(trilema) diana_coman: so, changed those 2 lines to pkey.n = mpi_copy(skey->n) and pkey.e = mpi_copy(skey->e) ; correct?
(trilema) diana_coman: no, it's not
(trilema) diana_coman: with a proper copy
(trilema) diana_coman: hm, I looked at it and it did not; but let's check
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, possibly I managed to screw it up in an even more basic way; here's the test function itself (this one gets called repeatedly for each key and each message)
(trilema) diana_coman: yes, I know
(trilema) diana_coman: encrypted being out1
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, they are not; moreover the log shows clearly that encrypted stuff is different basically
(trilema) diana_coman: mod6, I couldn't find some that are directly comparable aka only the rsa ops as such
(trilema) diana_coman: hm, I'd be surprised if it gets wildly different results but that would be in itself something...interesting I guess
(trilema) diana_coman: uhm; what do you suggest I use?
(trilema) diana_coman: from the post: Durations are given as CPU time in seconds, as reported by the clock() function (time.h) and calculated as ( (double) (end – start) ) / CLOCKS_PER_SEC where end is the value returned by clock() right before starting the RSA operation and end() is the value returned by clock() right after returning from the RSA operation
(trilema) diana_coman: cpu clock ticks supposedly
(trilema) diana_coman: c function from time.h
(trilema) diana_coman: lemme just cut the fluff and then will post
(trilema) diana_coman: the private thing basically holds anything anyway
(trilema) diana_coman: ah, yes, that's just because the public key is a local var filled with the stuff from private
(trilema) diana_coman: yes, msg is original data; out1 is encrypted; out2 is decrypted
(trilema) diana_coman: honestly, it's prolly faster to go through it again and then post it all and then take it from there
(trilema) diana_coman: I even have those in a file too (i.e. each run, data, encrypted, decrypted
(trilema) diana_coman: yes but after recording the time
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu,I know it to be uber-fast in water; dunno on land; either way, never saw one in its habitat
(trilema) diana_coman: BingoBoingo, interesting; do alligators survive that though?
(trilema) diana_coman idly wonders if any huge snakes swallow crocodiles
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, this is literally the bit counting : http://wotpaste.cascadianhacker.com/pastes/7G7XM/?raw=true
(trilema) diana_coman: well yes, basically at rsa stage all I had to change was at generating keys aka source of random bits; the rest was just identifying the relevant parts and nothing more
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, this is the ugly rsa.c used fwiw http://wotpaste.cascadianhacker.com/pastes/W42GS/?raw=true
(trilema) diana_coman: hm, public rsa uses mpi_powm; secret rsa uses crc; still though 100 fold
(trilema) diana_coman: will see if I screwed it up entirely or what
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, yes, it does; hence my going "I have to comb this all way through again"
(trilema) diana_coman: <asciilifeform> >> http://wotpaste.cascadianhacker.com/pastes/DrA3R/?raw=true << for n00bs : rsa-cum-crt , as seen in koch's gpg-1.4.10 <- aha, that's what I use, yes; anyways, will comb the thing again a bit later today and then get back with something concrete
(trilema) diana_coman: makes sense to post the code too though it'll end up in that annoying cycle of versioning since it's far from any final state
(trilema) diana_coman: hmm, I'll check again all the way; at a first look it is as stated but will look and get back on this
(trilema) diana_coman: I gotta run now for a few hours but I'll be back later if there are any obs/comments on it
(trilema) diana_coman: :) thanks asciilifeform ; and once again a big thank you for carving out that mpi part - it helped a LOT
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, not in china :|
(trilema) diana_coman: I keep reading that as necromancer, lol
(trilema) diana_coman has helped own folks at reworks; not afraid of it, but not terribly fond of it either
(trilema) diana_coman: "massive reworks" meant in my head dig foundations and from there up; not that it can't be done with own hands, I know
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform> and you generally can't make massive reworks <- this yes, though I'd be surprised you wouldn't be able to agree with landlord; more like you'll go nuts trying to get what you want from builders, but that's a different story
(trilema) diana_coman: yeah, but ...ro is not usa
(trilema) diana_coman: eh, get serious
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, my point was that you will still be paying "rent" basically; and for 1k in Ro you do get a huge house
(trilema) diana_coman: eh, so "correction coefficient"
(trilema) diana_coman: it changed in 2016 iirc; anyways,it's not 100% straightforward (nothing is like that in Ro in my opinion) but to cite:
(trilema) diana_coman: you mean you pay a tax calculated based on the value of each of your "owned" properties?
