whaack: asciilifeform: I'm interested in leasing D128_4D for a year. (Dulap w/ 128 GB RAM and 4x 1TB SSD) . I would prefer if CentOS 6.9 was installed on it. This is to be the home of my block explorer project. If you think another lease option is better for my needs plox to let me know. D128_2D is probably enough for my needs storage-wise, but I figured why not give myself a lot of wiggle room. The os
whaack: option is due to my personal familiarity.
asciilifeform: whaack: i'd love to install a d128 for you immediately, but presently sold out (not enuff electrical capacity avail.) i do have an apu3 ( see curr. price sheet ) , it is a slightly faster box than what i currently use as my colo'd trb node (apu1) . if you're interested and price is right, plz specify the ssd type you'd like used (default is samsung 1tb)
whaack: Alright I'll take a look
asciilifeform: 'apu3c4' specifically. vendor docs here.
asciilifeform: asciilifeform's trb noad at 205.134.172.27 is a classic 'apu1' (also 4G ram) w/ 1tb ssd, and performs well. (same box also runs 'watchglass'.)

whaack: alright, could I pay a little more to get a 2TB ssd?
asciilifeform: whaack: no reason why not. do you have a preferred part # / vendor link ?
asciilifeform: the box eats 'msata' (rather than 'm2') type disks.
asciilifeform: it'll take 3-7 day, however, to get the 2tb, i don't usually stock these
whaack: asciilifeform: hm and these only have 1 sata so 2x 1 TB SSD's is not an option, as I see. I was thinking just the same samsung 860 evo https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-860-evo-2-5--sata-iii-2tb-mz-76e2t0b-am/
asciilifeform: whaack: also lemme know if you want the traditional asciilifeform's-gentoo on this item, or have preferred own os. (the box does not have vga plug, so can't kvm it, but i will happily throw an iso that you sign on it, if you like)
asciilifeform: whaack: needs the msata variant, rather than classical sata
whaack: ah and the ones from samsung come capped at 1TB
asciilifeform: box however can take 2 of'em
whaack: oh alright, then yes i would just want 2 of the 1TB's
asciilifeform: ok. i will update price sheet with the exact figure and ping you later today, whaack . lemme know re desired os and any other special req's.
whaack: alright i'll think a little more about the os
asciilifeform: whaack: because this is a new type of machine, yer 1st mo. will be on the house. if satisfied, may then continue w/ subscribe.
asciilifeform would like to make sure that box 100% fits desired use, and subscribers -- satisfied.
whaack: awesome!
asciilifeform: whaack: the default os is this one . i have it on .27 and dulap, and various other irons.
asciilifeform: currently certain subscribers using it also.
asciilifeform: ( what it consists of , is illuminated also here . )
asciilifeform: this is a traditional (i.e. not musltronic) gentoo .
whaack: asciilifeform: Alright, I'm happy to use that default os.
asciilifeform: whaack: ok. i'ma get errything ready then.
whaack: tyvm

asciilifeform: whaack: catalogue has been updated. lemme know if ok w/ price, then will proceed to get yer disks.

whaack: asciilifeform: Okay for a year long lease I see the price listed as $452.91. Let me know if I set a knob wrong and that's not the price. A few other qs: There should be an extra charge for the other TB of SSD, how much will that be? What exchange/price signal is used to calculate the btc price? Do you want to lock in the exchange rate now, or in 1 month? And lastly, just fyi, I plan to play
whaack: through deedbot.
asciilifeform: whaack: plz select 'apu3 2tb' in item 1
asciilifeform: shows exact cost.
asciilifeform: whaack: the btc exch rate is proposed by subscriber, pick yer favourite heathen exch. and propose the price. (or, at your option, can do this after the 1mo demo.)
asciilifeform: and yes ok to use deedbot walletron.
asciilifeform: the js cost calculator shows the breakdown re why costs what costs.
asciilifeform: ( and note that cost does cover cost of ssd replacement, when becomes req'd. )
asciilifeform will bbl
whaack: asciilifeform: apologies, internet in my corner of ticoland disappeared for a minute, (doesn't seem so stable now either.) Okay so $640.79 is what I see now. Thanks for the full breakdown. Let's agree on an exchange rate closer to the moment of payment, I think that makes the most sense.
gregorynyssa: asciilifeform: I continue to be drawn to Intel over AMD because of their better documentation. any reason to switch to AMD? I know that Intel cooperates with Intelligence but then again, all major American tech-companies probably do.
asciilifeform: whaack: worx
asciilifeform: gregorynyssa: lol, what 'better documentation' ?! i have a shelf-sized full set o'docs for opteron + their gpu. where do i get intel's ?
asciilifeform: aside from this, as recently as 2013 amd was making cpu that could boot 100% blobless. intel, iirc, last did in '08..
asciilifeform: ... or the fact that 100% of amd cpu in past 15y support ecc. whereas intel artifically cripples it outta all but 'xeon'
asciilifeform: ... or that plenty of amd boxen support debug probe that runs on any linux whereas intel...
asciilifeform: could go on.
