crtdaydreams: okok, well so I'm installing new NVMe, tryin' to figure out filesystem. Ext4 doesn't go <1048 sect. size and calling up nvme id-ns /dev/nvme0n1 displays that it has native sector size 512 and IO 512 aswell. No support for (2^9 somethings instead of 2^12)

crtdaydreams: well the problem seems to be with ext4, I've never used xfs before, there's some stuff additional to disabling continuous trim (a journalling filesystem) that I can't find any easy-to-follow guides on. It might just be a matter of RTFM.
crtdaydreams: I'm playing my cards safe, I did read xfs automatically determines bs but yeah.
