asciilifeform: shinohai: you may find interesting (supposing not already eaten) diana_coman's notes re ch. 1--4.

shinohai: Also, did manage finally to find a stage3 that worx on pogoplug, used: stage3-armv5tel-20180831. (So now can possibly use this for own portage mirror or such)
asciilifeform: shinohai: neato.
shinohai: Why I can't just give up on this little board I have no idea :)
shinohai: In other interesting gentoo stuff, one of the girls acquired new lappy and I installed gentoo on it. If you try and build trb on it, does not work - glibc causes buildroot step to fail with "error "Please port gnulib fseeko.c to your platform!"
asciilifeform: shinohai: which gentoo ?
shinohai: using latest minimal iso: install-x86-minimal-20191115T214503Z.iso
shinohai: (mainly to be used for sad tasks, so didn't bother to do proper install)
asciilifeform: shinohai: i'd leave anyffin gentoo-flavoured that post-dates '16 or so, alone
asciilifeform: iirc entirely incompat. w/ civilized gcc, after certain date in '16
shinohai: nb ... glibc gets more liquidy every passing day anyways.
asciilifeform: shinohai: afaik 32-bit arm is out of print ( with exception of microcontrollers , w/ very modest clock and memory bus ) so arguably dead end there
asciilifeform: at least in re gentooism
asciilifeform: ( this is perhaps odd, cuz i still haven't found anyone offering for sale a 64-bit arm that can actually eat >4GB of ram, just yet )
shinohai: A 64-bit arm board w/ expandable ram slots would be a very, very nice item.
asciilifeform: there was 1 chinese outfit that supposedly sold one, but at ludicrous price ( i.e. more than 32-cpu 'dulap' ! cost )
shinohai: oh neat mats ... but phew! US$1,210.00
asciilifeform: mats: i was thinking of the 2nd. the 1st is substantially cheaper but apparently aint an rk. ( does it boot blobless ? last i knew, rk was the only 64-bit arm which did )
asciilifeform: seems like the only way to get an rk w/ expandable dimms is to design w/ own hands & commission it yerself. ( which in turn introduces the q of where the fuck to get a bobbin of rk cpu )
asciilifeform: looked at this 2y ago and came up empty , i suspect for lack of reading chinese
asciilifeform: 750 usd ?!
mats: i'm not sure if any of these are blobless
asciilifeform: if it were priced like orig rk, i'd at least pick one up & try. but this is insane.
mats: demand is thin so they gotta upcharge, probably
asciilifeform: reminds me of e.g. 'talos' co.
mats: theres an even pricier honeycomb board with 100gbe if thats your jam
asciilifeform: these golden toilets are quite like rk but with ~none~ of the upsides ( will blobless? no one knows. will fit 48 pieces in 3u? fuckno, is massive brick, needs atx (why?) ps. and costs like 12 orig rk. for what? )
asciilifeform: dimm slots aint any kinda deep magic, add maybe 50cents of cost, per se.
