mircea_popescu: anyway. mildly amusing that in 2017 rando still don quixoting with the same windmills as in 2014. who knows, maybe if he wastes his ENTIRE life at this, "how he thinks normal debates work" will matter.
mircea_popescu: anything but suck the cock of your betters, it is teh modernity after all, french revolution relevant 4evar!!1
mircea_popescu: and in other "god fucking damn it", i used coffee grinder to grind down some clavo de olor, which was so fucking juicy and fresh it ACTUALLY DISSOLVED the god damned plastic.
mircea_popescu: ruined coffee grinder i had to import all the way from switzerland.
BingoBoingo: lol @ USG says WAT
BingoBoingo: cry @ poor grinder, hardly knewer
davout: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-09#1734898 <<< housing looks like a nightmare there

deedbot: concernedscaling voiced for 30 minutes.
mircea_popescu: shinohai did it come alive at night and fuck their wife ?
shinohai: Likely, so "we gotta make sure and ban you 'muricans from these 80 hotels, just to be sure"
shinohai: poppycock
mircea_popescu: sooo obama lifted all-cuba ban, to be enforced instead on a hotel-by-hotel basis ?
mircea_popescu: i can almost see the local charge d'affaires, "if you don't get taller hookers ima have your hotel del ray added to index!"
concernedscaling: Hi everyone. I'm trying to make sense of all this scale talk and I want to keep my BTC safe. My first mistake is probably getting information from twitter and redditard. We have Dr Craig W going on (and quite convincing) about BCash being the real bitcoin as it is able to scale like satoshis vision. However, this makes no sense to me considerin
concernedscaling: g it was a fork (it's like Litecoin in my mind, which "scales" as well). But even more concerning is Bitcoin with segwit, and my current BTC on this upgraded protocol. I have not seen much talk about these issues in here lately, is there a reason for this? It seems like most are underestimating the threat of this fake bcash and segwit.
a111: Logged on 2017-11-08 17:30 davout: so apparently the segwit2x derps finally yielded https://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-segwit2x/2017-November/000685.html
davout: concernedscaling: i don't think there's much to be said about this whole "issue" that wasn't said in 2014/2015
mircea_popescu: the stubborn insistence of the "reading public" to read old newspapers is very much the chief ideological point of the journalist "profession", as it keeps them in print.
mircea_popescu: to not read*
concernedscaling: Thanks. I guess I am just trying to make sense of all of this, and couldnt find it in the logs. Instead of bcash forking from bitcoin, what was stopping them from just mining and rejecting segwit transactions on the the real BTC?
concernedscaling: doesn't this make way more sense?
mircea_popescu: concernedscaling do you know what happens when you divide by 0 ?
mircea_popescu: hm. problem might have been larger than originally thought.
concernedscaling: I mean, it is undefined
concernedscaling: Why is this relevant?
mircea_popescu: right. so this is also the problem here : you keep trying to make sense of the situation left after a division by 0.
mircea_popescu: you see some labels, and take out your chinese set, and lay out the pawns, these red ones to label1, these blue ones to label2 etcetera
mircea_popescu: this is not the real situation. bitcoin exists. "bitcoin cahs" DOES NOT EXIST. the various people that talk about things similarily do not exist.
concernedscaling: Ok, does Segwit exist?
mircea_popescu: you're probably too young to remember max keiser, and his amusing "expertises" in bitcoin years ago ; nevertheless a good helping of http://trilema.com/2017/cezar-petrescu-file-dintrun-caiet-de-amintiri-mateiu-i-caragiale/#footnote_25_75738 woul;d probably help.
mircea_popescu: concernedscaling it does not.
concernedscaling: At what point can the real bitcoin continue to mutate until something bad happens
mircea_popescu: mutate ?
concernedscaling: Segwit is on the real bitcoin, no?
concernedscaling: seems like a mutation is occurring
mircea_popescu: you ever seen one of those old toyota trucks people deleted bits off so they read YO ?
mircea_popescu: has toyota "mutated" or wtf is the argument here. aftermarket modifications are marginal by their fucking definition. the people involved wouldn't be involved otherwise.
mircea_popescu: conceivably someone somewhere modified his bitcoin client to read "Hakked by CooLbOy" and recompiled. this is mutation now ?
concernedscaling: haha, I see. I do remember max keiser, and I see him still very involved in the bitcoin scene to this day
mircea_popescu: yes, in the strictest of senses, the obscure masturbatory activities of desocialized youths "exist". but they do not socially exist, and for a very good reason : they're asocial to begin with.
