asciilifeform: in other finds: finally turned up example of direct socket x11ism (other than the monstrously bloated clx)
asciilifeform: $ticker btc usd
busybot: Current BTC price in USD: $16144.52
asciilifeform: ^ the x11 example btw segfaults in 'x11_generate_id'; may have erroneous headers (or outdated?)
asciilifeform: ^ phf et al (supposing anyone interested in subj)
asciilifeform: uses no linked libs. i.e. approach is potentially usable from static muslism, ad-hoc lisps, etc.
asciilifeform: not given in the demo is the required mutexism, or any way to handle events (would need to listen on the socket, presumably. not tried yet.)
asciilifeform: original author hardcoded .Xauthority path; fixed this to getenv it
asciilifeform: ... strangely: on a box where 'artix', get 'Connection reply indicated failure.' (ln. 178)
asciilifeform: ( there also env var XAUTHORITY not set by default, had to set by hand )
asciilifeform: if anyone has 1) box with xorg 2) spare 5min -- plox to test & write in.
asciilifeform suspects 'improvement' in format of 'Xauthority' turd on newer linuxen
phf[asciilifeform]: http://logs.bitdash.io/pest/2022-11-21#1016701 << i like this "write everything from scratch" approach, but no need to hate on clx, it's written in the age when corporate entities still produced tight and usable code

asciilifeform: phf a neato
asciilifeform: phf: didja have to fiddle with it before it went ?
asciilifeform: http://logs.bitdash.io/pest/2022-11-21#1016714 << clx aint ~actually~ bloated; it simply supports the whole (or sumthing like) x11 protocol, which asciilifeform thinks aint needed for na kolenke gui (really, ask xserver to draw lines? wats wrong with drawing'em as if we're in msdos, in memory, etc)

asciilifeform just minutes ago uncrated ancient dead tree x proto manuals. may be able to turn above into sumthing useful at some pt...
asciilifeform suspects the demo choked on the other box on acct of not actually parsing all the xauth entries in the turd. will need to find out how... maybe will crib clx's
crtdaydreams[asciilifeform|busybot]: asciilifeform: you gonna huck it out in ada or lisp?
