BingoBoingo: asciilifeform mod6: I plan to return and SSH into the box.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: What remains are all the rails, misc unused adapters and more USB TTYLs, The Rockchip plant, a small mountain of power and network cables, the rackmount power strip, the two switches, and the following 1U servers that will need wheeled out:
BingoBoingo: TBF/Mod6, Trinque, UY1/Shared Hosting, S.NSA vacant
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: try to get the machines out. errything else after. don't break yer back tho.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: until what day exactly is the rack paid up ?
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: It should be paid up through the end of this month per my notes. Then there's + 7 business days, etc, etc per the contract.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: ok. next wheelbarrow plox to rescue trinque and mod6 . then the rest, when you can.
BingoBoingo: <asciilifeform> BingoBoingo: try to get the machines out. errything else after. don't break yer back tho. << Three machines in one trip with wheels went well enough 4 should not be a problem. Without wheels, I am contemplating the logistics as we speak
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: the sooner you officially stop the service, the moar likely can recover sumthing from the orcs. tho , as mp pointed out, it is difficult to picture that we'll see a penny
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Next dive I want to recover mod6's data, whatever fits in the mochila that isn't the switches or power cables. Then I plan to ask for access to the door for wheels.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: bring the gurl or somebody trusted and hand-carry'em if you must.
asciilifeform: nuffin in that rack weighs moar than a roman legionary's kit. theoretically even 1 can carry.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Tonight it is too late to get the cardless girl into the building, but yes I am trying to think of something that will make the servers ergonomic enough to carry. Legionaire's kit is meant to be worn. Server meant to be densly racked. The potential to drop a chassis more than anything is what gives me pause.
asciilifeform: diana_coman: here is how FGs went in machine, if this helps. if that space aint there (and in most boxes, in asciilifeform's experience, it aint) then can only put'em by e.g. forgoing raid card and using that space. or in 5in. disk slot (which most also lack.)
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: aite. but ideally all the irons will be safely under BingoBoingo's bed tomorrow.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Ideally tomorrow they will all be in the habitation module. If recovering the boxes is hindered, THAT, the hindering, is actionable.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: seems liek already been some hindering today ?
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: if busibodies pop outta that woodwork to hinder, get'em on camera.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Latecho hasn't done any hidnering today. Just the lobby tile police.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i fully expect that when you show up to tear up the contract, they'll try to cook up some bullshit re the cage being in arrears . hence wai important to empty it.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: dun have to answer this if aint ready yet, but have you had chance to think , where BingoBoingo will go next ?
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Per the contract the cage would have to be in arrears 30 days or longer before they can suspend service, deny access, etc
asciilifeform: well, per the contract there was also gonna be a working pipe!
asciilifeform: seems that contract atm is in '1 direction' mode, american-style, where 'you owe, and we -- uhm, nuffin'
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: also you'll want to at least attempt to get that security deposit back.
asciilifeform: !Qlater tell mod6 you presently majority shareholder. asciilifeform -- minority. ( mp is owed and also rightfully has a say. ) let's discuss asap the lawsuit.
lobbesbot: asciilifeform: The operation succeeded.
ericbot: Logged on 2019-10-08 15:01:51 mp_en_viaje: ah yes, they do owe us some money, but i wasn't converted afaik.
asciilifeform: ftr asciilifeform is in favour of using as much of the remaining piggy as BingoBoingo sees fit , in taking it as far as it can be made to go.
asciilifeform: at the VERY least oughta recover the week+ of dud service + security dep.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Per my records in the months after they said to stop sending more money for a while, after MP's big incoming wire via Mocky, we spent down much of the security deposit as BTC price was low.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: what means 'much' ? i.e. all ?
BingoBoingo goes for the statement
asciilifeform: (re piggy -- dun fughet, BingoBoingo , that we also will have to issue refunds to people who had refueled and then had ??? instead of reachable boxes for week+ )
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Right, that's customer equity
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: 1538.58
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: spent ? or remains ?
asciilifeform: this re sec deposit ?
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: It's the odd balance that remains from security deposit/mega bolus going into the datacenter last fall
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: that's genuine money.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: And it is to be pursued.
asciilifeform: re customers, yes would rather give'em working boxes, but will have to be refund.
ericbot: Logged on 2018-07-24 12:38:09 asciilifeform: oblig su joak : division commander notices that maxim gun emplacement has fallen silent. he walks over , 'comrade gunner, why is your maxim silent' gunner : 'comrade lieutenant, i've run through my belt' lieutenant : 'BUT YOUR ARE A COMMUNIST!' ... the maxim promptly begins to chatter again !
mod6: <+BingoBoingo> asciilifeform mod6: I plan to return and SSH into the box. << Thanks BB!

ericbot: Logged on 2019-10-08 15:01:51 mp_en_viaje: ah yes, they do owe us some money, but i wasn't converted afaik.
BingoBoingo: mod6: If you can give me guidance on what directories you want, that will be helpful. Even downloading straight from the local switch, the whole blockchain is going to take time, and space.
mod6: <+asciilifeform> mod6: why wouldja want the raid card but not the whole box ? << Perhaps a bit premature to ask for this. Let's see if BB can get the back up completed, then will decide on whether to sell the box or have it shipped back whole, or parts.
asciilifeform: mod6: yer unlikely to get ~anyffin for it if sold in orcistan.
mod6: BingoBoingo: The directories are listed in my pgp msg.
mod6: asciilifeform: fair enough. we'll see, one step at a time.
asciilifeform: mod6: if you paid moar than coupla hundy for it, prolly worth to get it back via the post.
asciilifeform: can then colo somewhere, in the new era of 'erry man for himself' colos.
BingoBoingo: mod6: Aite, I see it now.
mod6: *thumbsup*
mod6: asciilifeform: werd.
asciilifeform: btw if anyone doesn't want his box, i'll buy it (undisked naturally) for cost of postage.
asciilifeform: i suppose oughta proper auction.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: His is not of you're preferred type of box
asciilifeform: supposing in fact someone decides to jettison a box(s) .