concernedscaling: He even resorts to scam pumping of dash
mircea_popescu: there's more scene than there's audience chairs, see.
mircea_popescu: old will was right, "the world's a stage". what he omitted to point out is that the hall only goes a yard whereas the stage goes on for miles. out of the building, and into the mists.
shinohai: !!up concernedscaling
deedbot: concernedscaling voiced for 30 minutes.
concernedscaling: Thanks, I will try and not get caught up in the shit that doesnt really matter
shinohai: lol davout .... saved!
mircea_popescu: lol notbad. who's the author ?
davout: nfi
concernedscaling: if that is his twitter handle, his name is Ben Halpern
concernedscaling: Creator/founder/webmaster of https://dev.to (@ThePracticalDev). Mount Allison grad, coder, buddhist, feminist, Batman.
mircea_popescu: concernedscaling so invite him over.
mircea_popescu: what's this, like another digg/reddit ?
concernedscaling: twitter? yeah something like that
mircea_popescu: concernedscaling why not make yourself a pgp key and reg with deedbot at that ?
concernedscaling: a cesspool of ideas and spam, just a tool for controlling people. The fighting about core vs bcash vs seg2x vs miners vs blahblah is entertaining. Sad that I need to take part to see how the market reacts
mircea_popescu: why specifically do you care ?
concernedscaling: I don't want to underestimate the dumb money being thrown around. I dont want all of these idiot users to crash my BTC holdings because some fake satoshi is spewing political nonsense on redditard/twitter to control people.
mircea_popescu: throwing money around rarely crashes anything.
shinohai: Still relevant
mircea_popescu: we are talking of fiatola here, after all.
concernedscaling: Yes, I have read that a few times
concernedscaling: "Moreover, my budget to sink this scam exceeds the budget of everyone involved on the supporting side"
concernedscaling: can you sink it already?
mircea_popescu: there have been a lot of these pies in the sky to be concerned about to date, huh.
mircea_popescu: concernedscaling for my curiosity, if you were to calculate the total hours you spent with " I need to take part to see how the market reacts" to date, what'd it come to ?
concernedscaling: yeah, can't sink them all as they will just keep coming
concernedscaling: You know, it's actually pretty strange. I just buy and hold, but given the substantial amount of money, I rely on being current with the bullshit going on, because I chose to not underestimate the power of the idiots and how much harm it can do
davout: "sinking fake bitcoins" actually yields *more* bitcoins to further sink other fake bitcoins
concernedscaling: But, I don't even trade
mircea_popescu: ok, but put out a figure. how many man hours does the concern take a year ?
concernedscaling: maybe ~730 hours
mircea_popescu: so since 2014 let's say, since you recall keyser, we could say you spent about 2k hours, or a full year's workhours, on this.
mircea_popescu: how many hours did you spend building a bitcoin something ?
mircea_popescu: like, a logotron is maybe a day's work to stand up and then maybe a hour monthly to maintain and such.
mircea_popescu: concernedscaling well... i'd say you have good cause to be concerned then.
mircea_popescu: why not split work and axiety more evenly ? 100% to anxiety seems a poor strategy.
concernedscaling: That is probably a very good idea
mircea_popescu: you're welcome.
shinohai: Navigating to http://thebitcoin.foundation/trb-howto.html and building that would be a far, far better use of one's time as well.
shinohai: !!up Guest44578
deedbot: Guest44578 voiced for 30 minutes.
concernedscaling: Thanks, havent seen this idiot proof how to guide
concernedscaling: will try and get TRB node going later
shinohai: If you need any help or get stuck, ping me or sing out here in chan. Someone will be happy to assist.
concernedscaling: will try and get a key going too
concernedscaling: If it so profitable to kill scams, why do so many exist?
asciilifeform: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-09#1735055 << this was the umpteenth 'i am beset with ants! and i heard you have an anteater here' wasnnit.
a111: Logged on 2017-11-09 15:01 concernedscaling: can you sink it already?
asciilifeform: 'why dontcha stop sitting on anthill' 'wat' 'aha, get off the anthill' 'that's not possible, everywhere is anthill' etc
shinohai: But how else will I know what the ants are doing?
mircea_popescu: concernedscaling the generator is ambitious idiots. they don't "feel" their current social station is befitting for one such as them ; but they ALSO don't "feel" like they should have to do what has to be done.
