cgra: is it already time to consider how online codes doable in integer/(lean-ada/fpga)-friendly math? plenty of floats atm
cgra: i suppose, if going to eventually lock into constant oc parameters, 'un-floating' not difficult (nfi about fpga...). may as well do it now, on numpy/scipy rng-isms replacement? but could keep max_check_block_degree (F) calculation as is, until parameters chosen
cgra: afaict, ocpy's xorshift here, and maybe here.
cgra: and afaict, ocpy-relevant numpy Generator's choice() and integers() here, but an apparent pointless puzzle, as phf suggested.
asciilifeform: cgra: 'unfloating' imho a+++ idea
asciilifeform will note tho that he did not have notion of stuffing lubyism decoder per se into fpga; rather, to use the latter as a pass-through packet filter, with regular comp receiving valid packets strictly

phf: the second one is "jump" it lets you rotate the state equivalent to 2**512 individual generations. it is somehow used in parallel code…
cgra: phf, right. couldn't immediately tell whether this 'jump' would end up being useful or not

asciilifeform: de gustibus non est disputandum (tm) tho.
billymg[cgra]: asciilifeform: don't need bananistan, plenty of rural parts of the US where you could do this

billymg[cgra]: can take trips, but some limit on how long you can be away from the us

asciilifeform: idea was moar of a 'l1-powered distributed backup disk' than 'they watch' but yes
signpost[cgra]: sure, that's useful too.

phf: this was not a complete waste of time, because involved porting c xorshift1024 to lisp and have it work correctly
signpost[cgra]: ah that's pretty cool.
signpost[cgra]: curious to see if your impl trounces mine in performance (which I hope!)
signpost[cgra]: should be very parallel friendly without python's limitations.
phf: which brought up an issue i've encountered before and never had a satisfying solution: there's no way to restrict lisp bit operations to produce direct rewrite of c code, without relying on non-portable hacks
phf: a non-portable solution (in sbcl/cmucl) is to crank up speed 3 safety 0, type annotate everything and then lisp will generate equivalent code that truncates values to specified types
phf: e.g. xorsfhit1024 becomes http://paste.deedbot.org/?id=UZma, and it still generates garbage on that last multiply (it bignums and then truncates, i can't figure out how to make it use a int64bit version of *)
phf: http://logs.bitdash.io/pest/2023-02-02#1022064 << i'm kind of hoping it'll outperform python single threaded, but seeing as how you use numpy all over the place maybe that won't be the case…