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: even so.
asciilifeform: orc market aint payin' squat for boxes, i suspect.
mod6: re: lawsuit, i've been following along here since the onset of this. I get the overall sense that not much may come of it, and similar to what MP was saying, would have been helpful to have some attourney long ago, as opposed to now. Especially regarding the fact that we've been getting screwed for years. A judgement might only consist of some repayment for recent month.
mod6: However, I'm not closing the door on the whole thing. We'll have to evaluate our liabilities to our customers, cash on hand, who would be owed what, etc.
asciilifeform: mod6: orc attourneys i suspect dun charge megabux. but imho worth to find what'd cost. perhaps even 1 would work on contingency, and then only costs to feed BingoBoingo .
mod6: It may not be a bad idea to look into. I just, for what its worth, have my doubts that much comes of it.
asciilifeform: mod6: i also doubt. but imho worth to at least find what'd cost .
BingoBoingo: On some level once the auditions to see if any lawyers are hungrier than present counsel are concluded, if a suit isn't feasible counsel may be necessary to cleanly send the contract to /dev/null should latecho get combative
BingoBoingo: Even though the contract nearly made it to term, it's still a liability attached to my name personally.
asciilifeform: mod6: since BingoBoingo apparently wishes to stay in uruguayistan, gotta cleanly nuke the contract.
mod6: Well, so the way I see it: On the off chance that we'd win some sort of judgement, even if the courts are expedient, and I doubt that they are; We should continue on our current path. Pay what ever we need to pay back to customers out of what we have on-hand, make shipments, what have you. Then if there is cash left over, make a decision at that time.
asciilifeform: mod6: i dun expect that postage for boxen, or 1wk of refund, will eat anywhere close to whole piggy.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: I've still not had time to contemplate anywhere that might be better in the near to mid term.
asciilifeform: mod6: and the sooner contract is finished with, the moar will remain.
mod6: asciilifeform: that's decent news. but still, we should proceed with our customers needs first. then, possibly, see what we can do for Pizarro.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: dun panic. asciilifeform simply would like to apply the necessary heat so as e.g. the sec deposit dun evaporate .
asciilifeform: i agree re mod6's '1st evacuate boxen'.
BingoBoingo: Now, one thing we do need is some sort of ftp server we can use to get shared hosting customers GPG'd tarballs with their files and databases
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i'd offer to host , but, lol, haven't where
BingoBoingo: I imagine RockChip customers as well may need some files
asciilifeform: if no one comes up with where, i'ma get hold of a cheap heathen thing, they're gpgballs, ought not matter where to put.
asciilifeform: mod6: currently i'm thinking, we do not need 'liquidator' a la bbet. we, ourselves, can properly play the orchestra as the ship goes down.
BingoBoingo: On the plus side we do have everyone's ssh pubkeys so we don't have to put up for all comers even though GPG'd
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i'd rather not put those on a heathen hoster, but let's ask the affected folx 1st.
mod6: asciilifeform: Well, that ~might~ be true. We ought to proceed though with careful steps to ensure we don't overlook something; we need to ensure that everyone is settled correctly, accurately. Having some oversight from mircea_popescu on this will be good.
asciilifeform: seems like the only 1 who hasn't yet come up for air is trinque .
asciilifeform: mod6: mp has been providing a++ guru meditation. i expect will say moar.
mod6: for sure, glad he's been able to give his guidence.
asciilifeform: and yes errybody is to get back 1) data 2) coin 3) iron, in that order.
mod6: i'd say that's the correct approach.
asciilifeform: fwiw asciilifeform had a heathen isp close on him 2y ago. had no (3) personally owned in it, but never saw an lick of (1) or (2) .
asciilifeform: we are to set a proper standard, imho, for seppuku.
mod6: the latter half of that previous line didn't quite parse for me. care to expand on that a bit?
asciilifeform: mod6: clean unwind is sumthing the heathens dun know how.
asciilifeform: they tend to leave disgusting messes.
mod6: ah, gotcha. but 3 people, or 3 boxen?
asciilifeform: (3) i.e. irons
mod6: ah, i see.
asciilifeform: it was a leased irons isp rather than colo
asciilifeform: dc was bought out (presumably 'to make netflix cache' tho i dun specifically know its fate) and all subscribers hung to dry.
mod6: ugh. :/
mod6: One sec, brb.
mod6: aight.
asciilifeform: mod6: it presently seems that we do not disagree .
mod6: yeah, seems like we're on the same page.
mod6: was just looking for trinque's last transmission. seems like it was the 4th.
asciilifeform: but, mod6 , if at any point you find that you take a difference to asciilifeform's method of conducting the orchestra plox to asap say .
ericbot: Logged on 2019-10-07 20:22:43 asciilifeform: asciilifeform, otoh, did the equiv of when folx w/ no medical education attempt a tracheotomy on choking patient. cuz nobody else was about to.

asciilifeform: ^ indeed
asciilifeform: hopefully comes in soon .
asciilifeform: ( 3rd, 4th, whothefuck knows what the clock's set to on any of these )
mod6: asciilifeform: will do. i think when '1,2,3' (above) are done, we can re-visit and see what makes sense.
asciilifeform: ty mod6 .
mod6: and, yah, maybe we ought to send him an email?
asciilifeform: mod6: i expect he'll come back from sea or wherever he is before week is out, seems to do so regularly nowadays.
mod6: fair enough.
asciilifeform: mod6: unrelatedly, were you able to make contact with ben_vulpes at all ?
mod6: He asked us to leave him dead, so I've been respecting that. Until like 3 minutes ago. I just tried to poke him re: trinque.
asciilifeform: mod6: this is problem. per charter .
mod6: If/when I get a chance to discuss tbf with him, I'll see what he has to say. But my guess is he'd probably just like us to replace him as needed.
asciilifeform: incidentally i dun agree w/ mp's verdict that tbf is somehow broken (aside from 1 of the 2 chairs having gone awol.) charter reads, clearly, 'This charter establishes the existence of a virtual organization whose mission is to maintain the Bitcoin reference implementation.' this was carried out .
mod6: We'll really need to discuss the whole thing at length too. It's not yet fully determined what'll happen to tbf. But mircea_popescu has thrown out a few ideas. I doubt I'll be involved in whatever comes next for it though.
asciilifeform: there is nuffin in the charter regarding e.g. carrying out propaganda, or even the building of noades. (tho both imho are Right Thing)
asciilifeform: mod6: why not want to be involved ?
asciilifeform: maybe i'm alone in this, but i don't hold against mod6 that he was breaking his back in a salt mine.
mod6: Well, correct, I've stated that I think I've done the duty as spelled out in the Charter. It's well impressed on me that tbf needs new direction and new blood.
asciilifeform: nao asciilifeform is no one in tbf. but will be sad if it comes to be the case that there is no tbf to fund emplacements of noades, curation of the ref. trb (incl. mod6's very fine build system) .
asciilifeform: imho these are the fundamentals, without which all other adventures pertaining to trb (e.g. propaganda) are meaningless.
