly a few different forms of fiction in the remaining hyperplanes
asciilifeform: adlai: bots dun read, lol
adlai: asciilifeform: no, although i read the logs with my own eyes, so i notice when crawlers seem to be eating their own tails; or, when a fresh one shows up.
asciilifeform: i see nominally 'fresh one' ~weekly
adlai: that is because you actually publish interesting stuff! so you get linked from all kinds of places
asciilifeform: mno, on log box
adlai: dunno how you judge freshness. i typically look at the 'shape' of the graph of pages requested, and only glance at the ip column, and whatever you call the self-identification of the crawlers, as a curiosity. they are usually not reliable, anyway.
asciilifeform: adlai: re my www -- i have actually nfi how many actual humans read it. (if one were to 'if it dun look like obv. bot, it's alive', then coupla thou., if by 'people comment', maybe 5-6 )
joerodgers: @adlai I've already wrapped your RSS in lightning and began collecting payments for your great work! Many thanks!
joerodgers: JK, I don't know how to crawl a site
adlai: bahahaha joerodgers ya got a laugh out of me there !
adlai: it is most probably an entirely automatable task, these days. you could probably install a program that'd run in the background as seamlessly as the "Generate Coins" checkbox of bitcoin circa 2009.
asciilifeform: lol checkbox
asciilifeform might be the only 1 who never used the gui client ?
adlai: for all you know, half the 'viruses' on your computer do exactly this, and nothing else... no shitcoin mining, no ddos, just diffusing the ip footprint of someone's web crawler.
asciilifeform: adlai: approx half of the ms shitware samples i collected when did this for a living, were proxybots
asciilifeform: (2012-16 roughly)
asciilifeform: it's 1 of the very, very few ways to 'monetize' a typical ms victim's machine
adlai: that makes sense. my impression of DDoS botnets is that they are a classic case of your 'glass cannon' metaphor.
asciilifeform: usually spam rather than dos
adlai: so, anyone who wants to keep their botnets alive for longer than one shot, does something other than ddos
adlai speculates, though, not being as familiar as you with these warez!
adlai: joerodgers: don't worry, if I ever do have an article - singular, most likely - about bitcoin that could actually be relevant to your archive, I'll ping you.
adlai: "nine nines" of the things that I say about bitcoin are taken from authors that you have already archived.
adlai: ... and you can probably simulate my opinions about the remaining tenth-to-the-tenth from the copious kilobytes of argument that I have had in the public logs served so graciously by asciilifeform !
joerodgers: Right on, I appreciate it.
asciilifeform: adlai: i still recall the days when you used to post lispisms etc. wat happened to that ?
adlai: not much changed, lol. sbcl, talking to an exchange, is still one of the top contributors to the heat death of my computer.
shinohai: You still work on scalpl adlai ?
adlai: occasionally eclipsed by prb, although i don't see a reason to leave prb running any more than, e.g., gimp.
asciilifeform: lol wai prb
adlai: shinohai: most of the 'work' these days involves planning, since writing code faster than you can delete it is a great way to end up with a giant unmaintainable mess.
asciilifeform: adlai: possibly said this before, but asciilifeform in 2008-10 had phase where 'let's make trading bot', but was cured after realized that 100% of all places where one might use it, 'front-run' or publish ~entirely fictitious stats, so in no case 'game worth the candles'
shinohai: Yeah exchange api's are fickle things, doesn't make sense to cast in stone I suppose.
adlai: asciilifeform: convenience. it is not worthwhile to dabble in trb, that is more of an all-or-nothing approach; however, if i'm gonna occasionally punt a coin between exchanges, or send a donation to someone, then prb is imo the desktop equivalent of 'wallet app' for a pnoje
asciilifeform: ( this is entirely aside from the problem of 'can even withdraw the winnings, or gox?' )
shinohai: 'can even withdraw the winnings, or mpex?'
asciilifeform: shinohai: all goxes follow roughly same evolution. rather like the life cycle of star
adlai: re: bucketshops, my impression is that the industry will have to improve its behavior, eventually; although, it'll take decades for educated consumerism to enforce this, since money is quite stupid.