mircea_popescu: from this search of "the easier way" by people stupid enough to not be able to distinguish the workable from the unworkable, the scam ever emerges.
mircea_popescu: in any population the majority will be insufficient, and therefore readily converge towards somesuch nonsense.
mircea_popescu: so basically speaking, for as long as the women will keep getting pregnant the schoolteachers will still have work to do.
asciilifeform: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-09#1734987 << swiss plastic rubbish aint what it used to be, eh
a111: Logged on 2017-11-09 05:05 mircea_popescu: ruined coffee grinder i had to import all the way from switzerland.
mircea_popescu: every plastic will be solluble in something
mircea_popescu: it's the definition of plastic.
asciilifeform: what's teflon soluble in ?
mircea_popescu: i dunno, dmf ?
asciilifeform: afaik at stp in nuffin
mircea_popescu: i suppose. so how does it polymerizwe then ?
asciilifeform: iirc heat/pressure.
mircea_popescu: o wow look at that, it's actually done ~in emulsion~. i had nfi.
mircea_popescu: i'll stand by it : this then means that teflon is only marginally at best a plastic.
asciilifeform: it's a fluoroplastic ( the su unbranding of it, naturally )
mircea_popescu: apparently it can be formulated so as to dissolve in dmf/dma etc
asciilifeform: there are other fluoroplastics , that are easier to work / other desirable parameters tweaked
mircea_popescu: not sure i want teflonated coffee grinder tbh.
mircea_popescu: now, it';d be nice if you could buy BRONZE interior. not fucking electrolysed, but SOLID. nevertheless, it is apparently usg-forbidden to use actual materials.
asciilifeform: why not teflon ? your grinder goes over 260C ?
mircea_popescu: let the dumps contain 1000 plastic re-instantiations of the same god damned object, what if i could afford to pay 3x the price and leave it to my grandkids.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform locally, i expect it does. high speed granules etc.
mircea_popescu: wtf is wrong with a chunk of fucking bronze, 100 grams or so, for the inner housing.
asciilifeform: bronze has one possible headache : very often has pb added ( for machineability )
mircea_popescu: so make special kitchen alloy.
asciilifeform: oh hey didn't mircea_popescu at one time have a bronze mortar ?
mircea_popescu: reason i even know "cuisinart" is that they used to make metal tools. except stopped.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform i also have marble ones.
mircea_popescu: and granite and etc.
asciilifeform: so can haz kitchen bronze, then.
asciilifeform: surgical steel would also work
mircea_popescu: it's what they used to do.
asciilifeform: incidentally why ground the thing in coffee grinder, vs blender ( with the glass bulb ) ?
asciilifeform: needs fine powder ?
mircea_popescu: was the idea.
mircea_popescu: needs fine powder and too juicy to grind well in mortar so give it a shot.
asciilifeform: prolly would work if you dessicated it 1st
asciilifeform: ( or is the juice necessary )
shinohai: I have one of these, best one I have ever bought: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A6CP1HI/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1
mircea_popescu: yes, but general solution for this (salt) not usable. and i don't eat enough sugar for that alternative + i don't eat the white hygroscopic kind
asciilifeform: not salt
asciilifeform: vacuum dessicator.
mircea_popescu: so wait, i got really good clovges and ima put them into a "make-them-like-the-walmart-ones" tool ?
mircea_popescu: shinohai nice, steel and ceramic.
shinohai: Yeah, 0 plastic parts. Had the thing like 5 years now
asciilifeform: oh hm if need to pulverize with juice still in, can try freezing
asciilifeform: this was described in the altschuller b00k
mircea_popescu: pretty cool. and evidently making it right doesn't make it more expensive, 25 bux is what all cost.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform didn't think of it. actually, had 0 expectation i'd end up with a dissolved-and-recombined surface of the inside of the thing, from smooth to matte.
asciilifeform: shinohai: they had exactly like this grinder in the timis 'museum of communist konsoomer'
mircea_popescu: the sadness of "modern technology" is that it fails miserably at things that aren't THAT technologically advanced.
mircea_popescu: takes a lot of effort to reproduce today the kitchen of 1880 middle class polish housewife.
asciilifeform: the 1880s housewife didn't insist on existing in 1e9 copies.
mircea_popescu: her husband did.
shinohai: asciilifeform: perfect for that bourgeois blend
mircea_popescu: what good catholic didn't have a dozen kids then.
asciilifeform: they also had proper wars.
