PeterL[asciilifeform|cgra]: billymg: as far as I can tell, the pronoun thing has all been cis people. It seems silly with a familiar name like "Karen (she/her)", but it is sometimes mildly helpful for foreign names, like "Xiaofei (he/him)" or whatever
PeterL[asciilifeform|cgra]: There have been a couple times I have interacted with someone for a while through email, and then the first time I talk to them on the phone I say in my head "Ohhh, Chau is a girl!"
PeterL[asciilifeform|cgra]: I don't know if this is the same everwhere, but at my kids high school it seems like more than half of the kids are "trans", "non-binary", or "asexual", and half of the others are some flavor of gay/bi
PeterL[asciilifeform|cgra]: like, they have a set of friends that are "trans boy" and "trans girl" that are dating, isn't that just a straight couple? Or the two "trans boys" who are dating, why isn't that just a pair of butch lesbians?

PeterL[cgra|asciilifeform]: "cis" is "not trans", kind of like in chemistry we have cis and trans double bonds, I guess it is whether your identification is on the same or opposite gender compared to your biological gender (don't ask me why that is a thing, it doesn't make sense to me either)
PeterL[cgra|asciilifeform]: the pink-haired types think people like me (you know, cis white males) are the actual devil, since we are the ones benefitting from the patriarchy that is opressing all the minorities (like women, or "people of color")
billymg[cgra|asciilifeform]: PeterL: right, like i said, cis is the label for the thing that doesn't need a label
billymg[cgra|asciilifeform]: these people use language as a weapon
billymg[asciilifeform|cgra]: http://logs.bitdash.io/pest/2023-03-10#1024435 << this to me does not seem like a problem that needs solving, and i don't buy that that's why people started adding (he/him) to their handles/sigs. it's purely political, like spelling it kyiv instead of kiev

awt[cgra]: billymg: When I click this link, it just loads logs.bitdash.io: http://logs.bitdash.io/ilog/asciilifeform/1114714
billymg[asciilifeform|cgra]: awt: yeah, i need to fix that. it's because around the beginning of this year i stopped running bitbot in #a
awt[asciilifeform|cgra]: billymg: ah ok
billymg[cgra|asciilifeform]: i should maybe just do a nightly import script and eat from logs.nosuchlabs.com/log-raw
billymg[asciilifeform]: the reason i haven't backfilled yet is because our loggers fell out of sync last november where dulapbot missed some lines that bitbot captured
bitbot[cgra|asciilifeform]: Logged on 2022-11-29 12:18:27 billymg: asciilifeform: interesting, when i tried to import the missing lines from your logger's raw endpoint i got a complaint about duplicate lines. then i noticed our indices were out of sync, but with bitdash being ahead rather than behind. walking back manually led me to http://logs.bitda
billymg[cgra|asciilifeform]: but i could just delete these 11 lines from vex and import the rest from logs.nosuchlabs.com
awt[asciilifeform|cgra]: I believe with SVB you had to be an accredited investor to evn open an account.
asciilifeform: awt: asciilifeform saw the phrase for many yrs, finally looked it up, discovered to great lulz that he (and damn near most steadily employed 'mahogany bomber pilots') in fact are 'accredited investors'(tm)

PeterL[asciilifeform]: recently there have been a bunch of tech firms laying off staff, is this just the next of the dominos to start falling?
awt[cgra|asciilifeform]: PeterL: I don't know how much the US economy depends on tech employment. Always blamed for higher rents but then when there are tech layoffs it's always "oh that's just a tiny part of the economy"
signpost[cgra|asciilifeform]: the feedback loop is layoffs kill spending, kills revenue, causes layoffs...
signpost[cgra|asciilifeform]: and alongside this businesses relying on cheap financing imploding

signpost[asciilifeform|cgra]: because there's not more earth, only way to become wealthier is to absorb more of the limited pie
