asciilifeform: jfw: interesting. looking fwd to reading yours (and trinque's) observations re the thing. (i also dug in it recently, but 100% with aim of getting minimal mips liftoff, which i did; but bare-board, i.e. w/out any libc, in that case, and the item remains a mess)
trinque: asciilifeform: far less messy item is incoming in a few days
trinque: which will just take the triple you want to build for as an argument, shit down a static toolchain in /opt/toolchain/$TRIPLE
asciilifeform: trinque: neato, will test. fwiw ave1's (on my system at least) did build a static x64 and arm set of self (i.e. when copied to the respective boxen, they ran)
trinque: ran ldd on the bins though?
trinque: I'm totally willing to believe it worked at some poinot
trinque: *point
trinque: but, it didn't for me, and I was only willing to expend so much autism budget to read those bashwads before producing smaller ones was deemed cheaper
asciilifeform: did run ldd; did not see dynamism (tho it is possible that it dloads at runtime or some other such atrocity)
trinque: there's a whole plugin architecture built into ld for example, ran into idiocy where it wanted to "load a plugin"
trinque: for "lto"
trinque: iirc "link-time optimization"
asciilifeform: ughnasty
asciilifeform: ftr (and possibly i mentioned prev.) the arm crossbuild won't build self, barfs
asciilifeform: (i.e. when planted on rk and asked to build self)
trinque: will have to give that a try next; I'm interested in an arm toolchain myself.
trinque: anyhow this is not a commentary on ave1 sucks, as mentioned elsewhere.
trinque: only that this ratchet isn't done tightening.
asciilifeform: afaik he very lightly modified adacorpse's thing
trinque: any self-hosting OS needs utterly reliable self-hosted toolchain first
trinque: was some shithub guy actually
trinque: or maybe he's an adacore derp on shithub, didn't care to delve more
asciilifeform: fwiw i tested his (or he found in wild? nfi) 'bare x64 board' patches. they indeed allow to build executable w/out libc (if yer ada proggy knows how to i/o by itself) .
asciilifeform: i wanted this for a crackpottery where e.g. ada bootloader, potential gnat for dos, etc
trinque: I assume on top p, not at all crackpottery.
asciilifeform: aim there is to bring up peh on raw x64 iron, drive via serial port.
asciilifeform bbl, meat
