shinohai: thimbronion: imma hafta know more about this electric unicycle accident.
thimbronion: shinohai: The root issue there was that I turned around when battery was 50%, but neglected to take into account the return trip was mostly uphill. I ran out of batteries about 50 yards from my car going about 17 mph. Also ignored low battery warning.
shinohai: ouch
thimbronion: It was on one of these things: https://onewheel.com/products/xr. So the front tipped down. I got about two steps before I hit the pavement, somehow smashing both wrists. If I hadn't been wearing headphones, my ear would have been pretty fucked up too.
thimbronion: Amazingly nothing broke.
shinohai: oh ok, somehow I was imagining you on one of those "here comes dat boy!" meme unicycles.
thimbronion: shinohai: I've not seen that meme before now. How ignorant of me.
shinohai: It's an older meme, but it checks out.
shinohai: btw thimbronion ... do you like Rimsky-Korsakov? (Violin from Scheherazade has to be one of my all-time favorite things to listen to)
thimbronion: shinohai: I'd never heard of him or Scheherazade before Quite beautiful.
shinohai: It is, isn't it? I toyed with idea of playing violin long ago but was too obsessed with guitar to ever make anything of it.
thimbronion: Piano or guitar is definitely the most bang for your buck imo.

whaack: mats: (and anyone else) Can you share your experience in more detail with rsi/carpal tunnel, how it developed, how it is now, what you've done to reduce symptoms, etc? I'm starting to get tingling sensations in my pinky and ring finger on both hands that is accompanied by a pain that is mild but consistent.
shinohai: Interesting observation whaack re: trb blockheight
whaack: maybe if someone restarts their node we will all sync up
whaack goes ahead and restarts his.
shinohai: whaack: did your node advance? (Am unfortunately away from desk and cannot test own)
whaack: shinohai: No, but I realized I was only connecting to trb nodes, so I'm trying again now without passing in any specific ips
whaack: But tbh I don't understand how trb finds peers. I just restarted trb again with the command: LC_ALL=C /home/whaack/v/trb054/bitcoin/build/bitcoind -daemon -logtimestamps -myip=$myipd -verifyall &
shinohai: Best I understand it, once you connect to another node it will run 'getaddr' to find other peers and add 'em.
shinohai: I do have termux on this stupid phone, and kinda weird because pulled random address above and ran `nmap -p 8333 --script bitcoin-getaddr 192.151.158.26` and it returns whole slew of prb peers it sees.
whaack: I restarted 2 nodes (local and hosted one) and no luck getting the next block
whaack: trinque: Can you reveal the paste limit on paste.deedbot.org ? My block explorer is hitting it. If it's not too much to ask, can you increase the limit so that it can take 1MB of data written in hex format?

verisimilitude: I was going to save this for an article. I don't believe I've RSI, whaack, but do have soreness and also numbness at times.
whaack: verisimilitude: in all fingers or in the pinky and ring finger?
verisimilitude: My chording keyboard has allowed my right hand to rest, and my left pinky doesn't feel as if it will fall off; instead, my left arm is sore, not my hand.
verisimilitude: I've decided typing is fundamentally unpleasant, and want to look into voice recognition.
verisimilitude: I believe the problem may be in my back and shoulders, and will visit a chiropracter soon.
verisimilitude: I try to exercise to strengthen myself and lessen these issues.
verisimilitude: My setup is terrible; I may switch to a standing desk at some point.
verisimilitude: After typing this, my pinky is slightly numb, but I believe due to how it strikes the key.
whaack: verisimilitude: From my preliminary investigation it seems that the main problem is that two nerves - the median and the ulnar nerve - get compromised easily
whaack: My hunch is that repetitive strain causes inflamation surrounding the nerve, which causes pain, which causes more inflammation, and when this problem gets severe it is a never-ending feedback loop
verisimilitude: What bothers me is how men would use typewriters and whatnot, but I'm not aware of, say, Mark Twain giving it anything but praise.
verisimilitude: Did people merely complain less?
whaack: I think with proper technique and/or genetic luck you can avoid the injury.
verisimilitude: My keyboard in lap isn't so nice, but I'm without alternations.
whaack: verisimilitude: I learned from guitar that curling the pinky causes tension throughout the whole hand. You can see this for yourself by trying to touch where the thumb connects to the palm with your pinky. This tension-inducing motion happens when you press the ctrl key on many qwerty keyboards.
verisimilitude: I'm using my [BAT chording keyboard][http://verisimilitudes.net/2021-04-04].
whaack: verisimilitude: Nice, I may invest ine one of these. I just switched left ctrl and caps lock to try to give my left pinky/ulnar nerve some relief.
verisimilitude: I'm not certain it's been a great help. I no longer go to sleep with my right pinky in pain shooting down mine arm, but my left arm could be better.
verisimilitude: I did much more typing back then, however.
whaack: regarding stuck at block 687407 -- I noticed a [heathen block explorer][https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/block/00000000000000000008098cc40f6c9192c9d294edaf710846e07514c8586863/] is stating that the "virtual size" of the block - whatever the fuck that is - is just over 1MB. bonechewer: I am a long time reader of loper-os, see e.g. http://www.loper-os.org/?p=3706&cpage=1#comment-19893
bonechewer: I had the symptoms whaack describes (numb/painful ring finger and little finger) after starting a full-time developer job in 1997 (!).
bonechewer: I made two changes at an orthopedist's recommendation and have been able to continue a typing-heavy job for nearly a quarter century:
bonechewer: (1) I switched to exclusively using a Kinesis Advantage keyboard, https://kinesis-ergo.com/keyboards/advantage2-keyboard/.
bonechewer: This is the only keyboard I know of that minimizes ulnar deviation by its shape and the fact that it places space and backspace on the thumbs. I think its shape is patented.
bonechewer: Be careful buying this thing used. Early versions have a horrible firmware bug that make it incompatible with any PC that has a USB 3.0 controller, which includes everything recent. The symptom is that random keypresses are registered. It's maddening.
bonechewer: (2) I take 50 mg of Vitamin B-6 per day. If I stop for a week or two, I feel it in my wrists.
bonechewer: I hope this helps, whaack!
whaack: bonechewer: thanks. I'll give the vitamin b-6 a try, and I'll consider dropping the $$ for the kinesis, I tried a ergodox keyboard before but did not like it (couldn't get over the learning curve, also I detested that keys changed function based on how long you pressed them for, maybe I could have configured away the problem but never got around to it)
