verisimilitude: I read an interesting paper about the serpent cipher, for implementation. Unfortunately, this means any interesting metaprogramming I could've done with a Common Lisp implementation is no longer feasible, so I may not bother to even write that version.
verisimilitude: As much as I hate the idea, I may find myself using someone else's Pest hacked to provide the interface I desire, before my version even approaches something resembling begun.
verisimilitude: The worst thing about software in-use can be how difficult it becomes to replace, regardless of other considerations.
verisimilitude: I shouldn't rant more for now.

asciilifeform: neato thimbronion . asciilifeform pressed, switched to it, lessee.
asciilifeform: thimbronion: my blatta's been wedged since after this line
bitbot: (pest) 2021-12-01 jonsykkel[billymg]: i have same then likely
asciilifeform: ( i.e. lag counter in weechat is running, ~700+sec nao )
asciilifeform: thimbronion: station is receiving/sending msgs, but irc shitter seems to be hung.
asciilifeform: ... reconnecting dunwork.
asciilifeform: restarting blatta, unsurprisingly, worked (for how long -- nfi)
asciilifeform: thimbronion: i suspect threadism barf
asciilifeform: ( you've a deadlock somewhere )
thimbronion: asciilifeform: yep.
thimbronion: single threading db access is major surgury but looks like the patient's only hope.
thimbronion: *surgery
asciilifeform: cgra: very interesting and detailed dig, ty.
asciilifeform: cgra: seems to asciilifeform that in short term, the closest thing to a pill is autorestart on crash (and with some interval) , which iirc many noad operators already doing. (who doesn't -- prolly oughta)
asciilifeform: peer addresses sadly can't be 100% whitelisted (trb net aint own planet, sadly, needs to link w/ miners at the very least) but what one could do is to only share with peers ones which a) on whitelist of known trb nodes b) not in (a) but have supplied a valid block.
asciilifeform: ... the other obvious pill is to keep per-peer memory odometer and permaban hogs, but not obvious how to cleanly implement.
signpost: dpb: any chance you have something alongside quoting the bible at people to do?
signpost: personally I'd rather read vex's drunken word-salad.
signpost does not want to hear blue-haired cunts screeching about privilege, nor duck-dynasty folk waving their bad translation of the bible around.
asciilifeform admits to wondering whether dpb actually converted anyone, to date
signpost: it'd come as a surprise if anyone here wasn't christian because they'd never encountered a bible.
signpost: behold the uncontacted tribe of #a!
PeterL: thimbronion: bug report
asciilifeform: signpost: from my (admittedly inexpert) reading of dpb's materials, targed audience seems to be members of heretical (from dpb et al's pov) churches, rather than heathens
asciilifeform: *target
signpost thought audience was the fragment of himself he calls god, hoping to protect those pieces of himself from a critical eye.
signpost: this is the truly heretical thing about american protestantism, that it grants peasants the sovereign voice so they can masturbate with it.
signpost: anyway, dpb may consider that it's sad when someone can literally be replaced with a script.
signpost gonna hank hill his yard for a few hrs, bbl
asciilifeform suspects that the mechanism alluded to by signpost is an engine in all serious religions
thimbronion: ty PeterL. I have a lock around all db writes, but still getting errors that seem to imply simultaneous write attampts.
thimbronion: *attempts
asciilifeform: thimbronion: possibly it doesn't let go of the 'cursor' prior to letting go of the lock?
thimbronion: asciilifeform: as implemented the connection and cursor are reused for each call. Not clear on what letting go of the cursor would look like.
thimbronion: Could try using a new cursor for each call.
adlai is recovering from a few months without much computing
adlai: unfortunately, my main computer's hard disk has bricked itself, so my vacation was longer than expected
adlai is simply glad to have found spare copies of the SSH & GPG keys floating around!
adlai is setting up an installation to an SSD now, surprisingly enough, for the first time ever
dulapbot: Logged on 2021-12-01 13:47:46 thimbronion: Could try using a new cursor for each call.
thimbronion: punkman: ty, I'll verify.
billymg: asciilifeform: any word on when this will be ready? i'm working on some updates to the crawler's www and could use the extra horsepower

asciilifeform: billymg: waiting on crate of ram, sadly (atrocious delays in shipments)
asciilifeform burned most of day buying an ancient truck.
billymg: asciilifeform: ah, bummer. i guess sort of a trend these days though
