billymg: the model number of my board is H8DGU-F and it's on the 3.5a bios, there is a 3.5c available. i'm thinking if i get the card working on another machine i'll try updating the bios

billymg: jumpers are in the correct position according to the manual

billymg: ok, so plugged into another machine the LSI/3ware boot message appears
billymg: so i guess that means it's a configuration issue, bios issue (that could maybe be solved by flashing the latest bios version), or a hardware issue with the PCI slot or riser
billymg: but yeah, the card appears to work fine, can press 'alt 3' to enter the bios config screen for the raid card
billymg: didn't bother connecting any drives, but no reason to believe it wouldn't work. on the supermicro, during boot, never saw any message from the card at all