asciilifeform: adlai: i admit i dun see where 'convenient'. but it's yer coin, i suppose you can feed the privkeys to 500MB of ????? if you feel like.
asciilifeform: adlai: what 'industry' lol
asciilifeform: have homeopaths 'improved their behaviour' ? astrologers ?
adlai: there is a lot of truth to "if u so smart, how cum u aint rich" - smart and rich are not only orthogonal, but often, capital causes early pruning of unnecessary brain cells
asciilifeform: 'i'll keep putting hand into crocodiles, eventually crocodiles will improve their behaviour'
adlai: maybe asciilifeform imagines me to own stacks of early adoptronium?
asciilifeform: adlai: i assumed not, or wai would bother with tradebots etc
adlai has never seen more than two digits of btc in the same place, and even that, barely
adlai: re:bucketshops, by 'industry' i mean the retail side of things. the folks who are able to frontrun their customers, before hedging the entire customer base against an actual forex broker, or stock exchange.
asciilifeform: adlai: goxes are intrinsically promisetronic. i.e. it is not physically possible for operator to prove that he does not frontrun.
asciilifeform: this goes same for 'actual forex' as for mpex as for orig gox etc
adlai: also known as half of israeli's hitech sector, although a mere shadow next to the things that go whoosh in the night
adlai: correct, it is not provable; at least, not according to my understanding of what is provable, and what is not.
asciilifeform: the 'honest gox' is the same kinda laugh as 'honest seekrit email service', 'honest vpn', etc fried-ices
adlai: however, it could become easier to "bank run" on bad actors, provided that good actors exist, and traders are slightly more intelligent than the average "MtGox WHERE'S MY MONEY" protestor
asciilifeform: adlai: 'good actors' would starve to death in three minutes
adlai: asciilifeform: am I wrong in perceiving that your distrust is towards the bucket shops, rather than all exchanges?
snsabot: Logged on 2020-05-26 11:52:21 asciilifeform: fwiw i've yet to hear of any 'btc fortune' amassed via anything other than scamming. in that respect very similar to traditional moneys.
adlai: for purposes of this question: NYSE is not a bucket shop, although it could very well be that you need a "seat" in order to not have your broker be one of the bucketers.
asciilifeform: as i understand, 'bucket shop' is simply what usg calls folx who do what nyse does but w/out usg permit.
asciilifeform: but otherwise entirely same thing.
adlai: mno!
adlai: a bucket shop is a very specific thing.
adlai: the word "bucket" is there because it used to be the case that brokers would collect lots of bets, figure out the net position they needed to take in the real exchange, to hedge the positions of their customers, and then send someone to the exchange to hedge the broker's books; i.e., they bucketed all the trades they needed to make.
asciilifeform: i'm aware of what it normally refers to. but dun see a significant diff b/w it and 'legitimate' ops where folx pay for supposed titles to imaginary objects ('paper gold', 'paper coin', etc)
adlai: eventually it became credible to claim that every trade by a customer, was immediately relayed to the exchange, and that all the broker did was this relaying.
adlai: there, not much of a qualitative difference, no. definitely not the kind of difference that interests you.
asciilifeform: it's rather like 'should i put hand in alligator, or crocodile'. for the purpose of 'what will happen to hand', there is no operative diff. b/w the species
adlai: however, it is simply incorrect to call mtgox a bucket shop, the same way it'd be incorrect to ... e.g. call me a gook. you can call me a kike, or a scammer, or a neckbeard, or all kinds of things, but calling me a gook is just... factually incorrect.
adlai: as someone who has pried things out of more than one dog's locked jaws - difference exists.
adlai: I can understand why it is not a difference that interests ~you~, asciilifeform !
adlai: but, the difference exists.
asciilifeform: i suppose diff is interesting to prosecutor who has to fill in form w/ correct penal code paragraph. but not sure to whom else.