mircea_popescu: notrly the poles. more like proper reamings.
asciilifeform: fact being, the tub had a drain then. today, faucet still runs, but no drain.
mircea_popescu: the tub has no drain an' erryone looks pretty drained.
asciilifeform: ( phunphakt : in plebeland usa, it is not wholly unheard of for folx to live for weeks or months in a house without working drains. shit in buckets, dishes turn green, etc )
mircea_popescu: the joys of overcrowding.
asciilifeform: the joys of 'spend every penny you make, and owe maxint'
mircea_popescu: that's the counter-counter of http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-07#1733641 : it is impossible to clog drain here.
a111: Logged on 2017-11-07 20:08 asciilifeform: it has up side, and down ( e.g. http://btcbase.org/log/2017-08-30#1706555 )
asciilifeform: lolwhy, the drain is a hole in the galleon's captain's cabin, hangs over the sea ?
mircea_popescu: ben_vulpes is that polycarbonate ?
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform drain does 100m drop over a mile, calculate the force a column of water puts upon it, obtain higher value than kitchen garbage disposal unit applies
asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: that looks like a starbuckstron. which i always suspected has a part in explaining why their swill tastes like burned plastic
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: most clogs happen metre or two from the arse
mircea_popescu: not the kind that turn dishes green, i'd have imagined ?
ben_vulpes: mircea_popescu: housing, yeah
mircea_popescu: if this is true, why not just fix
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: because unless you know how with own hands, 'fix' is 500-800bux
mircea_popescu: so buy a snake, big whoop. 20 bux at BingoBoingo 's store.
asciilifeform: but you also gotta be able and willing to lift the throne ( old houses in usa have no cleanplug ) etc.
ben_vulpes: asciilifeform: the burrs are steel in mine
asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: mircea_popescu earlier suggested , 'boltzmann distrib' of coffee speck velocities, almost certainly has high end that grinds pieces of your vessel into the output
mircea_popescu: of course, inexplicably it's all written in french, "pour usage domestique" etc.
asciilifeform: ahahahahahaha i have that one
mircea_popescu: scams everywhere! "made in chine"
asciilifeform: but i haven't tried grinding wet ginsung or whatnot
ben_vulpes: ah well yeah, especially the bladed models are going to produce lots of high velocity particles
ben_vulpes: a burr grinder has nested conical grinding faces; spacing between which controls ground finenes
ben_vulpes: also, blade pulverizes, burr shears. better extraction with the latter method.
ben_vulpes: also vastly lower velocity.
asciilifeform: why not take to logical conclusion, and use millstones
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform actually "short" snake is flexible enough to go through toilet water trap deliberately for this reason.
ben_vulpes: why, when the burr grinder is an excellent solution
mircea_popescu: he has a point, i hadn't thought of that. exactly like pepper mill, have two cones in each other, adjustable distance.
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: i have that type of snake.
ben_vulpes: also burr grinder does not cook the coffee while grinding it, ever notice how the bladed model leaves the grounds...warm?
asciilifeform: it's a good first-line.
mircea_popescu: ben_vulpes yep, yours is teh correct solution.
asciilifeform: not really physically possible to grind without heating
ben_vulpes: not really possible to exist without producing waste heat either
mircea_popescu: but it is possible to use a cone plane instead of a 1dimensional blade
mircea_popescu: ima get a cone grinder. nfi why i don't have one.
ben_vulpes: but what, give up, sacrifice all efficiency because there's always more gas down the road?
mircea_popescu: in retrospect seems a lot like not having a knife, "cutting bread on this veg peeler is so hard"
ben_vulpes: or maybe just maybe have a care for the final product and take minimal steps to minimize pre-cooking out of volatiles
asciilifeform: oh hm these look interesting, ben_vulpes , sorta like jet compressor
mircea_popescu: precisely.
asciilifeform: high-tech.
mircea_popescu: no dude, "having gone to school" tech as opposed to "i heard on youtube" tech
asciilifeform: i mean, the thing looks multiaxis-machined
ben_vulpes: "i don't know much, but i paid attention in materials and machine design while everyone else was browsing facebook and copying homework out of the solution guide"
asciilifeform: kommunist konsoomer did not have'em.
mircea_popescu: communist consumer might have not been the end-all be-all, i find myself sometimes suspecting.
mircea_popescu: strangely there seem to be some extant records where he himself thinks the same!
asciilifeform: speaking of, asciilifeform learned that folx in guangdong will laser-decap ICs for fiddybux/ea.
