gregorynyssa: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2020-07-09#1016095 << sorry, I see what you mean now. you are talking about the motherboards. after 2008/2013 it is impossible to flush out their proprietary bios and replace it with Coreboot. am I understanding correctly?
snsabot: Logged on 2020-07-09 23:19:01 asciilifeform: aside from this, as recently as 2013 amd was making cpu that could boot 100% blobless. intel, iirc, last did in '08..
asciilifeform: gregorynyssa: correct. and similar problem w/ post-2013 amd products (tho must note, the net mass of vendor liquishit they require to boot, is substantially smaller vs intel's)

asciilifeform: whaack: i set out to assemble your new box, and discovered that samsung has apparently ceased production of msata drives. with your permission , i'll install a conventional-sata 2tb samsung unit. lemme know.
asciilifeform: (cost will be same as prev. variant.)
whaack: asciilifeform: that works, but I thought you said that the apu3c4 couldn't take classical sata?
asciilifeform: whaack: it can, but will need to modify the case. however will do this free of charge (it is of essence that replacement disks can be obtained, and msata apparently is being phased out by manufacturers.)
whaack: asciilifeform: alright, tyvm again
asciilifeform: whaack: your disk has been ordered, i expect will appear on monday.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo et al ^
asciilifeform: any subscriber impacted palpably, plox to put message here in next 24h, will get phree day of service added to subscription. (i'ma no longer do this by default, would like to give folx an incentive to read logs, and not simply sleep through..)
asciilifeform: i.e. b/w now and 1839 nyc time 11 jul 2020.
dpb: asciilifeform, i noticed the outage; happened while i was composing article; fortunately nothing was lost
asciilifeform: dpb: ty, noted
asciilifeform would get the 2nd fallback pipe offered, but atm prefers to keep up the current price instead. will listen to feedback from subscribers on the subj, however.
asciilifeform: ftr n-th pipes have another drawback, other than price -- they require the use of 'heavy' routing gear, which invariably means cisco/juniper. which ugh.
asciilifeform would much sooner like to get the rack/bw expansion -- lower prices for errything/erryone, then, and would have capacity to offer 'dulaps' again etc
snsabot: Logged on 2020-07-09 13:38:01 asciilifeform: whaack: i'd love to install a d128 for you immediately, but presently sold out (not enuff electrical capacity avail.) i do have an apu3 ( see curr. price sheet ) , it is a slightly faster box than what i currently use as my colo'd trb node (apu1) . if you're interested and price is right, plz specify the ssd type you'd like used (default is samsung 1tb)
asciilifeform: ... and 10x the bw.