adlai: for lack of a better euphemism - stuntmen, who either get paid to jump through the burning hoop, or do it for fun.
asciilifeform: from my pov, chumpatrons ~all effectively interchangeable. 'yer money today, jam tomorrow!111 we promise!'
adlai: and yes, stuntmen often end up going the way of Art Scholl, if they are fortunate enough to have such a notable employer
asciilifeform: even mp spilled the beans on subj at one pt.
snsabot: (trilema) 2017-06-08 a111: Logged on 2015-03-06 03:29 mircea_popescu: if you are one of the people buying belgian rubber concessions on the stock exchanges, you make money. if you're in africa, you make quick with the hands and feet.
adlai: you may have noticed that I put quite a bit of effort into discouraging others from using my program, precisely for the reason that it increases the chance they end up as fuel in someone else's chumpatron.
adlai: maybe one day I'll have my own perpetuum mobile, powered by the free energy of gullible tourists and greedy americans; that day is probably further in the future than my funeral.
asciilifeform: adlai: it strikes me as a 'work 12h/d to make min.wage while you sleep!' kind of affair. and yes, it is to yer credit that you never tried to sell etc. but still , rly, why to bother ?
asciilifeform: in usa, lolstreet goes to great lengths to sell wage slaves on the illusion that they, too, 'own shares'. this is the usa equiv. of sovok's 'you too can join kpss and attend party meetings', i.e. illusion of participation.
adlai: "When I was a student, my professor taught me the difference between a good question, and a great question: a great question is one to which the professor has already prepared an answer, ahead of time. What Adlai just asked me is only a good question." - adlai's ochem professor, circa 2018
adlai: dude waited for laughter to die down and proceeded to continue his lecture, unfazed
adlai will try and do one better, and actually answer asciilifeform 's question!
adlai: there are assets that purport to give you passive income, purely due to investment of capital in someone else's business, and earning from its profits - stocks.
adlai: there are also assets that purport no such promise... most of the world is this kind of asset: pretty much anything you can knock off a table, along with a fair amount of the various financial mumbo-jumbo. also bitcoin.
asciilifeform: elsewhere : 'meld' . ( and yes these folx aint tuned in, but will put ftr. )
snsabot: (ossasepia) 2020-05-29 diana_coman: hm, I am not aware of any decent sub-line diff tool, no.
adlai: eh, that's more interesting than me retelling the legend of the fifth jew lost in the orchard
asciilifeform: adlai: re yer thrd, my point wasn't 'no one wins at vegas'. point is that 'even if you won at vegas, it was bait so you might come back and lose 10x; only house is playing +ev at vegas'
asciilifeform: and, i suppose also, that the only significant diff b/w vegas and nyse, is that vegas odds are fixed by public decree
asciilifeform: i.e. if it so happens that only house wins at vegas for week straight, inspectors come to test the rngs. whereas at nyse etc this is routine and folx will even laugh if you complain.
adlai: y'know, if what interested me was writing a bot to play on poker sites, or learning how to get that epsilon percentage edge at blackjack so I could be a professional casino customer, I'd be studying those games, and not the 'numbers game'.
asciilifeform: i suppose there are more unpleasant ways to earn min.wage
adlai: "quick with the hands and feet", I hear it can even earn more than min. wage if you are quick enough!
asciilifeform: philosopher's stones are traditionally made of 'i hear...'s.
asciilifeform: if adlai's stone worked, i dun expect he'd be talking about it. so must assume it's a 'will work any day nao!111' sort.
adlai can't quite yet pinpoint a specific dilexeme, or turn of phrase, but there is just something about diana_coman's version of mircea_popescu's self-professed only subject of mastery, that grates the cortex
adlai wonders where that one MPism is buried, deep within the logs...
asciilifeform: adlai: in all times an' places, there were folx who dug up a treasure (or watched somebody else dig up, then whacked'em on head, etc) and instead of content to sit in beach and smoke 100 $ bills, dress up as 'guru' and lecture 'how to me'
adlai: well maybe if DC hires MP as slavemaster to whip the "younghands" in #ossasepia, she could actually "go to kremlin and get work done" instead of playing manager
adlai: although he's probably as sick of the ESLtards as she is.
