cgra: i sense a risk my current tkinter gui may end up rewritten if wanted a log search that would ~instantly filter text as search terms are typed. and probably other roadblocks waiting to surface, given my lack of deeper tcl/tk understanding. awt you (or anyone else) want a patch for it regardless? may serve as a general py gu
cgra: i fiddling item nevertheless. oh, and what if there were no clean upgrade path to it, from irc-blatta, other than starting over? this may or may not be the case...
awt[cgra]: cgra: I would definately be interested in seeing a general py gui fiddling item.
cgra: re log search in general, i suppose somebody could, if wanted to, retro-'hearsay' old irc logs into pest history. and make possible netchain-links all the way back to 'day 0'.
asciilifeform: cgra: asciilifeform thought about this, but imho promises to be gnarly (there's >1 historic irc chans, many of which ran concurrently)
asciilifeform: and would be odd to have modern-day netchain replies to ancient msgs displayed next to the latter
cgra: asciilifeform: looking specifically at pest_0xfa_pre_draft.pdf, maybe want to specify handles case-insensitive?
asciilifeform: cgra: notbad idea imho
asciilifeform: (atm and in prev. specs they were case-sensitive)
asciilifeform: cgra: tricky in details tho.
asciilifeform: ( and brings up the q -- why display e.g. hypothetical 'Cgra' as hearsay of 'cgra' when the 2 readily distinguishable if both are present on net ? )
asciilifeform: seems as if it ~subtracts~ useful info re authenticity, rather than adds any
asciilifeform: a faux 'cgra' with handle 'Cgra' helpfully supplies 'confession' re his bogosity
cgra: right
asciilifeform: ( asciilifeform's original 'ascii-only' rule re handles was so that they are guaranteed to be visually distinguishable. )
asciilifeform: would seem that case-insensitive treatment of handles would win 0
cgra: yeah seems so. if someone sets his handle to 'Cgra' knowing 'cgra' already exists, he's a dick. but if his handle was set independently, and nets were later joined, they even aren't now 'two bobs' in the worst possible sense, either
asciilifeform: aaha
asciilifeform ftr is experimenting with gui display which makes 'forks' visually apparent w/out any special programmatic handling on protocol end
asciilifeform: ... is the reason wai left'em out of the draft spec
cgra: asciilifeform: plz shoot screens whenever have possibly interesting samples
asciilifeform: cgra: defo will post once it loox the least bit interesting