BingoBoingo to the basement on the mod6 mission
mod6: I would like to see trb carry-on indeed. Now, perhaps, more than ever, is needed as a check against wild shitcoiners out there.
mod6: BingoBoingo: cheers!
asciilifeform: mod6: imho it is only because we have trb, that other meaningful work has what to breathe.
mod6: But alas, The Foundation has some greater goals than simply trb itself. TRB can be one facet of this, but new blood will need to take the ship in a direction of outreach.
asciilifeform: mod6: new blood imho ought to then amend the charter.
mod6: I agree, there should be a new one drawn up for whomever should take the helm.
asciilifeform: ( maybe only i take these seriously ? but imho such documents ought to represent reality )
mod6: For me, I won't have a fief to preside over, but maybe I'll still submit trb related work.
asciilifeform: mod6: i'ma submit for so long as anyone cares to read.
asciilifeform: mod6: for instance, i have a gnatistic o(1) block db thing, that's a gnat bugfix away from battle tests.
mod6: I have a whole list of things I wanna do; actually. Like, finally spend the time I need on all things FFA.
asciilifeform: mod6: as i understand you recently escaped gulag. so perhaps nao can do.
asciilifeform: mod6: if you start to study ffa, dun hesitate to ask asciilifeform to help as you go in.
mod6: There is a lot of work re: trb that does need to be done too. Another thing that was nagging at me... if we're to have a "university", we also need materials. And technical materials can be 'trb' coad itself; however, it might be cool to have an annotated source.
mod6: Maybe even in book form some day.
asciilifeform himself 'studying ffa' , load it again into head !
ossabot: Logged on 2019-10-08 17:45:48 asciilifeform: lobbes: speaking strictly for self -- 'quick' jobs are quick because they (incl. 'fit problem in head' phase) can be fit into a single slot in b/w salt mine idjicies. whereas things large enuff as not fit, much moar friction. (erry time must load it in... again, again, ... )
mod6: Not committed or married to the idea, but I've been trying to think about what I might want to spend my time on.
asciilifeform: mod6: annotation of trb is a+++ Right Thing imho.
asciilifeform: esp. in such a way as to produce a spec that can then be worked from.
asciilifeform: the heathens sorta tried to do this, but in the usual heathen way simply shat in their pants.
mod6: Yeah, for TRB/TRBi to improve, or take form, one needs to fully comprehend what it is we have, this thing called 'bitcoin'.
mod6: Materials for study are necessary, and the logs yield quite a tale, but something consolidated would help.
asciilifeform: mod6: i dare to say that no one 100% comprehends (not the protocol per se, i comprehend) but the entire behaviour space of the proggy per se.
mod6: I would agree with you on that. In this chamber, I do find quite a depth of knowledge. It is, however, spread across a handful of people.
asciilifeform: to take 1 example, is there a max reorg depth that still worx as expected ?
asciilifeform: no one presently knows afaik.
mod6: Right, it's a old question, and a good one.
mod6: Lot's of questions need to be asked such as this, and their answers, ugly or not, need to be found.
asciilifeform: or, to take another, what will happen if a 'nonfinal' tx is again mined ?
asciilifeform: or... i've a bunch of these.
mod6: lol, werd. it's all important, indeed.
asciilifeform: mod6: importantly, tho, most of this horror aint relevant to 'trbi'
mod6: Heck, write 'em down and post 'em for future review.
asciilifeform: is only relevant to people who want to build trb-compat. mechanism from ground.
asciilifeform: for this, the biggest afaik hole in what is known, is how the idjit ssl-guts crypto stack operates.
asciilifeform: even the 'der' parser, i presently have nfi how worx.
mod6: yeah, it's a shitshow
asciilifeform: but again this is only interesting if one's building a '100% trb-compat' in e.g. ada.
asciilifeform: for a novel 'trbi' is entirely uninteresting what or how did fucking openssl.
mod6: <+asciilifeform> mod6: if you start to study ffa, dun hesitate to ask asciilifeform to help as you go in. << will do!
asciilifeform: mod6: incidentally imho diana_coman 1) understands it about as well as asciilifeform 2) is a+++ pedagogue .
mod6: Yeah, she's pretty deep into the chapters iirc.
asciilifeform: i do not know whether diana_coman is still taking people into her school, but for a ffa n00b it is imho a very desirable school.
asciilifeform: mod6: diana_coman has eaten all of the material to date.
mod6: Ah! Tight.
mod6: Also, told bv to tap trinque on the shoulder.
mod6: And mentioned that if he wants to, he can stop by for a nomination to the co-chair.
asciilifeform: perhaps he still has a pulse, might answer.
mod6: We'll see
asciilifeform: but even if not answers, no pulse, 'the spice must flow'(tm)
mod6: THE SPICE MUST FLOW
mod6: I'm totally in the middle of Dune.
mod6: Was previously actually looking for a Kynes quote...
asciilifeform: imho it was a much better 'have-read' world to play in head with, than 'to-read' per se, 1 of those.
mod6: "'To the working planetologist, his most important tool is human beings,' his father said. 'You must cultivate ecological literacy among the people.'"
mod6: This I've sort-of applied to the sense that for actual humans, which we can sift-the-sand for, tbf/tmsr can cultivate bitcoin literacy.
asciilifeform: mod6: imho this , important -- what good is 'ref impl.' if no one understands it, or why even exists. i dun actually disagree w/ mp re 'needs public tentacles'.
mod6: *nod*
mod6: one sec, brb.
asciilifeform: but imho if actually maintaining the proggy dun come 1st, then what may end with is item resembling the pseudofoundation, which has lengthy tentacles but 0 grasp of the orig. item (not even enuff grasp to do seriously complex evil, for the most part.)
mod6: Both are important, ofc.

