verisimilitude: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2022-01-25#1076317 My Meta-Machine Code is a structure editor of a sorts. All programming should be done in a human mind first, and in such tools second.
dulapbot: Logged on 2022-01-25 15:53:17 asciilifeform: structure editors would be a++ even for folx w/ working hands..
verisimilitude: It also has the nice quality of heavily reducing the typing required for such hacking.
mats: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2022-01-25#1076359 << no, theres a separate ladder for income tax now, since iirc trump tax cut and jerbs act
dulapbot: Logged on 2022-01-25 18:03:57 billymg: and what mats mentioned here i believe is based on your total income for that year. e.g. if you make $50k salary and then sell some asset for a profit you're already in that "kicks in at 40k" range
mats: nvm, i went to double check, think i misread something a while back
mats: https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc409 "The tax rate on most net capital gain is no higher than 15% for most individuals. Some or all net capital gain may be taxed at 0% if your taxable income is less than or equal to $40,400 for single or $80,800 for married filing jointly ... A capital gain rate of 15% applies if your taxable income is more than $40,400 but less than or equal to $445,850 for single"
mats: there is a separate ladder but it didn't work the way i thought it does
mats: cap gains tax treatment is still hella good compared to the fed income ladder, which is 35% up to 520k
mats: and the carveout for primary home ownership sale, which protects (250k usd single/500k married) in profit from tax
mats: or the 1031 exchange, which lets homeowners sell their (nonprimary, investment) home, buy another, and pay no capital gains tax. but i digress
vex: that sounds not too bad mats.
vex: compared to oz. we're much closer to 50 pc. can sell your primary house & keep profit upto maxint tho
vex: the quoted is kinda vauge tho huh?
vex: this is correct in my book. jonsykkel et all might use puddi

cgra: signpost or whaack have any idea whether the jetbrains/intellij family also have a decent ada variant? (although now that i checked again, the GPS may be fine after all. forgot why i thought previously otherwise)
bitbot: (pest) 2022-01-27 signpost[asciilifeform|billymg]: the refactoring tools are god-tier.
bitbot: (pest) 2022-01-27 whaack[asciilifeform]: but i have paid for jetbrains products before and would happily do it again
dulapbot: Logged on 2022-01-27 15:00:58 asciilifeform: and iirc whaack turned up >6 long reorgs in early history.
dulapbot: Logged on 2020-11-05 12:45:24 asciilifeform: in other noose, 8-block-long reorg earlier today (on .27 ; and the initial attempt to resolve it, in fact caused that noad to OOM)
cgra: re the 'orphan' misnomer, drawing the line between 'losing' and 'loser', instead of 'extinct' and 'resurrected', perhaps worth considering.
dulapbot: Logged on 2022-01-27 14:57:45 whaack: asciilifeform: given our emperical evidence so far i think it's fair to call loser/repudiated blocks extinct blocks, and should we learn that in practice losers can be revived, then that will be a resurrection
dulapbot: Logged on 2022-01-27 14:59:50 asciilifeform: ( the well-known tradition is 'declared dead after 6' but there's no fundamental physical basis for it )
cgra: coupla examples: losing/loser, 'losing' until declared 'loser'. how about the chain that recovers after initial losing position, a 'runner-up'?
cgra: dying/dead, 'dying' until declared 'dead'/'extinct', then a 'recoverer'/'recovering chain'?
cgra: then there's that, say, the node operator had a knob to decide how long a lead declares the losers/the winner. then the operator found out he had underestimated realistic reorg length and wants to adjust: now a previously declared 'loser' and the old 'winner' are swapped. i kinda feel the term 'resurrected' fits this scenario better, but prolly someone better in english can find a fitting 'sports term' here, too
cgra: * 'fits this scenario better' --> 'fits this scenario well'
asciilifeform: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2022-01-29#1077110 << asciilifeform was never able to get 'GPS' to build under dulap-gentoo. ( tried it on crapple & mswin, runs, but i dun ada there so can't comment in depth )

asciilifeform: cgra: afaik there aint any other 'ada ide'. ( asciilifeform uses classical emacs for all adaism )

asciilifeform: the tricky bit re looking for mega-reorgs in one's trb db is that they'll only be there if the install is ancient (i.e. actually saw the now-'dead' chains)
asciilifeform: if it was synced in modern times, will appear ~entirely linear w/ exception of very occasional 'splinter'
asciilifeform: this was why asciilifeform did not catch but in own 'dumpblocks' for yrs

asciilifeform: cgra: one time on a mswin box installed some kinda warez commercial ada, the editor was a complete joke (no highlighting, no completion, etc), can't presently recall which one
asciilifeform: there's afaik no equiv. of ms-vs for adaism. (this dun bother asciilifeform tho)
cgra: asciilifeform: hehe, perhaps best forgotten

asciilifeform still uses conventional 'ada-mode'
asciilifeform: ( w/ 'flymake', 'auto-complete', and 'popup')
asciilifeform: the lsp thing might be useful. ada aint imho an item which desperately needs one, tho (at least not in asciilifeform's style of adaing), typically they're direly needed for 'fat' langs w/ massive libs, when yer sweating over a pile of heathen coad which uses 'all but kitchen sink'
asciilifeform has used similar item for 'd', for a commercial ugh
signpost: yeah, imagine the explicitness of the code itself gets one quite far.

whaack: best way to do that would be , imo, to make a patch that sets the genesis block's difficulty as low as possible, then feed blocks with fake timestamps to make it so that there are no difficulty adjustments
whaack: these blocks also would need to have thousands of faux txns etc. to get the most accurate simulation
