lobbes[asciilifeform]: asciilifeform: which tokenized llm 'provider' are you using? I've been giving 20 bux per month to 'Cursor' and have been getting use out of it in my personal projects. In my dayjob, company is paying for 'Windsurf' which, as far as I can tell, is almost identical in terms of the models available for whichever agent.
lobbes[asciilifeform]: while I find these tools useful, I am waiting for the rug to be pulled at some point. From what I understand, none of the mega corps who run these bots are even close to profitable at the moment
asciilifeform: lobbes: this was 'claude' with 'pro' subc. + a bag of extra arcade tokens
asciilifeform: 'opus 4.5' setting (per the docs, runs up taximeter faster than all others). the lesser ones proved 100% useless tho.
asciilifeform not even knows whether the model per se is the only decent 1 from that shop, or the diff is simply from the fact that it 1) runs yer coad 2) has a ~10min+ max 'thinking' rather than trying to 'realtime chat'
signpost[asciilifeform]: http://logs.bitdash.io/pest/2025-12-04#1035857 << what I meant by personality is e.g. clod firmly pushed back on me yesterday when I demanded that it replace a custom UI slider control with the native OS one and gave a good enough argument for the custom control that I agreed with it. whereas the openai item tends to just
signpost[asciilifeform]: toil stupidly in place in the same situation because massa said.
signpost[asciilifeform] made a little music app for iOS
asciilifeform: signpost: oddly enough, asciilifeform not encountered 'rebot resistance'. tho sometimes needed 'nope, this won't do, revert, let's think of anuther way'
asciilifeform: *robot resist
asciilifeform tried the orig. 'open'ai gpt in earlier times, found that it goes in circle 4evah and ergo 100% waste of time/$
asciilifeform: lobbes: it seems absolutely inescapable that prices for these will go up, even if the vendors continue to be supplied with fresh printolade 'invest' (which prices in reich and of what dun go up like clockwork..?)
asciilifeform: the more interesting issue is that, sorta like cnc machining in the '50s, 'lets a moron produce scrap 1000x faster', there'll be wankage
asciilifeform: i.e. the shittier (and cheaper to operate) bots, + all types of bots when in hands of 'deskilled' lolprogrammers, will (already did?) churn out liquishit that will have to be expensively replaced, and whole industry will be thermonuked a la lispm 'winter'
signpost[asciilifeform]: seems like the "costs trillion dollars to train" thing is going to go away eventually and crush everyone that relied upon that being true.
signpost[asciilifeform] not particularly interested in running chicom open source models, but they seem to be not terribly far behind.
asciilifeform: signpost: the centralized time-sharing arcades won't be missed if/when actually-useful bot becomes runnable on plebe irons
asciilifeform not yet seem a 'runnable' one that's anyffin moar than 'autocomplete smarf enuff to be annoying'