lobbes: enjoy the meats fellas
lobbes: asciilifeform: main reason for not wanting to host it on usg box is mainly because logger is also running on there and a) don't want too many eggs in one basket and b) don't want too many things interfacing with same postgres database (since actionbot is on top of logbot which also logs every line, and I dunno if this will slow things down or what. I like the idea of segregating them in this sense)

mp_en_viaje: asciilifeform, i suspect you're missing the finer point here.
asciilifeform: aint 'phd' either. but not quite 'buy from any flea market, wtf, phd assembly line, derp'

mp_en_viaje: and yes, people who are into her face can only be satisfied by her
mp_en_viaje: but because they who are so requiring ARE FEW, the aggregating effects of mass market STILL apply.
BingoBoingo gets that a point that seems to be datacenter tech'ing is the one of the few things for which Republic needs meat soldier
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: indeed they do
mp_en_viaje: BingoBoingo, wasn't what i was saying here.
mp_en_viaje: i think ~for you, personally~, such as you are and irrespective of outside considerations, dc tech may be the best career path.
mp_en_viaje: i can go into detail if you wish
asciilifeform: it beats rabbit farming , imho
BingoBoingo: If you go into detail I will appreciate and read.
mp_en_viaje: alright, let's see.
mp_en_viaje: the difference between dc tech and barrista is that dc tech MUST show up EVERY TIME. can't hit the snooze. is rather like surgeon in this respect. this -- you do.
mp_en_viaje: the difference between dc tech and oncologist is that what dc tech must know is 1/100 the volume. very similar sort of inexpressible minutia, but not requires 15+ years of direct practice. bright student can catch up in 6 to 9 mo
mp_en_viaje: the difference between dc tech and platoonleader is that dc tech need not situational awareness, possibly your weakest spot. has a boss, who tells him exactly what to do EACH time all the time no exceptions forever.
mp_en_viaje: these for the positive. for the negative, you managed to live in dc without hamhandling any cables / runing things with hooves / etc.
mp_en_viaje: this is pretty much the whole bar. i can think of no other professional line where this particular mix of dedication, greenishness and blindsidedness is equally adequate. and certainly of no better paying one.
BingoBoingo: mp_en_viaje: Thank you
mp_en_viaje: the only other similar thing is trucking, but imo that's poison for you, because too many people do it so it's been well colonized by specific preditors that are effectual enough.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: gotta ask, why couldn't he, e.g. fix motorcycles ? also work for good hands, and unlike salaried tech ( asciilifeform did a 2y+ tour of duty as just-this when was starving ) open-ended vol. of biz
mp_en_viaje: because he'll make some idiot friends and start doing stupid shit instead.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Motorcycles are a dying niche on the high end. Low end is all products of india.
BingoBoingo: Also that
asciilifeform: but won't make idjit friends in a dc ?
mp_en_viaje: won't make any, i don't expect.
asciilifeform pictures BingoBoingo conscripted into latech
mp_en_viaje: the ONE important thing is to latch on a dc that's run by a guy, quite like that mivo dude, and not by a retarded ugiistanism, "corporation"
asciilifeform: btw is it known that maxim of mivo actually runs the dc ?
mp_en_viaje: makes little diff, just the personality signature's right. like that douchebag dood or w/e, if trinque ran a dc i'd pack you tonight.
asciilifeform: re 'run by a guy' -- these dun seem to exist in uy
mp_en_viaje: well, if they did was his job to find on your/my dime prior, in any case.
asciilifeform: it was !
asciilifeform: fwiw i'm satisfied that there's moar buried nazi gold to be found in uy than dc-run-by-guy but if mp_en_viaje not convinced , i haven't a counter
mp_en_viaje: i believe.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: By all appearances Latecho can't pay Uruguayos, and I did make their surviving sales and telecom managers pale this week. Guy seems to have gone oldgendered coverting Latecho to low investment netflix box pension
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i strongly suspect that that dc got 'colour revolution'-d but this not directly pertinent to thrd.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: imho mp_en_viaje has strong point.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje has sold me that datacenter tech is probably best career for me as I am today. Next obstacle is does any datacenter have the brains to take mp_en_viaje's recommendation with the necessary gravity.
asciilifeform: but afaik, you can't do this in uy.
mp_en_viaje: in any case, i can appreciate your wanting to stay, but it is possible uruguay not very good spot for you. could alternatively build that list of ixp's, start emailing cvs to all of them asking for employment. if get one, just tell the girl to come, odds are she will.
mp_en_viaje: vancouver is cold, but the pay's also better than whatever uruguay has to offer. rents&cost of living also higher, but odds are she doesn't comprehend that.
BingoBoingo: mp_en_viaje: Right. asciilifeform: The place to be emailing ISPs would be Uruguay or WTF? Imma pack twice?
mp_en_viaje: you can mail from your current chair, what's the impediment
asciilifeform: afaik the only ixp in uy is antel. but mp_en_viaje has it
mp_en_viaje: can also be frank with them, "look, i came to uy to get isp going, worked ok for 3 years, dc died from under us, i got a girl and must relocate asap"
mp_en_viaje: you'll get a lowball offer which you take and then pivot later.
BingoBoingo: <mp_en_viaje> you can mail from your current chair, what's the impediment << Just trying to squash the earlier "evac nao" hysterics
mp_en_viaje: "fuck you guise, i;m otta here" is for the sort of mobster-looking dude with a 10k usd brick in a steel clip in his pocket and iron packing escort grinning from over his shoulders.

BingoBoingo: Indeed
mp_en_viaje: unless your style is "go to that store, bring me one of everything", "get in the car, we're going" isn't the way to go.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: possibly asciilifeform has simplistic model of BingoBoingo -- i.e. ' BingoBoingo -- parachutist. what's a 2nd, 3rd, ..., jump, to parachutist !'

mp_en_viaje: o look, caught up with log.
mp_en_viaje: feats of strength&fortitude
mp_en_viaje: only 20k words today in 800 lines, what, a novel/day
asciilifeform orc bazar in 5m
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje, BingoBoingo , et al : bmore orcs actually pretty cheap , comparatively . promised written quote later today.
asciilifeform: for physical slots, that is, cheap. bw -- less cheap. they want 50 $ (usa) per 10Mb-sustained. ( and in fact boxen get plugged into a Gb/s port , and expected to ration selves , erry 10Mb/s/mo costs 50 , if somehow eat 100Mb/s/mo or equiv. weight, costs 500 ! )
asciilifeform: holes sold by 2u; each 2u comes w/ 320watt (at 220v)
asciilifeform: racks are kolhoz, if one buys less than whole rack, a d00d with a camera stands there while you fiddle in it.
asciilifeform: 2u hole costs per se 100 / mo (just mains current an' physical space) , net pipe is on top of this.
asciilifeform: ergo, minimal cost to house a single machine running at sustained 10Mb/s (very thin imho) is 150 $ us / mo ( + orctax ) .
asciilifeform: to open acct costs 125 .
asciilifeform: thing is in 1 of those concertina wire forts in bmore. 'expedient' corp. (never 1nce heard of it, but apparently nao monopoly in this fuckhole.)
asciilifeform: finally, there is no contract, it's a monthly thing.