asciilifeform: adlai: the 'work' is secondary. some folx like to play domination games, and no amt of beach is substitute
asciilifeform: ... and the victims also gotta squirm properly. sorta how 'mp frustrated', from his pov he was cheated, thought that his thing was upgrade from vivisecting dogs or whatever did as a boy, but in the end 'same as the dogs'
adlai: maybe it's not even a dilexeme, and just the word 'agenda'
asciilifeform: apropos story , as told by man himself, iirc 'a gypsy once lamented, 'i was teaching my horse to go w/out food, and was going so well, but just as he had started to learn, went and died''
adlai: ... and ~everything that goes along with it, if you imagine the nice air-conditioned conference room of #ossassepia that parellels the twelfth-century castle of #trilema
adlai: aha
adlai: "frog without legs - deaf!"
asciilifeform: from asciilifeform's homeworld, similar parable: 'stierlitz doused cat with petrol and lit. cat went three metres and stopped.' ''he ran outta fuel', stierlitz reasoned.'
adlai: speaking of that part of the world, I recently finished "Heart of a Dog", although translated to English, and was wondering whether you recommend the originals
asciilifeform: adlai: i rec the original in 100% of cases
adlai: allegedly there are ru translations of William S. that are better than the original iambig migranamers!
asciilifeform: there are.
asciilifeform: and poe, and pretty much 100% of 'english classics'
asciilifeform: i choked when ate the originals.
adlai: so your rec of originals is for 100% of ... Bulgakov?
asciilifeform: i rec the ru ver (whether orig or not) in ~100% of cases.
adlai has heard of enough examples in literature of 'original' being mediocre, or even downright awful, when compared to a derived work, to distrust the "always read the original" dogma
asciilifeform: english is just about african, barely supports concept of literature
adlai: ah.
adlai: well, english is a creole / patois / whateveryoucallit
adlai: french, for saxon peasants, or something along those lines
asciilifeform: adlai: if yer curious what english looked like before it went african, learn icelandic
asciilifeform: rather like english, but pre-leprosy, has cases etc
adlai: iirc 'patois' is the general term, and 'creole' is a specific language, although I am often mistaken in these things
asciilifeform: 'africa' is imho adequate description.
adlai: africa ain't a language, it's a plate!
adlai still can't get into the mother's skull the concept that israel is a part of africa, in the only sense that is objectively definable; this may be a lost cause.
adlai: apparently the World Health Organization considers Israel a part of "European Region", although both Morocco and Iran are "Eastern Mediterranean".
adlai: it's nice to see that the good doctors are so polite about their political science!
asciilifeform: africa is an affliction in the head, not in the ground.
adlai will read your elaboration on the subject, since apparently this is one of the few places remaining on the 'net where such a conversation can be had civilly.
asciilifeform: can't think of where needs elaboration
asciilifeform: in 19th c europistan, trad. model was 'some apes climbed down from trees, learned to think and survive where banana doesn't grow all year long, went to other continents'. model -- defective, cuz the change wasn't in fact permanent.
adlai: lemme put it this way, unless you have a more specific description of the symptoms, i see the 'africa' of which you speak as quite prevalent in most parts of the world.
adlai: rather synonymous to typical human idiocy
asciilifeform: indeed prevalent.
adlai was thinking that maybe by calling it 'africa', you had in mind something more specific to the kind of idiocy found in nations of the african continent, rather than just the general idiocy of ... for lack of a better euphemism, the one so popular here: 'orcs'
adlai: although I must admit being as unable now, as I was in previous years, to discern whether your 'orcs' are just any rabble, or specific kinds of idiots.
adlai: the euphemism I often used in my own mind for the typical specimen of _H. sapiens sapiens_ is "rabbits", since they win at competitive neoteny, although this might not be the kind of idiocy that you call 'orcs'.