(trilema) diana_coman: ugh, you do know that there is a "property tax" in Romania, right?
(trilema) diana_coman: anyways, why not rent? don't know about Timis precisely, but I'd be surprised if it were terribly expensive or anything
(trilema) diana_coman: i.e. you can own it but via company; or you can own flat/not land
(trilema) diana_coman: I guess it might be more of a trouble if there still is that thing with "can't own land" if foreigner, dunno if even still true
(trilema) diana_coman: anyways, we were talking "something to show as to have where to live" so a few thousands, not exactly suitcase of anything
(trilema) diana_coman: again, maybe things have changed in the last years, I haven't really looked at it
(trilema) diana_coman: go with a lawyer, I'd say
(trilema) diana_coman: anyway you need public notary for the official papers
(trilema) diana_coman: you can make pre-contract, pay advance etc
(trilema) diana_coman: go to public notary, what
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, what can I say, people do it; guess romania is not as dangerous as it seems or something
(trilema) diana_coman: the story is even somewhere on the RO blog but focused on the total idiocy so not of much interest for your trouble directly
(trilema) diana_coman: things might have changed but ~6 years ago when I tried (got fed up with the seller being an idiot but that's another story) they were positively NOT wanting a bank anyways; it was some 26k flat ftr
(trilema) diana_coman: ahahaha; logically it should be, yeah; but re "where to live" - you can buy a house in some village for a few thousands max, not exactly need bank either so dunno that being a huge trouble in itself; then again, each with their own problems to solve
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, not really; former requires someone to go with you and say you can live in their house/flat etc
(trilema) diana_coman: it's not unusual in ro as far as I know
(trilema) diana_coman: uhm, meet people and buy cash?
(trilema) diana_coman: live happily without one (indeed happier than with one, arguably)
(trilema) diana_coman: not sure though why would you actually *need* a bank account in ro
(trilema) diana_coman: sounds very much like it, indeed
(trilema) diana_coman: if you start a business there -does it also get usg-taxed?
(trilema) diana_coman: ah, ah; so basically they even beg you to ...stop using banks?
(trilema) diana_coman: o.O you mean they won't open a bank account for you?
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, well, the way I see it it anyway makes more sense to simply move where you want to be
(trilema) diana_coman: mod6, that sounds good
(trilema) diana_coman: anyone knows a leemon baird and his hashgraph thing? it seems to be based on gossip so perhaps something interesting in there although I have to say that a first read was more like reading propaganda
(trilema) diana_coman: and otherwise tending serpents and keccaks - still working on figuring those out properly
(trilema) diana_coman: how's it going for you?
(trilema) diana_coman: chugging along, collecting some data on the mpi-sane-based rsa stuff
(trilema) diana_coman: morning mod6
(trilema) diana_coman: I'm sure it's not even the only citizenship for sale for that matter
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, iirc cyprus was selling citizenship and discounting it even; don't quite recall what was the last price though
(trilema) diana_coman: capital was moved to Bucharest precisely because it was in the middle of the plains and easily accessible /plundered + not far on horseback from across Danube; so escape routes & hiding places make sense
(trilema) diana_coman: ah, yes, several rounds of catacombs as it were; the oldest should be indeed in the "old centre"-cismigiu park - mitropolie area but then others leading further out as well; not very much is made public on them though
(trilema) diana_coman: iirc the "old centre" has been renovated during past few years and it looked ok, but it's relatively small; many of the relics of former glory have either been demolished long time ago or otherwise are left to crumble
(trilema) diana_coman: I have yet to see in any other Romanian town the sort of squalor I saw in Bucharest
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, Bucharest is on its own; first of all for size, but not only that
(trilema) diana_coman: for as long as there was a person who did precisely that
(trilema) diana_coman: onth there were pockets of "I'll hold onto whatever good engineers I get" a la IAR ghimbav
(trilema) diana_coman: obv, unless pcr to move to town in max 2 years or something
(trilema) diana_coman: well, as far as I know from older people it was mainly either permanent rural shithole or otherwise shitty temporary mini-jobs in some town
(trilema) diana_coman: or Iasi or Constanta even
(trilema) diana_coman: I don't really know of someone from Bucharest who wanted Cluj either
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, locals wanted local, what
(trilema) diana_coman: in any case and fwiw since I happen to know this tidbit, gospodin Medvedev did open (and I don't mean cutting the red tape sort of open but rather pouring the money & bringing in people from abroad sort of open) tam-tam big uni and all that in Tatarstan some years ago already rather than next to Moscow and I seriously doubt it was *not* part of a wider-range development plan
(trilema) diana_coman: I don't know enough on RU to say much at that level really so...