BingoBoingo back with the 4 1 servers. Oscar ended up walking me out and asking if I'd checked that the IPs were opened back up again some time today.... to the powered down diskless rack. No notice had been provided that the IPs were restored. Told him I'd return and check from the one of the microservers. Will try to do so when I return to fill bags again.
mp_en_viaje: asciilifeform, honestly this sounds like a pretty decent deal.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: wd. ( yer gonna have to break the news to'em at some pt tho )
mp_en_viaje: ration selves is the ~only other commercial version you'll find besides "oh ddos" latech style
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: it's 'bout 3x less than i expected it'd cost
mp_en_viaje: 5k/gb seems very reasonable.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: appears to be.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: The news seems pretty broke already.
asciilifeform: also asciilifeform'd get ip via arin.
mp_en_viaje: also nice.
mp_en_viaje: so what do you dislike about it ?
asciilifeform: 0 charge 'per ip', could house e.g. rk orchestra.
mp_en_viaje: get a coupla c blocks to start with, distinct, and "raid" them.
mp_en_viaje: or more if possibru
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: dunno, i'm simply still not recovered from allergic choke from last go.
diana_coman: fwiw I just made my stock email telling them what I want and now sending it around with way less filtering (because there isn't much to filter); I expect there'll be some emails waiting for me tomorrow but dunno if anything positive.
asciilifeform: but seriously considering bmoreistan.
mp_en_viaje: do they have half or mini racks ?
asciilifeform: a:'how long would take for arin bureaucracy' bmore:'~week'
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: sold by 2u increment, hundy per.
asciilifeform: but full cage goes for 750.
mp_en_viaje: yes but to get whole cabinet. only full us ?
mp_en_viaje: so get a cage, ideal, can lock it.
asciilifeform: fella said it's expandable in <hr.
asciilifeform: 'get the 2u, come back for more'
asciilifeform: i specifically asked 'can come in, work on machines?' answr was '24/7, just put key in'
mp_en_viaje: it seems to be the case saving 20 bucks a day is not worth the "own rack" outlay
mp_en_viaje: besides, if this works out it finally gives you htat holy grail, of unassailable excuse to stay put
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: can you reformulate ?
mp_en_viaje: which ?
asciilifeform: atm not sure if makes sense to get these
mp_en_viaje: why not ?
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: atm seems that 'fill whole rack' is recipe for 'new piz'
asciilifeform: irresistible target for 'oops you've been dos'd' etc
mp_en_viaje: well, if they go south you drive over get boxes back. what of it
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: seems that if worth, worth to test w/ 1 or 2 pieces.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: ftr i also dunwant to end up in 'marriage' to this warehouse.
mp_en_viaje: maybe i misunderstand this, let's see
asciilifeform: ( to be fair to the orcs, they letcha cancel whenever , no indenture )
mp_en_viaje: you have option of either paying 3 bux day for sharing into someone else's rack, while someone stands over and films you ; or else pay 20 bux per day to own rack, which is 24u, ie 12times the size, and lock it as your own.
mp_en_viaje: this right ?
asciilifeform: this -- correct
mp_en_viaje: so i'd rather pay 20 than 3 for 8x the space and the ownership, what's difficult to digest ?

mp_en_viaje: why not ?
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: pauper.
mp_en_viaje: so ima send you one of nsa's coin, you trade it for whatever 8k it's worth, and not pauper no more.
asciilifeform hangs head in shame
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: bmore warehouse dun eat cash.
mp_en_viaje: get 24 u and a up to gb for 5k/mo, put allthe iron you have in there and there you go.
mp_en_viaje: you asked ?
mp_en_viaje: so put it on your cc.
asciilifeform: can try an' ask again.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: if we make 'discover working btc-to-usd in middle of fucking reich' part of this problem, will take long time.
asciilifeform: i aint got one.
mp_en_viaje: well looky, your conference call, inasmuch as it was predicated on "talk to dc about my soda & 2 large popcorn budget" was a waste of your time.
mp_en_viaje: 750/mo for rack + 5k for gbps pro rated is very reasonable an offer, i'd take it.
mp_en_viaje: if you can't take it why even bother calling, what did you expect they'd say, "19.95" ?
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: can reliably put 4-5hundy w/out problems, from asciilifeform's daily racket. and thought we were orig. discussing 'could house 1u?' . but if not mp_en_viaje-grade, then waht can do.
mp_en_viaje: oh, so if it was your private one box thing then why in here lol
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: expected ~400-500 for coupla holes, apparently can haz.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: idea was, uy1, or dulap, etc.
asciilifeform: why wouldja want all of'em in 1rack again?!
mp_en_viaje: i didn't want all of those in 1 rack.
diana_coman: asciilifeform: the way I see it is that one wants 1 rack just like one wants own bathroom; ie not to share.
mp_en_viaje: you have this very self-defeating way of being "conservative"
mp_en_viaje: it's stupid, and i want no part of it.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: you forgot 'stop being poor, fucktard'
mp_en_viaje: you're not even poor, you're just weird.
mp_en_viaje: not like eg nsa can't afford all this.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: i dun know how to turn btc into us-cc.
mp_en_viaje has no problem putting the above on nsa's monthly report ; and if indeed all the noises you make about having iron (that you "can't inventory" until "you dispose of the garbage, cuz totally, that's how inventories are made, can't enumerate the jewels for lack of having expelled the piocket lint),
mp_en_viaje: this'd be a perfect opportunity to put all that to work, also.
mp_en_viaje: but i can't ever decide with you if miles gloriosus, talks of gf as "pets", plural, because why not, boihood chorus, or genuine misrepresented fellow, has all sorta things doesnt know how to put to work.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: other thing, whole cage may be 750, but bw for a rack's wortha boxen would be coupla k/m
mp_en_viaje: what size cage ?