asciilifeform: orc is broad spectrum. and not necessarily unintelligent, in the usual sense. orc can learn e.g. php, if he thinks it'll help to get his cock wet, or to whack other orcs over head etc
adlai discovers that he is no longer able to speak in #ossasepia, thanks to some combination of dpb, mp, and of course, who could forget... g_l !
asciilifeform: adlai: iirc it's a members-only thing
asciilifeform: i thought it was clearly marked
adlai: when I stopped lurking there, they had yet to implement the voice requirement.
asciilifeform not member either
adlai: amusingly enough, my highest deedbot rating is an imported rating from a dude who iirc never even showed up in #trilema
asciilifeform has nuffin against 'members only clubhouse' folx, and 0 compulsion to spam where not invited
asciilifeform: adlai: to revisit the orcs -- it's spectrum. and for instance asciilifeform is more orc than e.g. leibniz. asciilifeform not able to properly grasp why leibniz did 90% of what he did.
asciilifeform: i can discuss the fact of the matter, w/out fully grasping the nature. sorta how the folx who discovered compass, did not know about magnetic field, or why planet3 has one, but could make certain use of the 'naked eye' fact.
adlai: incidentally, I'm glad to see that whaack has found a satisfactory content fount in the proverbial sick-string. it is quite an endless timesink, and worth remembering that the best guitarist is always, in every legend known to man, the one who sells proficiency in exchange for the spirit coin.
asciilifeform: adlai: afaik he dun live by the guitar an' the begging dish. but on bag o'moolah
asciilifeform: but i dun know directly
adlai: no, that is not what I said. what I said is inspired by the fact that his blog seems mostly to be a practice journal, which seems like a good use of a blog.
adlai never kept a practice journal in the years of studying music, although, this was not the 'school' to which any of my teachers ever subscribed. practice journals are probably much more helpful for self-taught musicians.
adlai: holy anachronism, batman. wrt: http://ztkfg.com/2020/05/names-of-scale-degrees-and-the-three-forms-of-minor-scales/ whaack have you ever heard of scale modes? you are using terminology which, while not exactly incorrect, might also get you quite 'lost in translation'.
adlai: my bad, you appear to have encountered the concept, although it doesn't receive much mention.
adlai: aiui, scale "degrees" are more a curio of analytical music theory, whereas modes are more useful for actually playing. obviously ymmv
adlai wonders whether http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/ossasepia/2019-12-28#1014210 applies equally here... either way, unless whaack actually wants advice (and it is not a matter of "solicitation" in the sense of payment, merely a matter of not talking to a wall), say so
snsabot: (ossasepia) 2019-12-28 diana_coman: adlai: unsolicited advice is for writing on your own blog, not in here; do write in here when you have some unsolicited but useful work you want to showcase.
adlai: the advice I have about music in general, more specifically manufacturing it, and most specifically, from a guitar, is quite limited, although extensive enough that I'm not going to type it out in the hope that some 22nd-century archeologist of bitcoin finds it useful.
adlai: if there is an audience for it, that is a different matter. idgaf what falls into the nonexistent begging dish.
shinohai: I'm surprised DC finally "gave him permission" to play guitar, what with all the other imprtant work going on there that needs doing.
asciilifeform: shinohai: why exactly not ? for so long as he turns it into properly bureaucratized 'planned schedule' thing, seems like it oughta scratch that bdsm itch just same as anyffin else
asciilifeform: y'know, exactly like how catholic church was a++ ok w/ nuns writhing in ecstatic fits, so long as was 'on jesus' and not on cock
asciilifeform: i.e. it's a process club, not result club.
asciilifeform: 'causes, not purposes'(tm)(r)(c)
asciilifeform: in wholly unrelated lulz, apparently 1 of the vendors that sold rk boards, has portable rk3399 that supposedly aint rubbish. tried to buy, but seems that they're made a la FG, in 3fig qtys, and available nowhere..
asciilifeform: if anyone tried these (and in particular w/ civilized rk gentoo ) -- plox to write in.