(trilema) diana_coman: uhm, *whose* darlings again
(trilema) diana_coman: so then, official statistics in ro are worse than non-existant, what
(trilema) diana_coman: well, remember I had to scrap the bac data and then the ministry statisticians were getting it on the sly from my blog?
(trilema) diana_coman: because I looked and ...wtf!
(trilema) diana_coman: myeah, why I did not cite numbers
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, eh now; by the same token as the maps: population+growth in population
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, typical idiot *runs* like crazy away from here even if he somehow stumbles in for a second (he'll try hard not to though as it's cheaper on his own self-esteem and whatnot)
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu Bucharest is also some 6 times if not more the size of next town in ro, isn't it? not sure if that says much though in itself
(trilema) diana_coman: whether he hugs or stabs when drunk is a matter of what ails him; but whether he can do it whatever it is , is the point
(trilema) diana_coman: both, either, lol
(trilema) diana_coman: he can't probably stab you either for that matter
(trilema) diana_coman: basically the northerner can't hug you if he feels like it unless drunk
(trilema) diana_coman: again, pacified or violent has nothing to do with it!
(trilema) diana_coman: it's about decoupling rational more though this is already nonsense put as such
(trilema) diana_coman: it's not about losing it
(trilema) diana_coman: eh, no
(trilema) diana_coman: they can without drink
(trilema) diana_coman: no, latin america southerners
(trilema) diana_coman: uhm?
(trilema) diana_coman: theoretically emotional crutch, but not sure what exactly
(trilema) diana_coman: maybe; the other part of it (which I don't know if it's just my sample bias or what) is that in the north drink is a sort of crutch: southerners I know can act crazy without drinking ; northerners...can't ; so when want-to-crazy-need-to-drink
(trilema) diana_coman: lol!
(trilema) diana_coman: and well, they don't know how to drink either - no surprise since no practice with sane people
(trilema) diana_coman: but then on Friday they drink anything and everything and FAST
(trilema) diana_coman: so they don't drink AT ALL during the week
(trilema) diana_coman: as I said: lack of balance overall really
(trilema) diana_coman: when he was too little to talk I would just say he's fine, thank you or shrug mainly; now I can let him reply and usually he innocently floors them anyway so win
(trilema) diana_coman: eh, that was still everywhere; and yeah, I even got approached when with child: he's too cold! he's too hot! why is he /isn't he...
(trilema) diana_coman: but in any case: I've never seen barfing in the street until I got to the west
(trilema) diana_coman: not encouraged in public I'd say, as such; fwiw I did not actually drink almost at all while I was in Ro ; possibly because I saw those, who knows
(trilema) diana_coman: as I said: they were gathering at one's home, women only and...drink
(trilema) diana_coman: baragan
(trilema) diana_coman: or rachiu rather as tuica gone
(trilema) diana_coman: pshew; tuica, what else
(trilema) diana_coman: possibly same time, just ..separate places; if at same place then they would rather be sober yeah
(trilema) diana_coman: when males away/snoring/whatever; I should have said not same place+time I guess
(trilema) diana_coman: sure, they weren't getting drunk at *same time* as males basically
(trilema) diana_coman: that's all
(trilema) diana_coman: just that women were usually (as they were at most times anyway) drunk *indoors*
(trilema) diana_coman: uhm, I've seen rural all-sexes drunk unable to walk
(trilema) diana_coman: can say same just that blind drunk whatever-sex; the striking part was more how-and-where drunk than sex of idiots
(trilema) diana_coman: I don't see it
(trilema) diana_coman: and at the end of the day more of a measure of balance overall even
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, what would be the link? my obs is that it's more whether drink is something that goes with meal and at any time or just something "special" aka binge idiocy
(trilema) diana_coman: as scope iirc fain was restricted to blogs in Romanian, might be worth adding
(trilema) diana_coman: well, approximations can make or kill a thing, but otherwise I guess you can call it that then (though by this token I'm not sure one won't be able to approximate almost any online thing to "a reddit")
(trilema) diana_coman: hm; and does the system rate people/accounts basically? I think that was a crucial part of it like anywhere: if one is useful then one can do as much and what they like; if not, then ...no
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, I'm not very knowledgeable on reddit but I thought it was something where people asked questions and then their comments were voted up/down ?