mp_en_viaje: i am now confused.
mp_en_viaje: so what is sold for 750/mo ?
asciilifeform: physical cabinet + mains current, 1.2amp / 220v per 2u ration.
mp_en_viaje: and so what is the problem in getting it ?
asciilifeform: once start to fill it, pipe costs substantial .
mp_en_viaje: dude, i already said, wtf. <mp_en_viaje> get 24 u and a up to gb for 5k/mo, put allthe iron you have in there and there you go.
asciilifeform: where is asciilifeform to get 5+k/mo ?
mp_en_viaje: a coin's worth two of those.
ericbot: Logged on 2019-10-09 20:14:01 asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: i dun know how to turn btc into us-cc.
mp_en_viaje: look, paying 5k for gbps is not substantial. much like paying 1mn for 300 working mercedeses not substantial.
asciilifeform: no i get it, it's ~market rate.
mp_en_viaje: so figure it out, make yourself useful.
asciilifeform: it aint a bad price.
mp_en_viaje: lobbes, can you help this fellow out of paper bag ?
mp_en_viaje: or whoever lives thereabouts and not yet beheaded ? afaik lobbes last head left attached.
asciilifeform: if lobbes knows how to do this, i'ma take off hat and do it w/ lobbes .
mp_en_viaje: and make a fucking inventory already, "alf's list of the most-likelky-to-be-worth-racking 24 u items currently in his warehouse"
mp_en_viaje: actually make it ~36 or so u long, so there's some choice.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: the only rackable i have in stock here is the rktron.
mp_en_viaje: really ?
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: lol unless you want some 486 racked..
mp_en_viaje: so you don't actually have electronics besides vintage/garbage about ?
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: in your conception of 'electronics' -- apparently not
asciilifeform: what , did mp_en_viaje think asciilifeform was sitting on top of a dc ?!
mp_en_viaje: "my conception" ie, rackworthy ?
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: it'd depend what's rackworthy ! but in asciilifeform's eyes, not errything with a cpu in it is 'rackworthy'
asciilifeform: just like not erry tub in kitchen is 'seaworthy'
mp_en_viaje: yes, honestly, i had formed the impression that after years of perusing the penny-to-dollar electronic surplus stores you amassed a large collection of perfectly serviceable parts, that could in a pinch produce a cabinets worth of servers. i did.
mp_en_viaje: and that this pile, inter alia, is why you're stil lthe fuck there in the first place.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: 'unsexies' e.g. oscilloscopes, do 0 for racks
mp_en_viaje: so you're more of an electrician than a computer scientist, the bulk of your garbage trove is in fact unrelated to computing as such
mp_en_viaje: you have textile looms and period exhaust pipes from the carbureted days of yore.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: depends, do items like this -- 'electrician' or komoyooting ?
mp_en_viaje: an earlier inventory could've saved me the internal misrepresentation.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: you think i'd sit on a rack's worth of comp and not say ?
mp_en_viaje: aite, so if you're not in the business of being in business, you're not, what can i tell you.
mp_en_viaje: this'd have been excellent op to recapitalize.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: i dun have a surgical theatre either. nor milking machines. i was never attempting to fill a dc, until piz.
mp_en_viaje: i thought you jsut bought shit because it was cheap / you liked it, in lieu of saving or w/e. nfi what the fuck you're doing, i confess the more i talk to you, the less i understand.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: i have a www. since '07. was even under impression that mp_en_viaje occasionally read it.
asciilifeform: what is pictured there ? 'my dragon hoard of dc-waiting-for-rack' ?
mp_en_viaje: in so many words, yes.
asciilifeform boggled.
mp_en_viaje: what can i tell you.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: worse, all of this aint even the hard part, in usa can get any kinda rackables for ~lunchmoney
mp_en_viaje: anyway, the proposition of buing new, off eggazon w/e, to fill a rack significantly less appealing.
mp_en_viaje: here he goes again.
asciilifeform: i never bought'em new.
mp_en_viaje: i suspect the problem is your constant confusion between "could" and "did"
mp_en_viaje: asciilifeform, you just said you never bought AT ALL.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: bought the piz inhabitants, neh.
mp_en_viaje: okay...
asciilifeform: (didn't pull'em from arse, no)
mp_en_viaje: i also thought you pulled those from warehouse, myself.
mp_en_viaje: not 100%, but a majority.
asciilifeform: srsly?!
asciilifeform: mno, was discussed in painfully pedantic detail, compl. w/ links to the people from whom bought.
asciilifeform: were 1-1.5k ea.
asciilifeform: (1.5 incl diskage, disks bought new cuz wtf, used toothbrushes)
mp_en_viaje: so let me get this straight. you do not in fact own 100k worth of rackable motherboards + cpu assemblages ; but you do all the while own ~20k worth of legacy symbolics hardware.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: 5 of bolix (not partic. relevant, does someone want ~that~ racked?!)
mp_en_viaje: can i get yes/no ?
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: i dun own 100k of anyffin, dun think.
asciilifeform: not even organs.
mp_en_viaje: so let me get this straight. you do not in fact own 100k worth of rackable motherboards + cpu assemblages ; but you do all the while own ~20k worth of legacy symbolics hardware.
asciilifeform: 1) defo nope 2) 1 single bolix.
mp_en_viaje: i thought you had multiple chips + boards + other junk related.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: 16 ( 17, incl desk test bed ) rk. + a room fulla laboratory gear, such as is kept by fella who never even in nightmare pictured to run a dc.
mp_en_viaje: dude nevermind.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: i aint got a comp warehouse ! and moreover have nfi why mp_en_viaje thought -- did.
mp_en_viaje: do you or do you not currently posses and are the owner of a number of cpus made by defunct symbolics co ; a number of pcbs made by defunct symbolics co ; a number of other just as useless paraphenalia made by just as defunct same co
asciilifeform: i dun warehouse wheels of cheese either
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: handful of said cpu + 1 working machine is all i got re these.
mp_en_viaje: and the market value of this handful of cpus + working mchine comes to ?
asciilifeform: what's useless , and what aint, depends from who pov. for building a piz-style dc -- 100% useless. and btw asciilifeform already, i thought, killed 1 dc, why would mp_en_viaje even consider to put'im in another.
mp_en_viaje: yes, yes. but the dollar value of said arguably useless or not useless pile of old junk you can't currently use would be...
