PeterL[asciilifeform|cgra]: http://logs.bitdash.io/pest/2023-02-26#1024298 << I think there is a knob that would help with that, maybe presence_check_seconds or peer_offline_interval_seconds, I seem to remember setting one of those so that it would not mark people as "away"
bitbot[asciilifeform]: Logged on 2023-02-26 11:38:04 asciilifeform[4]: crtdaydreams: are you on a gsm modem or similar? ( seeing kilometres of 'joined #pest' / 'left #pest' )
PeterL[asciilifeform|cgra]: does blatta have an online help to say what the knobs control?
awt[asciilifeform]: PeterL: no there is no documentation of the knobs
awt[asciilifeform]: In this case it would be peer_offline_interval_seconds
PeterL[asciilifeform]: awt: when I start up blatta, before I connect my IRC I get a bunch of error warnings like "ERROR 2023-02-27 10:26:16,366: Attempt to use client prior to connection"
PeterL[asciilifeform]: would it be better for it to know it is not connected to a client and save the messages for later delivery when the client connects?
awt[asciilifeform]: PeterL: yes it would. Haven't had time to implement that message queue.
awt[asciilifeform]: Also, will not be an issue in post-irc versions
mod6[asciilifeform]: asciilifeform: Is there anything special I need to make this work? << http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/pest/2023-02-23
mod6[asciilifeform]: This is weird, I'm not seeing any messages in #pest from anyone. Just join/part. Hmm.
signpost[4]: I'm seeing you mod6
mod6[asciilifeform]: so, mjr prob was timedrift. set clock to correct time, seems to maybe fix.
mod6[asciilifeform]: at least, that's one issue for sure.
mod6[asciilifeform]: cool, deedbot seems to have peer'd successfully and is responsive. :]

mod6[asciilifeform]: hai asciilifeform
asciilifeform: wb mod6 !

PeterL[asciilifeform]: mod6, you getting hit by this snowstorm? My kids had two days off of school last week, now we've got another storm dumping snow on us again, visibility is down to about 3 meters.
mod6[asciilifeform]: Got dumped on last week, hard, almost 20" in 72 hrs. Today a bit of rain/snow for a few hours.
mod6[asciilifeform]: We got a dump in January that was like 24" in 48 hrs... and it was wet & heavy. :< At least this dump was cold enough to make the snow light.
mod6[asciilifeform]: It isn't super common to have snowfalls > than say 8-10" at a time. Often is more like 3-5". So 16"+ is pretty heavy.
PeterL[asciilifeform]: This past week was the first snow of more than about an inch we have gotten all winter, the weather has been abnormally mild. My fiend has a son up in the UP though, said they already had 48" on the ground before the storms this past week.
PeterL[asciilifeform]: s/friend/fiend
mod6[asciilifeform]: Ah, yeah, it certainly hasn't been as snowy as last year, or as cold. I've got some extended family in da yupper - they get some wild lake-effect stuff up there, indeed.
mod6[asciilifeform]: After that january dump we got, the whole thing melted down to like 3" because of a warm front that moved through for a few weeks. Then, last weeks crud came through. *eyeroll*
mod6[asciilifeform]: I did learn something this year, aparently in Canada when they have ice on the power lines they can do a controlled short-circut to melt the ice off the lines for up to 30-50km. Apparently without impacting customers, and takes 2-3hrs.
mod6[asciilifeform]: Saw a video of this, kinda neat.
PeterL[asciilifeform]: Just pushed one co-worker's car out of the snow, and just as we got them out of the parking lot the plow shows up. It's about 6 inches after 3 hours
mod6[asciilifeform]: Oh yeah, that's dumpin pretty hard. 4WD++
