asciilifeform: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2021-10-13#1061274 << asciilifeform never tried anyffin but simplest shoes. but did use just about erry kind of chair there is, and found that the kinds which can be properly adjusted, ventilate the arse, etc. are preferable. i suspect is highly individual thing.

asciilifeform: just as with the typing thing, tho, the 'best chair' is 'not having to sit in a chair all day'
dulapbot: Logged on 2020-08-28 20:50:31 asciilifeform: wholly unrelatedly, finally upgraded to modern chair, the kind where all the parts adjustable and arse floats 'in air'. recs to other folx stuck in front of comp for half the day
asciilifeform: there's a buncha 'anti-ergonomic' 'reactionary' folx. imho are fulla shit, they are ineptly rebelling against the price tag (the correct way to do this is to simply buy surplus, costs 1/5 -- 1/4 of the idjit corporate sticker price) and against californirasty ('bay aryans' buy 1000$ chairs, so let's sit on a sharpened telephone pole) but really
asciilifeform: veiled bragging re not being trapped in working all day imho
asciilifeform: ... where yes, if you actually only need to sit at a comp for hr or 2 a day, it doesn't much matter what you sit on.

signpost: when I'm not standing. bottom's rounded so you can lean in all directions, and so that you have to use your own core to remain upright.
signpost: these aerons are also nice though, worked in an office that had them
punkman: sitting on gaming chair right now, but a lot of the time I'm keeping upright posture without touching back of chair
signpost: https://www.upliftdesk.com/motion-stool-by-uplift-desk/ << this is the unfortunately named stool I use
punkman: no 2nd hand aerons here, last time I asked was around 2k eur, few years ago
signpost: sounds like something you use when constipated
signpost: they put a lot of weight in the base so it doesn't move on you
punkman: seen some like that before, want to try
punkman: seems like it would be nice for the drawing/painting table too
signpost: yep I have two, use the other for the music room when I want to lean on something playing guitar
thimbronion: signpost: cool stool
bonechewer: whaack: as I mentioned, I had numbness trending into pain in the ring finger and little finger which seems like what you are describing
dulapbot: Logged on 2021-06-13 18:06:23 bonechewer: (1) I switched to exclusively using a Kinesis Advantage keyboard, https://kinesis-ergo.com/keyboards/advantage2-keyboard/.
bonechewer: I think you are right about a vicious cycle of inflammation.
bonechewer: Another guess of mine is that inflammation leads to swelling, which can paradoxically cushion the nerve and relieve the pain for a while, but when the swelling subsides the pain returns
bonechewer: For me, that cycle reached the point that I could barely type and had pain even on my entirely keyboard-free weekends
bonechewer: Aspirin would get me through the day, but the long-term trend was to more severe pain
bonechewer: I saw an orthopedist and he recommended two things, which I followed:
bonechewer: (1) the Kinesis keyboard, which keeps the ring-finger side of the hand straight, rather than bending away from the thumb-side and thus compressing the nerve on the little-finger side
bonechewer: (2) 50 mg of Vitamin B6 per day
bonechewer: I had a lucky four-week break from work for a completely unrelated injury, during which I did not type at all, then started exclusive use of the Kinesis. Also started the B6 either before or after return to work.
asciilifeform: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2021-10-13#1061313 << interesting stake. is the idea to force a constant wobble, exercising muscles ?
dulapbot: Logged on 2021-10-13 11:18:08 signpost: https://www.upliftdesk.com/motion-stool-by-uplift-desk/ << this is the unfortunately named stool I use
bonechewer: I have been able to work 20+ years since then, although this is not a magic bullet. As I type this, I have been neglectful of the B6 for a few weeks, and I have to work one day or so per week in a shared space with no Kinesis. And so unsurprisingly I have mild pain in one little finger.
bonechewer: Note that I am talking only about the Kinesis keyboard which is convex in the middle and puts the Enter and Backspace keys on the thumbs. This sort was sold as "Classic" and now "Advantage". Kinesis makes other keyboards that don't have this (unique afaict) shape.
bonechewer: Unfortunately they go for ~200 USD even used. If you are patient, eventually a perfectly good PS/2 version should show up on eBay for less e.g.
signpost: asciilifeform: yep, exactly. gotta use your core to stabilize.
asciilifeform: signpost: nifty
mats: where did you find this
mats: do you also have a standing desk?
signpost: yeah, I've got one of their desks too
signpost: I alternate between standing and sitting on the swivel-stick
signpost: desk is mighty well made. came with a hilariously dystopian hammock for underneath (which I sometimes use for feet, but are rated for whole-dude weight)
signpost: I can get in and then have the motor lift the desk no problem
signpost: another improvement was the split keyboard I got, keeps arms at shoulder-width. that fixed some spine pain.
asciilifeform has standing desk, and bought what he thought was the strongest lift (bought lift and massive butcher block thing separately) but the thing has trouble moving without some manual 'push' from below -- asciilifeform has a little moar than the max rated mass bolted to the top & bottom of the thing...
