thimbronion: BingoBoingo: I am having trouble putting something together for the spy story. There isn't anything very recent that is related that is very compelling that I can find.
thimbronion: Regarding the bech32 story, I'm not sure I see the angle there. They've supported segshit addresses for a while already, so it is unsurprising that they'd start supporting bech32.
jfw: thimbronion: seems to me the potential surprise is in the unique perspective qntra can bring to it. Some angles that occurred to me were: they apparently broke clients' previous deposit addresses with zero notice; they're digging deeper into the hole and continuing to not support actual bitcoin addresses (as one of the top supposed btc/fiat exchanges!); it's to be expected they'll drop support for
jfw: 3-addresses too, with equally great warning, once they decide in their blindness that "everyone" has "upgraded"; in the release they lie or at best are being highly misleading about the "benefits" of the new address format.
jfw: Has qntra even commented on this blech32 format? If not, this would seem like an opportunity to get its message out to the crowd that might be currently looking for information on what it's about.
thimbronion: jfw - ok I can see those two main points - no warning about upgrade, completely ignoring the security flaws of segshit - which is namely that anyone can spend it
BingoBoingo: jfw: Thank you for those angles
BingoBoingo: thimbronion: Are the any other stories that are pulling at you today, or do you need a prompt to dig into
thimbronion: Nothing else is pulling at me today. Prompting welcome.
BingoBoingo: thimbronion: How about https://archive.is/JXzbK
thimbronion: BingoBoingo: is the angle there "Backdoors don't pay"?
thimbronion: lol "Greatly reduced our exposure in China"
BingoBoingo: thimbronion: You can tie it into the Huawei thing, "USG has to beg allies to not buy Huawei and pay their own small isps to do the same"
BingoBoingo: thimbronion: There's a great trilema piece on cisco featuring backdoors don't pay and this story hammers the actual unfolding of that history
thimbronion: Ok. I can see it.
BingoBoingo: The thing where reducing exposure to china connects to their shift to software first, also seems like a rather raw spot to hit
thimbronion: ah yup
BingoBoingo: Check the Qntra archives for prior Huawei/Cisco stories to supply history, and locate that trilema piece on Cisco's doom. I suspect your greater knowledge of china doings can inform some angles of attack I've not seen.
thimbronion: Ok will check.
thimbronion: BingoBoingo: is this the cisco article you are referring to? http://trilema.com/2014/dear-derps-you-are-being-herded/ - I also found this: http://trilema.com/2014/strategic-thinking-as-an-exercise/. There is also an obituary in the logs: http://btcbase.org/log/?date=15-11-2013#380106
BingoBoingo: AHA, dear derps is the one.
BingoBoingo: thimbronion: tyvm
thimbronion: BingoBoingo: yw
BingoBoingo: thimbronion: Published, very nice use of just under 100 words.
BingoBoingo to walk a bit.