mircea_popescu: that's pretty good.
mircea_popescu: ea or ea layer ?
asciilifeform: my item has 1 metal layer, so i didn't ask. but i'd expect moar layers, cost extra.
mircea_popescu: otherwise it'd be pretty scary.
asciilifeform: mailing it back an' forth per layer, would be annoying
asciilifeform: if yer thing is multilayered you'd ideally have the microscopy done in same house.
mircea_popescu: scary enough as it is, the hopes of the us as to http://btcbase.org/log/2017-10-08#1722633 are entirely spurious. teh chinese have long reversed all us military chips.
a111: Logged on 2017-10-08 14:18 mircea_popescu: " “The Saudi’s will not be able to link the S-400 with Saudi’s current (US and Europe-sourced) infrastructure, nor will they be able to connect the S-400 with US systems." << says who the everloving fuck.
mircea_popescu: ~only reason the saudis even bought the crap in the first place.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform ofcourse.
asciilifeform: idk that usg any longer even uses items not of chinese make to begin with
mircea_popescu: the rocketry chips are made in like vermont at considerable expense
asciilifeform: at least in 1980s they were. nfi re nao.
mircea_popescu: 80s iirc east coast.
asciilifeform: half the reason for the ultra-dense vlsi thing , i suspect, is to make reversing a headache
asciilifeform: ( rather than 'performance' or whatever nonsense )
asciilifeform: also gotta distinguish b/w the 2 types of reversing ( did we have thread ? ) -- sov-style clone is CONSIDERABLY easier than proper logical reverse
mircea_popescu: performance of the density kind is an anti-model for rocketry. on the contrary, large, wide edge process like the z80s much better fit for space usage.
asciilifeform: in the 'logical' sense , original z80 was only ~recently~ publicly reversed
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform the chinese have teh manpower to do it, if organized.
asciilifeform: i'd expect. the trick is that almost no one has ever any reason.
asciilifeform: usually what is wanted is -- cheap local clone.
mircea_popescu: national state aspirations.
asciilifeform: ( in almost every case i can think of, 'design from 0' is cheaper than 'logical reverse'. so the latter is ~only done when you are specifically looking for weaknesses or otherwise items present only in the original , vs the spec )
mircea_popescu: incidentally, it occurs to me, euroZONE is the perfect word for it, isn't it ?
mircea_popescu: finally, the zone.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform they ARE looking for weaknesses. there's a reason usg lost south china sea.
asciilifeform: большая зона (tm)(r)
mircea_popescu: euroзона. perfect.
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: i thought it 'lost' because noballs ( rather than rockets-not-rockety-enuff )
mircea_popescu will use this henceforth to distinguish the item from europe.
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform so let me get this straight : you think beta loves his cock cage because "no balls", and NOT because "small cock" ? these are somehow different ?
mircea_popescu: they had plenty of balls in 1990, if memory serves. even bombed belgrade.
asciilifeform: dun need balls to bomb ~defenseless orcs
mircea_popescu: so the balls and the penis are related ? i thought so!
mircea_popescu: they've no balls cuz they've no penis and vice versa, and ultimately because no testosterone so every bit of soy sauce they pick up from environment makes the titties sag a little hurtlier.
asciilifeform: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-11-09#1735222 << returning briefly upstack, there's a 'seekrit' bit of hilarity : usg actually moving away from old, classic 'z80-style' dies, and into 'let's have modern density, so we can run javaturds, let ibm make 'space-grade' ppc , etc -- but that's ok, we'll use 8 in tandem '
a111: Logged on 2017-11-09 16:51 mircea_popescu: performance of the density kind is an anti-model for rocketry. on the contrary, large, wide edge process like the z80s much better fit for space usage.
asciilifeform: asciilifeform discovered this when digging in recent ada lit
mircea_popescu: kinda why the chinese have to take them apart.
mircea_popescu: noyhing better than a door protected by 8 flawed locks.
asciilifeform: hence the recent interest in 'what happens to crypto when single-event fault' etc
asciilifeform: ( if your cryptotron ~branches~ -- potentially very interesting things happen )
mircea_popescu: would matter a lot more if the us actually used crypto.
asciilifeform: they use plenty of 'crypto'
mircea_popescu: somehow crypto discipline is impossible for military staffs. except for the okw, everyone has trouble with it, be the soviets talking to sub base or the ustards talking totheir "socialites" or w/e they call the tired old bags.