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: i'd say nomoar than 5k will be paid for it at the auction when im hanged.
mp_en_viaje: nevermind that. if you put it on amazon today you'd BIY for...
mp_en_viaje: multiple symbolics cpus, i thought those went for 2-3k ea.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: you already said 5x 'useless', can say 6 if you like, but i get
mp_en_viaje: whole bolix, i thought that's more like 7k+ these days.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: whole bolix cost me 5. cpu was briefly sold for 450/ea, nao absent entirely from market.
mp_en_viaje: whatevers. my question will stand as "so you do not in fact own 100k worth of rackable severs, but you do own 20k worth of unrackable memorabilia, which you inexplicably misvalue at 5k for some reason that's obviously this conversation and the outcomes yu want to see from it".
mp_en_viaje: whatever. all this begs the question "how the fuck did you get your inventory manager to approve this insanity of outlay". with the self-obvious answer that "i am said manager myself, and i am known for my managerial acumen"
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: why it is even interesting to ask about what unrackables asciilifeform owns ? my toyota also aint rackable.
asciilifeform: equally 'useless'.
mp_en_viaje: anwyays. people judge likeliness by some sort of grille. mine comes pre-populated with sanity promoting assumptions that are build through interacting with business not with collectors. consequently, all sort of conclusions can be derived that evidently do not bear out in practice.
mp_en_viaje: but no small part of why i thought you had so and so is because you have others thus and following. i expect the man with 100k worth of car to have 1k worth of gas, i expect the man with egitheen slavegirls to have 20+ rooms, that sorta thing
asciilifeform: how about man with 1k of car ?
mp_en_viaje: i dunno, 20 bucks of gas and an outstanding speeding fine.
asciilifeform: i think i figured it out, mp_en_viaje still thinks asciilifeform is seekritly loaded and simply intransigent
mp_en_viaje: 100k of gear in your life-dedication field is very far from loaded.
mp_en_viaje: i'd also expect 30yo boat-lifer to own ~100k worth of boat. and 30yo golf pro to own ~100k worth of golf gear.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje: asciilifeform might be intransigent, but aint a liar. i dun got 100k of any.
mp_en_viaje: and 30yo concert musician to own, if not necessarily 100k worth of violin, then definitely 100k worth of violin if HE PLAYS THE VIOLIN, and twice so if he has a collection of antique panflutes.
asciilifeform: why would even pile up dc-style boxes in fucking hovel?! what good they do there ?!
mp_en_viaje: asciilifeform, i believe. now you believe me when i say your household is grossly mismanaged.
asciilifeform: if mp_en_viaje says -- then perhaps is, who am i to say.
asciilifeform: perhaps if were well-managed, would consist of tractors an' rabbits
mp_en_viaje: capital is to be deployed certain ways, not fucking randomly, neh ?
asciilifeform: 'i dun understand this fucking martian' != 'random'
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje et al : http://www.loper-os.org/pub/baltimoristan.jpg for anyone who cares .
mp_en_viaje: asciilifeform, it is not interesting to me because well...
mp_en_viaje: i am interested in something like that next to someone who makes sense, though.
asciilifeform: luckily mp_en_viaje has battalion of people-who-make-sense next to reasonably-priced-dc then..
mp_en_viaje: i dunno, maybe something comes up.
mp_en_viaje: anyways, ima be off. laters all!
asciilifeform: nighty mp_en_viaje
asciilifeform: a+++ mp_en_viaje karateka today btw.
asciilifeform: enjoyed.

BingoBoingo: http://archive.is/3nQJt << Argentina is fatwah'd and even more isolated than Uruguay from an internet perspective, but here's what they offer for 2U 10mbps burstable symmetric (LACNIC so IP address poor). If Gbps can reasonable be had in Baltimore...
diana_coman: asciilifeform: as I was saying, now I don't bother to filter them anymore; they will filter themselves, as above.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i think mp_en_viaje will sooner eat glass than go argentine
diana_coman: BingoBoingo: fwiw I even emailed some brazilians, will see if/what they reply.
asciilifeform: diana_coman: i aint about to question your methods.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Right. It's just if you set the bar low... You get Argentines outbidding themselves to be lowest
asciilifeform: diana_coman: 'email errybody' is Right Thing
diana_coman: asciilifeform: better email them too or something, there are so many, it's not like I can cover all anyway
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo:wouldja argentina even for 1cent ?
asciilifeform: consider what you'd get.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: No. I would not Argentina.
asciilifeform: see, 'i would not, could not, in the zoo...'
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: It may be worth working with lobbes/trinque to see if a BTC/Dubloo circuit in the zone can be established. The one thing the US has is cables everywhere. Argentina hangs off of the "Tannat" cable still further from Fortaleza than Uruguay
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: if mp_en_viaje were interested, would. but he thinks asciilifeform is lunatic. so what'd be the use.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: apparently he also thought that i kept 15 spare piz's under my bed.
asciilifeform swears on mpkoranbbq that he doesn't
asciilifeform: diana_coman: so far emailing the places can physically reach. returned 1 output. but if you're overwhelmed, pgp piece of victim list and what-do-demand and i'ma help.
BingoBoingo: Well, how much does a dulap spec machine run for on the market atm, and are there any indications as to how deep the market is. You did say earlier that they are getting rarer
asciilifeform: imho there aint much point in putting inside usa if not asciilifeform , lobbes , trinque , can physically reach, usa is overpriced
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: ~1k. but limited availability ('depth') in market.
asciilifeform: see mp_en_viaje's point about the whore angela.
diana_coman: asciilifeform: atm I don't think it matters where if they do as told and come register and invoice with deedbot etc.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: if yer ~leasing~ a box, will get what the people have, not what you want. even in that ukr thing diana_coman found that supposedly opterons. they'll be with ipmi etc. this is inevitable.
asciilifeform: diana_coman: this promises to be uphill battle. i at least did not demand 'oh hey , only dc in 400km radius, will ya register w/deedbot ?'