asciilifeform: theoretically could be a usable replacement for c101pa etc .
asciilifeform finds it a little strange that to this day, 'portable comp with 30hr battery where can put own os' is a niche crackpot item, and ~unobtainable at any price
shinohai: But why would you need own OS? Terrorist!
asciilifeform would readily pay coupla thou. for a 30hr+ portable that has no intel, amd, or otherwise x86 in it, boots blobless, readable display, etc
asciilifeform: the 'pine' folx seem to be catastrophically underpricing their box ( 200 $ )
asciilifeform: shinohai: the miniscule production runs also mystifying -- most of the cost of producing a lappy is tooling for the plastics
asciilifeform: if made 100, makes as much sense to bake 10,000
shinohai: The pinebook plastics just looked .... cheap to me.
asciilifeform: shinohai: the 1st box was laughable rubbish. the current one supposedly magnesium and approx on par w/ 'saecular' lappies
asciilifeform: e.g. ips lcd, etc
asciilifeform: but doubtful that will ever test it, it's 'unobtainium', rather like ye olde 'loongson'
asciilifeform: in so far as i understand, thing oughta boot my rk gentoo w/out major modifications
asciilifeform: ( would need to enable framebuffer in kernel, but that's afaik all )
asciilifeform considered at various points crackpotteries, e.g. have a rk mobo baked to fit x60 chassis. but apparently impossible to source rk chipset in prototype qty's , at any price, w/out 'chinese connection'
asciilifeform: i.e. the ye olde 'marvell problem'.
snsabot: (trilema) 2016-11-28 asciilifeform: ( in a much earlier even thread , about the marvell chipset used in pogotron, i found same thing -- the chip is simply not www-orderable in the west, at least not at any kind of price point that isn't a laugh when stood next to the price of whole pogo )
asciilifeform: this aint limited to laptop, either. e.g. rk3328 would make for usable workstation, except you can't get one that talks to fast storage. for any $ at all .
asciilifeform: (or w/ >4GB ram)
asciilifeform: simply dun exist.
asciilifeform: no known escape, yet, from x86 gulag.
trinque: asciilifeform: I actually have a pinebook pro coming in a few weeks
trinque: intending to put my new distro on it, will report back on whether the thing sucks
trinque: if doesn't suck, I'm going to order a stack of them
shinohai: Heya trinque .... how goes the new distro thing anyway?
trinque: whole turd builds as of recently, actually.
trinque: I might find some time this weekend to crack off a peek, will see
asciilifeform: oh neato trinque . where didja buy ?
trinque: straight from the maker
asciilifeform: aa, back when they had any
shinohai: Awesum trinque I look forward to seeing it unveiled.
trinque: asciilifeform: I just added one to cart on their site
trinque: afaik still takin orders.
asciilifeform: trinque: i tried earlier today, it 'adds to cart' but when go to put money, eggog
trinque: Sorry, we do not have enough "14″ PINEBOOK Pro LINUX LAPTOP (ANSI, US Keyboard)" in stock to fulfill your order right now. Please try again in 4320 minutes or edit your cart and try again. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
trinque: ah yep.,
asciilifeform: per vendor, it's exact same rk as in 'c101pa' , but minus the boobytrap ic
asciilifeform: oughta be binary-compat. w/ rk3328 (tho needs diff sdram init in loader)
trinque: I think they just got bum-rushed, which is hopefully a positive thing for their longevity
asciilifeform: it's a well-known shop, at 1 time they sold the 3328
asciilifeform: kinda perplexing that (afaik) no one else is making similar box. the 3399 is quite mass item (various chinese 'tv' boxen)
asciilifeform: trinque: i assume you already ported yer linux to 3328 ?
asciilifeform found that ave1's gnat worx a++ there, aside from the 'dirty termination of tasks' esoteric eggog
asciilifeform: in ffa tests, gets approx. 1/2 the performance of asciilifeform's opteron. which on <5watt is imho nifty.
asciilifeform not tried rk3399, aside from the ill-fated c101pa, where balked on boobytrap
