It might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Be transparent! Make public your data! US owe us an explanation! " - @zlj517 some Chinese foreign ministry PR guy
BingoBoingo: He also was for immigration before he was against it.
asciilifeform: thimbronion: if 'bioweapon', whoever bought it oughta ask for his money back. laughably weak 'weapon'.
thimbronion: asciilifeform: the whole thing is very bizarre. Still waiting for people here to collapse in the streets as they were supposedly duing in Wuhan.
asciilifeform: thimbronion: the only thing 'collapsing in the streets' is small biz .
snsabot: Logged on 2020-04-06 13:10:58 asciilifeform: thimbronion: if the crown 'pushed pause button' on productive economy, but not on rents -- then naturally ~errything other than crematorium will eventually go outta biz.
asciilifeform: china has bezzle implosion in the style of usa-2008; needed a smoke screen. notice, 'amazing' 2-week-build field hospitals etc. all disassembled. performance over, props removed from stage.
asciilifeform: nato reich decided to copy the script.
thimbronion: BingoBoingo: I didn't read unz in its pro immigration days. That said I never quite understood why he had the Ask a Mexican column.
asciilifeform: in ru, esp. comical performance, folx standing inside packed train stations to get 'movement permit' for quarantine
BingoBoingo: thimbronion: That was before he made his site. Way back in the 1990's when he ran for California office
thimbronion: asciilifeform: likewise stile waiting here for the pics of high school gyms full of patients.
asciilifeform: picture this in a bona fide '80% kill' epidemic, e.g. obola
asciilifeform: or the 'test stations' where 'maybe you walked in w/out it, but nao you got it!' etc
thimbronion: Meanwhile I can't get my art framed.
BingoBoingo: Still no lockdown here and now the Anglotards are derping about Uruguay having the world's lowest R0 for the virus
thimbronion: asciilifeform: the only testing I can see the point of is random antibody testing - if that even works.
asciilifeform: in usa, the 'chattering class' more or less openly hoping the 'party never ends' : paid vacation from commutes and cube hells
thimbronion: BingoBoingo: I think in CR the deaths are in the low 3 digits.
BingoBoingo: We hit 12 yesterday...
BingoBoingo: There seems to be a growing suspicion we got scammed
PeterL: I wonder how many people are going to continue working from home now that they showed it works?
BingoBoingo: Government here is treading the fine line between humoring the wail, and getting people back to work.
asciilifeform: mechanism for 'pile of corpses' show is pretty simple : folx have e.g. coronary, or car crash, walk into hospital, 'you can sit in the hall for next 2 days', finally keep over, tested, 'he had covid' (at this pt 60-70% tests +) , corpses += 1
thimbronion: PeterL: my hunch is few. But idk.
asciilifeform: *keel over
thimbronion: PeterL: I don't understand the commuters though. Horrible life.
PeterL: They keep putting up the number of "deaths from COVID", but they never say the normal amount of deaths over the same time for comparison
asciilifeform: observe the lack of 'pile of corpse' in african orcistans; or iceland; or any # of places which 'didn't get the memo'
thimbronion: asciilifeform: yeah still waiting for "humanitarian disaster" in africa.
thimbronion: now it's "the second wave will be worse tho"
PeterL: I guess it depends on what you do ... I commute (~5 min) to work, have chemicals and instruments in the lab that I wouldn't be able to do from home
asciilifeform: PeterL: 5min?! do you live in the lab ?
thimbronion: PeterL: not bad. But many many people commute 1hr+ in cars. I once did car+train+lightrail.
PeterL: I live in a small town, nothing in town is more than 5 mins away from where I live
asciilifeform when last had commute, it was nominally 1h (ea. way) but often 2+, i.e. summing to 4h in wheeled coffin ea. biz day
PeterL: Some of my co-workers commute from the next town or two over, their commute is 20 or 30 minutes
thimbronion: BingoBoingo: so now there are all sorts of "organic" protests happening here.
thimbronion: by "conservatives"
PeterL: did you ever consider moving closer to where you work?
asciilifeform: PeterL: in those days -- did consider. but did not want to spend 80% of the pay on a 40m^2 cockroach flat, which is what it would've meant.
BingoBoingo: thimbronion: I've been reading about them, but honestly if they aren't shooting or breaking shit... After Oregon and the Virginia thing... I have low expectations for boomer activism
thimbronion: BingoBoingo: has a wiff of Charlottsville to me.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: what did 'shootin' and breakin'' get e.g. the bmore folx ?
asciilifeform: last i knew, you can't shoot soros from street of bmore. need at least medium-range icbm.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Shooting and breaking seemed to give them de facto control over much of the city
thimbronion: asciilifeform: africa for africans at any cost
BingoBoingo: The bmore folx didn't care about shooting lizards. THey just wanted the local cops to stfu
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: afaik they already achieved 'africa for the africans' there. dun recall ever seeing a white cop in bmore.
thimbronion: asciilifeform: but they still have racist technologies like running water and electricity.
asciilifeform: thimbronion: iirc even in johannesburg still (nominally) also have
asciilifeform: 'while supplies last'
thimbronion: asciilifeform: yes I believe there was noise about a water shortage but I haven't heard much about it recently.
asciilifeform: thimbronion: water price ~doubled in washingtonistan suburbia in past decade. ~0 noise in the fishwrap.
asciilifeform: noise is made when the noisemakers find it expedient, and not otherwise.
BingoBoingo: Across the river dollar blue is running past 100
thimbronion: BingoBoingo: 100 pesos per dollar?
BingoBoingo: In Argentina. Had been around 80 then jumped a few days ago. Hard to tell when it will start running free, but... the time seems to be coming soon
BingoBoingo: Official rate only climbed up to about 68 to the dollar
asciilifeform: http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/agriculturalsupremacy/2020-04-22#1002031 << fwiw i strongly suspect corpse count per diem is ~lower~ nao, in usa in particular, than 'in peacetime' -- given the lack of the usual traffic carnage
snsabot: Logged on 2020-04-22 13:13:46 PeterL: They keep putting up the number of "deaths from COVID", but they never say the normal amount of deaths over the same time for comparison
asciilifeform: ( not to mention that traffic corpses tend to consist of working-age folx, vs. the typical flu victim, who already 1 foot in grave )

thimbronion: I would say we're at roughly 90% facemask coverage at urban supermarkets now.
thimbronion: Keep getting the feeling I'm in some kind of nightmare.
BingoBoingo: It's definitely absurd