(trilema) diana_coman: I guess the "mechanised" part about Fain could be the automated grading of *people* based on their activity aka the "karma" points that had quite direct implications re what one could do (even whether they could comment at all)
(trilema) diana_coman: re barfing in the streets tbh that's in my books a very much western/northern thing
(trilema) diana_coman: and talk around them, sure
(trilema) diana_coman: people proposed blog posts they considered worthy (whatever measure they used for it) with link+short description; people could vote on previously proposed links
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, I wouldn't say Fain was mechanised really, can't quite see how that would fit
(trilema) diana_coman: I'm quite sure it would be rather easy to get the main old timers back in there to start with too; not that the problem really; good linguistic project too :D
(trilema) diana_coman: oh hey, that's an idea; asciilifeform ^^
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, ahaha, judging by activity there might be...lotus next!
(trilema) diana_coman: hey, congrats alex__c
(trilema) diana_coman: alex__c, try !!up yourself to deedbot

(trilema) diana_coman: plenty; what I was trying to figure out was why do those specific things seem so extraordinary to you as they are not (yet perhaps) extraordinary around Europe I'd say
(trilema) diana_coman: eh, so hungary, poland, what
(trilema) diana_coman: fwiw raw milk can be had even in the uk and no, it's not terribly expensive/commando mission sort of thing; still, I wouldn't list that as some proof of sanity or anything
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, if you don't mind me asking: where else in Europe have you been for longer than few days?
(trilema) diana_coman: well, it's also urbanism; great-grandmother would have said drum if not ulita
(trilema) diana_coman: there is also ulicioara though :D
(trilema) diana_coman: not just "ulita" either
(trilema) diana_coman: no, ulita MARE
(trilema) diana_coman: exactly
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, that's the thing: it IS correct, but ...not the same thing!
(trilema) diana_coman: hm, maybe
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, you mean they imported it from old church books or what?
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, lol
(trilema) diana_coman: I had a few colleagues at uni bucharest; re language my observation was that they mixed ro and ru (not words per se but rather languages as a whole) to such degree that result was at worst not-understandable, at best hysterical indeed; sort of saying "ulita" (because of Russian "ulita" obv) to huge boulevard comes to mind but it's not the only thing
(trilema) diana_coman heard they were very, very talented... acrobats! even had huge circus built in USSR times because of that; dunno if that's enough though...
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, that would have made her master seller or something; bird-pedo with an "injured idiot" fetish?
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, nici nu, nu, clar nu
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, lol! fwiw I kind of trashed "puiul" to start with: stated that mother-bird was idiot as she should have either taken chick on her back or otherwise leave earlier ffs
(trilema) diana_coman: ahahah, soacra cu trei nurori
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, 6th or so
(trilema) diana_coman: ha, asciilifeform apparently from vinyls so quality as it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs-VOU_jP-8&index=8&list=PLhFkMMCbqsCMq38PC3lGv11vmULgkUfH9
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, tinerete fara batranete si viata fara de moarte
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu,lol! tudorel indeed
(trilema) diana_coman: aha; authors include mihai jemaneanu, octav pancu-iasi, vladimir colin, vasile manuceanu, tudor arghezi, emil garleanu, stefanescu delavrancea, ion creanga, veronica micle, george cosbuc
(trilema) diana_coman: this batch of cds I have here are bought in 2015, casa radio again; recordings from 1961-1971, readers Silvia Chicos, Octavian Cotescu, Dumitru Furdui, Dinu Ianculescu, Elena Pop, Turodel Popa
(trilema) diana_coman: so it might be more copying the title
(trilema) diana_coman: they are though stories by ro authors, including cosbuc, creanga, delavrancea
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, I guess so
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, yes!
(trilema) diana_coman: they are again recordings from 1961-1971
(trilema) diana_coman: hmmm, asciilifeform I bought for my kid a set of cds, again radio romania old transmissions, "noapte buna, copii" ; tbh though those are 5-10 minutes sort of things and at times (now) I find them a tad annoying
(trilema) diana_coman: mircea_popescu, heh, the old vinyls from my childhood are still in a certain attic in ploiesti...
(trilema) diana_coman: ahahaha,lordul john!
(trilema) diana_coman: hm, asciilifeform maybe editura casa radio, "fonoteca de aur" such as http://www.edituracasaradio.ro/prod.htm?grp=3&cat=18&prod=925
(trilema) diana_coman: actually since you are in Ro, you can look at bookshops for cds/dvds on the topic ; iirc there were quite a few at some point
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, maybe search for "fonoteca" from some radio at least if not otherwise?
(trilema) diana_coman: I'd subscribe to that, yes; I don't claim I'm an expert though
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, eh, no; and fwiw esp re children's books, Russian illustrators were tops
(trilema) diana_coman: if you are very curious you might also want to check the publisher: iirc many are in fact published in Chisinau (Moldova) and sold in Ro because cheap compared to local; iirc I saw quite a few books following this route and reflecting it, as it were
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, neah, next you'll be surprised to see nosov's books or what?