mircea_popescu: i have nfi why or wherefore, it's about as counterintuitive as the coy behaviour in females.
asciilifeform: senile old brezhnevs insisting on using plain vs crypto pnoje , yes. tho i was thinking of crypto in weapons systems and other unattended 'get magic packet, detonate' items.
mircea_popescu: to explain ourselves : the coy behaviour is defined as the spurious pretense of sexual disinterest put forth by a universally-interested machine ; and it is counterproductive because while it does in fact increase (somewhat) the success with above-average value partners, it entirely ruins any perpsective of success with the highest value partners. that this may (arguable, and i doubt it) sum to positive over a larege populati
mircea_popescu: on fails to overshadow the fact that individually speaking if you're going to sink nine months of blood + three of fat into the project, you totally fucking want the very very best available.
asciilifeform: ( in the 'detonate' case, it isn't clear what enemy gets from reversing your die if you used correctly-built publickeytronics )
mircea_popescu: now, the generals are similar : for the benefit of "oh, it's directly readable" they lose out on the all-important, paramount consideration, "but not by the enemmy"
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform i suspect the logical conclusion would be to say old men revert into dysfunctional womanhood.
asciilifeform: this is ancient observation
asciilifeform: incl. in old trilema
mircea_popescu: i guess it is, at that.
mircea_popescu: "sack all o10 and over that no longer have a supermodel mistress"
mircea_popescu: it's inexplicable, to me at least, how virility is not part of the army qualifying list, btw. "this dude does not look hot naked and therefore can no longer be an army general. retired." seems perfectly mandatory for a fucking army.
asciilifeform: sadly the head gives out 1st.
mircea_popescu: it's a crapshot. sometimes, last. sometimes, first.
asciilifeform: ( and in many of these 'great leaders' , head was not the strongest organ to begin with )
mircea_popescu: well... military men. it's like a profession. if your tax accountant sucks at go that doesn't necessarily disqualify him from his line of work.
asciilifeform digs, but fails to find link , re incident where jp attaches taught go to the german general staff, and they actually played, until the house with the boards was destroyed in bombing raid
asciilifeform: there was even some interest in usa, 'learn the game that built the strategy of the enemy!11' lulz
ben_vulpes: at least in usg, "fighting readiness" is both sexist and racist
asciilifeform: ben_vulpes: in any case it hasn't applied to generals ever since they stopped being expected to lead men on horseback into attack
asciilifeform: modern general sits, wizened lbj, in bunker.
ben_vulpes: modern infantryman sits, pimply snowden, driving 'big dog' from same
asciilifeform: this'd be so if the army in the colour brochures were the actual usg army
asciilifeform: as it is it barely can afford trucks that dun leak oil, much less any quantity of 'bigdog'
asciilifeform: the fancy hardware that exists, is largely circa 1980s.
asciilifeform: actually very closely resembles nazi army . yes, somewhere there is dr von braun with wunderwaffen. but mostly it's d00dz with old rifles.
ben_vulpes: predator and phriendz seem to work fine, so long as nobody's spoofing gps
ben_vulpes: but yes, this is 'leaking oil'
asciilifeform: worx great against defenseless camels.
asciilifeform: ( 1940s-era propeller fighters also would. but these cost moar money, and you gotta train somebody to fly, etc )

ben_vulpes: ang-st: anyways, the way this place works is that you register a gpg key with deedbot, and then maybe someone gives you provisional membership in the list of folks that can give themselves speaking privileges
ben_vulpes: good idea to do that sooner rather than later; provisional ratings are easy to come by for the newcomer who registers quickly, less so for the obstinate/self-important

mircea_popescu: ang-st protection from whatever soi-dissant "government" or whatever is not being contemplated at any point. what is being contemplated is not protecting the pretend-government itself from its own actions. so if it steals a box, that's fine, we shall say "the so and so illegitimate criminal gang stole so and so republican property" and that's that. no us-style "secrecy" is the whole story.
mircea_popescu: at this phase, interdicting the socialist mind's self-misrepresentations is quite sufficient.
mircea_popescu: also support is not sought, i don't think, if by support you mean manpower as opposed to you know, cooling. (if the latter, there's really 0 interest in a "best effort dc / someone's house".)
mircea_popescu: what'd those volunteers do ?
asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: very, very basic 'support' can't really be gone without -- 'pull disk #5 and put this-here that i mailed you in', 'tell this new box its ip', 'yank the box and mail to me, i'm going home' etc.
