spyked: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2020-05-16#1012431 <-- http://lucian.mogosanu.ro/src/botworks/ and various thetarpit articles, e.g. http://thetarpit.org/2019/feedbot-i ; I have some ideas how to implement that per-feed delay, drop by in #spyked if you wanna discuss
snsabot: Logged on 2020-05-16 15:16:16 verisimilitude: Say, spyked, where's the source code for feedbot; if it's wanted, I'll hazard a look and perhaps add this waiting code myself.

verisimilitude: I'd rather not join a different channel for just a few messages. After a light review, I'd simply add an additional field to these FEED lists, perhaps named :TIMEOUT, and the checking mechanism would decrement these, actually acting on and resetting them when zero is reached; this is thus a basic waiting mechanism in terms of *CHECK-FREQ*; I've not yet determined which function should contain this, however.
spyked was just thinking he'd rather not pollute asciilifeform's channel with feedbot discussion, is all
spyked: verisimilitude, I'm not convinced it's just a few messages. what you want can't be achieved just by adding the additional field; checking, as it currently stands, is serialized, and you'd need to program some timers in order to have timeouts be done independently. also, I'd like to keep *check-freq* as a default knob, for feeds that are missing the :timeout.
spyked: and then there's the question of what thread is doing the checking... you don't want one of the main threads to wait for the checker, because it's a potentially timewasting operation (blogs go down from time to time or the feed may contain garbage)
asciilifeform: spyked: it's 100% on-topic, i use irc bots , and thrd re subj is entirely practical & relevant here .
asciilifeform: so don't hesitate to discuss the lisp bot etc.
snsabot: Logged on 2020-05-18 22:29:21 osmarTN: I wanted to say that I liked your article about the downsides of VPN usage.
asciilifeform: spyked et al : fwiw i'd quite like to eventually get rid of my py warcrime bots & replace w/ something that's actually pleasant to work with. ( simply had not time to make any such thing w/ own hands )