(trilema) diana_coman: lol; those rubbish bins looked very...Romanian but the "no islam" thing didn't quite fit, hence Hungary seemed more likely
(trilema) diana_coman: what, he went to Romania 2nd time and it's waaay better than first?
(trilema) diana_coman: Hungary??
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, hm, mainly because basically socialist
(trilema) diana_coman: phf, ahh, bidet, right; tbh that made me instantly think of Italy and it would fit womenz (if south) but I kind of crossed out EU to start with
(trilema) diana_coman is highly suspicious of everything fine
(trilema) diana_coman: hm, so ..what's *wrong* with it?
(trilema) diana_coman: India?
(trilema) diana_coman adds note to her asciilifeform-glossary
(trilema) diana_coman: if there were any cats mentioned I'd have guessed Turkey!
(trilema) diana_coman: to recap clues as I see them: orcistan -> poor/undeveloped country; roofless palaces -> warm(ish); abandoned trainstations -> former colony/it was once something; good food + "you'll love Odessa" -> southern style; not enough language-fu -> !USSR; asciilifeform has "things that need to be done there" -> ????? basically this last one is a killer;
(trilema) diana_coman: !!v 70E0D6D289568E9DA00A34BDB09376F67BECE9A0CCE40F0E82EEF02F1234F5C2
(trilema) diana_coman: o.O lobbes sorry about that; I read "total" indeed; do say it on the spot though!
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, I might be wrong on this but my current understanding is that it's my machine that has the *older* rather than the "required" newer driver
(trilema) diana_coman: "the pl2303x can be distinguished from a pl2303 by checking bMaxPacketSize0 for device using lsusb -v -d 067b:2303; if bmaxpacketsize0 is 64 you probably have pl2303x"
(trilema) diana_coman: but detected as pl2303,hence barfs
(trilema) diana_coman: gah, pl* not ps
(trilema) diana_coman: and so this one seems to be pl2303x
(trilema) diana_coman: apparently there are 2 adapters namely ps2303 and ps2303x; incompatible; same vendor id and product id though
(trilema) diana_coman: apparently uncompatible though very similar and reported same ofc etc
(trilema) diana_coman: on the possibly enraging more digging turned out a known shit -difference between pl2303 and pl2303x
(trilema) diana_coman: on the sad part it seems suitable cable not in house atm so it'll have to wait until tomorrow
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, yes; I was trying to get that through but I'm possibly too tired for it: using screen results in constant stream of data
(trilema) diana_coman: hm, should have somewhere; will dig and try I guess
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, yes, fine; trouble is it's centos where the thing is not working
(trilema) diana_coman: yes, canonical hence why I'm trying to get to the bottom of this
(trilema) diana_coman: that is an ubuntu os
(trilema) diana_coman: I switched this whole board to yet another machine , with its cable too; there it works
(trilema) diana_coman: but it shows...something at least; why does the other one not show anything?
(trilema) diana_coman: 2. on same cable, screen reads ...
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, 1. I tried already 3 other cables; unlikely all three borked
(trilema) diana_coman: did a stty -F /dev/ttyUSB0 -a on a working machine and on this machine, flags are same except for hupcl vs -hupcl on centos and onlcr vs -onlcr on centos; and a -cdtrdsr on centos, not mentioned on the other
(trilema) diana_coman: well, working, no noise
(trilema) diana_coman: green lamp steady on, red lamp flickering just like in *another* fg that is currently purring away nicely at another machine
(trilema) diana_coman: one in x runs of dd will even actually copy something
(trilema) diana_coman: usually hangs
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, I'm not yet even there basically; dd simply hangs
(trilema) diana_coman: screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200 reads nicely
(trilema) diana_coman: hence, more a matter of what does screen do differently
(trilema) diana_coman: asciilifeform, screen works on *same machine*
(trilema) diana_coman: eh, raw actually includes -ixoff and -ixany so no wonder that did not do much
(trilema) diana_coman: guess I'll go through the full list and at least see if there is anything that might help
(trilema) diana_coman: no, still hanging, ugh
(trilema) diana_coman: hmm, maybe ixany too, lemme see
(trilema) diana_coman: shinohai, that seems to be a bit closer but not yet solved: added -ixoff and next run of dd went fine but then it was stuck again; turned on and off again and it was still just hanging so simply reset on that was not enough either; something is weird there
