eightyeight: i need to expand my bitmessage social circle. :)
punkman: is it good?
gernika: eightyeight BM-2cVsnhcfNkU1D87u4hy7SfYw3qZ9m7Su55
eightyeight: i like it
gernika: I helped out with a better BM client: voluntary.net/bitpost
punkman: give me a tldr, how does it work
eightyeight: punkman: bitmessage?
eightyeight: bitmessage is a decentralized peer-to-peer, end-to-end, encrypted messaging system
eightyeight: gernika: is bitpost compatible? also, any plans for something other than an os-x only client?
gernika: Yes it's compatible. It runs pybitmessage in the background without the qt UI (we made our own UI). Yes there are plans for a cross platform client, but that's a ways off.
mircea_popescu: !up HoMM
HoMM: hey
mircea_popescu: os-x only ?!
assbot: BitcoinStats
eightyeight: when the curses interface for bitmessage gets its bugs worked out, i'll be pretty excited
mircea_popescu: it's full of trolls ?!
gernika: mircea_popescu yes. The UI dev wanted a lot of control over the UI, and didn't want to build a js ui full of ugly compromises.
mircea_popescu: gernika i just didn't realise anyone who's not apple writes for the os-x as a platform.
punkman: eightyeight: link to that?
eightyeight: to the curses bug?
punkman: to the curses app
mircea_popescu: "I am certainly up for spending a few hundred dollars here" << we got called trolls by a guy whose budget is three whole figures :D
mircea_popescu: o wait, it's ninjashogun. heh nm.
gernika: mircea_popescu well the apple app store is full of people who do. Although it's not as popular is windows, the app store can be a good source of revenue as apple users tend to spend more money on apps.
ben_vulpes: days of apps as money makers is kinda gone at this point gernika
punkman: eightyeight: never mind, found it
ben_vulpes: some lotto winners may disagree, but...
ben_vulpes: "crapshoot", i think is the term.
mircea_popescu: i dunno, judging by the sad state of the ipad games (which i've been reviewing for the past month or so) i doubt much money is spent at all.
gernika: ben_vulpes true more and more
mircea_popescu: ben_vulpes im seeing pretty much that yes.
eightyeight: punkman: yeah. sorry. wife sidetracked me.
mircea_popescu: the remains of a mining boom, basically. lotta ghost towns and some old whores.
eightyeight: yeah. the main app supports it with '-c'
mircea_popescu: i guess congrats are in order to apple, they managed to burn it all in five years.

gernika: I saw an interesting pricing model recently. An app I used allowed me to buy a specific new feature. That's an improvement over, buy once, get free updates forever.

ben_vulpes: who even fractions any more
ben_vulpes: but hey on the previous topic while all the cheap, easily accessed hydrocarbons have been extracted from the app store stuff, some of us are derping around in the service of large piles of capital, sinking wells here and there.
mircea_popescu: stupid use of capital.
mircea_popescu: it's like if you owned a small shop, paid rent and then advertised the mall.
mircea_popescu: fuck them, let them a) advertise themselves and b) pay you to be there.
ben_vulpes: well a practical example
ben_vulpes: say a stadium would rather commission a mobile thinger than print oodles of shiny paper for every game
ben_vulpes: not the worst deployment of capital in the world. they're not chasing lotto returns or anything.
ben_vulpes: plus the odd revenue stream can come out of a piece of software like that: user data, better advertising opportunities...
mircea_popescu: i guess.
ben_vulpes: mind you though this whole thing only makes sense in the insanitorum
mircea_popescu: i was never a stadium.
ben_vulpes: where even the poverty stricken have 3 inches of pixels on which to advertise...
mircea_popescu: but i kinda thought those are mostly run like charities
ben_vulpes: and on the flipside, i'm talking another client out of his mobile things.
ben_vulpes: > charities, yeah, and we all know how they allocate capital.
