jurov: i once read somewhere abou soviet culturai influence on east germany and they wrote "even some people had slavic facial features"
jurov: that sis not dawn on me immediately :D
cazalla: jurov, have you not seen putin's thumbs up for titties?
adlai: it's kinda the opposite of obama's
adlai: frown vs smile, brows furrowed vs up, dearth of melanin vs its complete absence

[Namworld]: If facebook likes are from bot... the bot accounts are pretty impressively well made. Photos of same person over years, often multiple years of Facebook usage, conversations that somewhat make sense when translated, although not sure if it's issues of translation or just gibberish. Just doesn't look like gibberish.
[Namworld]: For some reason, they just like tons of random pages. If I had to guess, hacked accounts/people not bothering to remove liked pages.
[Namworld]: I read something about some FB users just liking tons of stuff like they collect likes and using FB in odd ways.
[Namworld]: Yes, well it's started. For some reason, it seems slow to work on getting website clicks. It gets you clicks faster for fanpage like button.
[Namworld]: I'll try raising the bid a bit I guess.
[Namworld]: Facebook ads shows 50 clicks. So instant bounce/no wait for loading. How many of those 21 bounced?
[Namworld]: Yet when it's clicks for fanpage, they result in a fan, and randomly selecting fans gives you a realistic profile.
[Namworld]: So hacked accounts or copied info/posts from account with privacy settings set to public.
adlai: facebook would probably catch onto copied accounts quite fast, they run facial recognition on every photo
[Namworld]: Either way there seems to be rampant networks of click-happy bots ramping up costs. At least on low bids/global audience.
adlai: they use it to suggest tags
[Namworld]: Hmm, I guess there's other smaller social networks, especially in non-english countries. I guess facebook botnets could crawl and use info from profiles elsewhere.
[Namworld]: Because the photos on those suspicious accounts have pictures of same person posted over and over. Yet they don't act like humans. Especially when you start tracking them once on your website.
[Namworld]: Photos must be coming from somewhere. So hacked accounts very plausible I guess.
[Namworld]: Easier than copying from elsewhere. I doubt it's hard to come up with a lot of FB credentials on black market/from a botnet.
mircea_popescu: [Namworld] pretty much all. but it'd show in the log for merely asking for the page, anyway
mircea_popescu: [Namworld] anyway, let me know when it's finished and i'll do a sumup
[Namworld]: Aye, should have at least 500 clicks once it's done. At least FB side. Apparently most don't even get to have a request sent to the actual website.
[Namworld]: Since ads are not direct link but a FB link that tracks and redirect, I guess bots just click and never request the page they're asked to redirect to.
cazalla: if anyone remembers .au police taking a bitcoin atm.. cops have revealed the inventory from the bust, no info on actual bitcoin amount so nothing newsworth but this paragraph is lulzy "The cash haul was more than $313,000, with property seized including vehicles, mobile phones, computers and a rare Bitcoin ATM."
hanbot: "police stole everything!"
adlai: crowdsource stats, collect a bounty to distribute among all entities providing valid signatures for transactions during black friday. pay the consumers for their data!
adlai: or just sum all the transactions during that day to get an upper bound, and assume that bitpay account for X%
mike_c: silly bots. thx bingo.
mike_c: this is the problem with relying on robots to serve our needs.
mike_c: #b-a -> {assbot, gribble}
cazalla: adlai, the stats are not really point of article, more so to point out stupidity of this bitcoin black friday scheme
mike_c: cazalla: I would like to write an article for qntra with graphs in it. how should I go about this?
adlai: stats, whether an official press release or some guess based on data, are needed for bet resolution
cazalla: mike_c, can you use images for the graphs or is it code
mike_c: images. but embedded in the right spot. and ideally presenting you with the least amount of work necessary.
mike_c: like, maybe I should just have a WP account.
mike_c: and I can write it myself. and then you review and publish.
cazalla: mike_c, technically you already have an account, i create them for authors and use for publishing their articles, i can change so that you can log in and post a draft
mike_c: and upload images to put in the draft?
mike_c: works for me. I pinky-swear not to break anything.
cazalla: i do that via ftp, wordpress won't let me upload images, i think one of the dir permissions are off or something
mike_c: that's not a bad thing. but makes it harder for authors.
cazalla: you can email the images, i'll upload and then send you the URLs
mike_c: that's fine with me, but you might want to think about how to get yourself more out of the workflow. makes scaling and doing this long-term easier.
mike_c: no no, we don't need more robots involved.
mike_c: unreliable suns of bitches
cazalla: mike_c, it's not really that much work atm anyway and what else am i going to do but play pokemon all day during slow periods
ben_vulpes: but what about making money while you sleep, cazalla!?
mike_c: hehe, i was thinking more about getting ready for the not-slow periods :) but this is fine with me.
cazalla: ben_vulpes, i learned this lesson a few years back already
mike_c: also, now that I have access, you just gave me access without checking if i'm authenticated :) and I'm actually the reddit police! (j/k)

nanotube: looks like someone is trying to eat up some cpu by hammering the web server
BingoBoingo: ben_vulpes: It's a game. The story is in the teams not the sponsors. No one remembers the sponsors of the bowl games.
BingoBoingo: It's the Bitcoin bowl. There was an obligation to bring attention to how completely mediocre the competitors are.
mircea_popescu: [Namworld] i guess if they're only interested to see where the ads lead, they wouldn't follow the redirect. trivial curl thing.
mircea_popescu: adlai the exchange-reported tx for that day are small, and the books didn't even hold enough.
mircea_popescu: <mike_c> like, maybe I should just have a WP account. << i can see this.
mircea_popescu: can prolly set to you know, save draft only. then editor can publish.
