asciilifeform: ddos aint the only headache tho. what happens when yer raid needs fresh disk ? or say one day yer box won't ping. if you can't physically get to it, will have to ask someone on site. do they answer in realtime? etc

asciilifeform: in principle, if the only thing you host is your own www, and you absolutely dun give a damn re the irons, you can use cheapo isps and change'em like gloves. rather than bothering w/ colo etc.
asciilifeform: in practice, the cost of this begins to add up once you're using serious qtys of storage, cpu, or bw
asciilifeform: for instance, when i priced what costs to lease just 1 box comparable to just 1 of my standard 'dulap's (32core, 256GB ram, 4x1tb ssd) , in most places it is comparable to what my whole rack costs.

asciilifeform: atm afaik mine's the only mirror that adds up to a proper (i.e. gcc4, 0 systemdism) gentoo .