BingoBoingo: diana_coman: Maxihost was pretty retarded with their formalism last time I searched in depth. Maybe someone else in Brasil is more responsive?
diana_coman: asciilifeform: you know, there were at least *some* in the whole list saying kvm; and I'm pretty sure I don't have a full list anyway.
asciilifeform: diana_coman: that's pretty good (rare) .
diana_coman: asciilifeform: I *am* asking them precisely that and nothing less.
asciilifeform: diana_coman: my approach was to find a ~reasonable~ dc to which can get with own hands. and to fall on the grenade of paying it from pocket. but i can see wai mp_en_viaje barfed.

diana_coman: asciilifeform: go ahead and ride it, really; do it well and it's worth it, what.
asciilifeform: diana_coman: apparently i'm too stupid to ride properly.

diana_coman: asciilifeform: so get them already.

BingoBoingo: Well, you can't expect real time answers with IRC. See what the other folks in the zone say when they wake up as far as BTC conversion.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: if e.g. trinque wants in, perhaps mp_en_viaje will consider.
asciilifeform: iirc trinque hungers day an' night for coin to buy.
asciilifeform: then we can get cabinet and a thick pipe etc.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Or lobbes since lobbes does seem to be documenting his housecleaning efforts well.
asciilifeform: ( or even trinque in trinqueistan )
asciilifeform: or lobbes.
diana_coman: asciilifeform: converting btc is anyway useful, I'd say; dc or no dc, I really don't see why *not* do it.
bvt: asciilifeform: you can get 2u for yourself - you'd still run logger somewhere, no?
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: the thought of filling a 42u in usa still makes me queasy. 1 day i'ma show up there and it'll be empty, 'oops'
asciilifeform: bvt: it's overkill 'for self', i aint mp, not loaded.
asciilifeform: diana_coman: i dun dispute that it's useful. but i do not know how to do it reliably.
asciilifeform: and e.g. racks, gotta be paid on time erry single time.
asciilifeform: potentially it could be done the way BingoBoingo did it. but the metered bw thing makes me ill, it's an open-ended liability
asciilifeform: and incidentally when they empty that 42u, i'ma have even less recourse than BingoBoingo against latech. i can't afford even hour of usa attourney i suspect . (not that it'd do much good)
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: At some point the queasyness has to be balanced against the opportunity to gain some leverage.
asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje sometimes seems to think that asciilifeform is a 1/32th scale model of himself. but no, asciilifeform is a pauper, and not even grade-a pauper .
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i'll fall on whatever grenade , but only makes sense to do if it does some good.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: my the lack of recourse against latecho is dwarfed by latecho and "dedicado"'s lack of recourse against centurylink.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: does idea of errybody in 1 cage again seem smart to you ?
asciilifeform: cuz to asciilifeform , does not.
asciilifeform: not even mattering where is this cage.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: It doesn't. But we are going through a forced diversification movement anyways.
asciilifeform: indeed we are.
asciilifeform: the 1 good imho that could even come outta it, is to make deadly sure we dun ever end up all in 1 dead cage again.
asciilifeform: speaking of 'expensive lessons'.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: my notion was to get a coupla holes and serve as 'horse rider' to 2-3 people. at same time topping off slowly own meagre coin sack, at the rate permitted by asciilifeform's pauperty.
asciilifeform: this naturally does ~not~ give same 'bang for buck' as 'whole cage, motherfucker!' and mp_en_viaje -- barfs predictably. tho i was under impression that diana_coman also shopping for less than whole cage.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: This is admirable, but even with them rating the ports as "burtable"... I suspect mp's inclination to get a full Gb pipe up front is how to keep the same sort of network farting from trashing the operation.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: bmore actually gives Gb pipe.
asciilifeform: simply charges for mass.
asciilifeform: you can run it all day at Gb if you like, simply will pop when the bill comes.
asciilifeform: they offload ddos filtration on the tenant.
asciilifeform: you get arin ip's etc.
asciilifeform: essentially same thing as 'if BingoBoingo on antel'
asciilifeform: mains current, oddly, not metered.
asciilifeform: ( simply 1.2amp fuse per 2u holes )
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i spoke with their fuhrer. (monkey was unable to answer all) , fella explained that 'customer must throttle himself, we just bill'
BingoBoingo: !Qlater tell trinque Backups have finished uploading to the deedbot server.
lobbesbot: BingoBoingo: The operation succeeded.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: at any rate quote is valid for 2wks, if mp_en_viaje parachutes in 'someone who aint a tard' asciilifeform will get cage etc. when given marching order.
asciilifeform: then can come back to subj.
asciilifeform: i'ma get a 2nd quote for 'all cage' in case.
asciilifeform: ( quotes dun cost anyffin but wear on asciilifeform's kbd )
asciilifeform bbl, meat.
BingoBoingo: Anyways from an architecture point of view one big weakness of LACNIC countries (and Asia it seems as well) is IP poverty. For all the disadvantages of North America, it has IP space to spare.
BingoBoingo brb, supply run to keep the biologics going
diana_coman: ftr, if no human can be found, I'll lease a server in turkey and be done with it.
diana_coman: done for today, will see what emails await me tomorrow.
lobbes back from mines; resumes eating log
mp_en_viaje: http://logs.ossasepia.com/log/trilema/2019-10-09#1944081 << i said, "so why are you discussing it here". go, get, do, wth.
ossabot: Logged on 2019-10-09 18:10:16 asciilifeform: mp_en_viaje said 'no pasaran'
mp_en_viaje: i can't imagine you need my approval or for that matter oppinion for getting yourself a box. go, get, what.
ossabot: Logged on 2019-10-09 18:11:10 BingoBoingo: Well, you can't expect real time answers with IRC. See what the other folks in the zone say when they wake up as far as BTC conversion.
mp_en_viaje: s nothing to fucking consider, man. if i have to buy the hardware, proximity to you is an anti-issue, you can't do x, can't do y, you're anti-useful.
mp_en_viaje: if i have to buy the hardware i'll simply lease whatever random dorks have ready and be done with it.
mp_en_viaje: what exactly did you imagine you'd be bringing to the table, anyway ? some manner to make any possible deal as complicatedly untenable as it could conceivably get ?
mp_en_viaje: http://logs.ossasepia.com/log/trilema/2019-10-09#1944122 << nah, if/when someone sane is found, can just get this next to them instead, easier.
ossabot: Logged on 2019-10-09 18:33:42 asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: at any rate quote is valid for 2wks, if mp_en_viaje parachutes in 'someone who aint a tard' asciilifeform will get cage etc. when given marching order.
