whaack hmm, will investigate why node has been down / restart it
asciilifeform: whaack: probably from this
snsabot: Logged on 2020-12-29 12:17:39 asciilifeform: ACHTUNG isp folx ! 20m power outage in cage on acct of upstream fuse change 'oops'. RK users, plox to set clocks! all who report in, will be credited +1d of service.
whaack: asciilifeform: thx. So, since my node seems to never fully catch up, and the only way afaik to give it a speed boost is to restart it manually, i am thinking of writing a script to run on a cronjob to restart it once every N hours. Does this sound reasonable ?
asciilifeform: whaack: at one time i did exactly so
whaack: asciilifeform: how did you kill the bitcoin process in the script? my intuition is to grep the results of top to get bitcoind's pid and then feed that to kill -9
asciilifeform: whaack: 1st, kill, then 30s later, -9
asciilifeform: (otherwise db may rot)
whaack: asciilifeform: got it, ty. i'll post the script when i'm done

verisimilitude: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2020-12-29#1027745 Say, what are the thoughts on GPUs with regards to this, asciilifeform?
snsabot: Logged on 2020-12-29 13:25:29 asciilifeform: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2020-12-29#1027707 << the only fully general-purpose genuinely non-vonneumann arch i'm familiar with, is dataflow (explicit dependency graph) . (otoh -- single-purpose non-vonneumann comps are not uncommon. e.g. here's a battlefield-deployed one of asciilifeform's design.)
