verisimilitude: I was considering how longterm video compression could work, recalling the storage formats are compromises. I figure encoding video frames could be most space-efficient were each pixel controlled by a dedicated computer that could encode things such as colour, but also interact with other pixels.
verisimilitude: This would also allow integrating high-level drawing primitives at the low-level of screen access. It's certainly not von Nuemann.
asciilifeform: verisimilitude: it aint that it's a bad idea, as such (imho obv. implication of 'non-vm comp') but do consider, asciilifeform for instance atm is sitting in front of ~25e6 24bit pixels.
asciilifeform: *non-vn
verisimilitude: That's only hundreds of millions of pixels. A new processor has billions in a smaller area.
verisimilitude: I think I misread that notation, actually.
verisimilitude: Yes, it's an order of magnitude fewer pixels. Even 4K would only have a few million.
asciilifeform: verisimilitude: that's 25mil ~visible~ pixels (3 x 4k lcd). i wasn't even counting the buffers.
verisimilitude: Still, if transistors be not scarce, it's a neat idea to distribute some computation.
asciilifeform: verisimilitude: i'd much like a FPGA where each LUT has a pixel output. but not expecting such a thing to be made (even if moore's law were not dead)
