crtdaydreams[asciilifeform]: http://logs.bitdash.io/asciilifeform/2022-04-05#1092901 << came back to thread in search of russian lit reccommendations, but reminded of short convo had today regarding mowing lawns; the concept of using a scythe to mow is completely alien to most now, even though it comes with the extreme benefit of being able to gather
bitbot[asciilifeform]: (asciilifeform) 2022-04-05 phf: i started reflecting on this as a result of two things: i reread a handful of classic russian literature books, war and piece, hero of our time by lermontov, some tolstoy short stories, that kind of stuff, and i started riding in earnest, and i sort of realized that our distance from our qui
crtdaydreams[asciilifeform]: up all the seed and burn it without spreading it, and over time eliminate weeds
crtdaydreams[asciilifeform]: within a given lawn, can also mow when wet and cut around trees and lawn edges without damaging the bark on the trees or needing another machine to do the job. also dun matter how high the grass is etc...
crtdaydreams[asciilifeform]: would also be interested in comfy ru web reading material (if exists?)
PeterL[asciilifeform]: awt: so, what happens if my IRC client is not connected when blatta receives a message? Shouldn't I get a bunch of old messages when I connect?
awt[asciilifeform]: PeterL: that would fix the problem, but I would prefer not to put any more effort into hacks supporting the IRC interface.
awt[asciilifeform]: In fact I would like to hack off IRC asap.
asciilifeform: awt: for folx who aint living in emacs, irc will probably be the only pest ui for rather long time
bitbot[asciilifeform]: Logged on 2022-07-08 20:04:36 asciilifeform[billymg]: would still like an integrated client where cut&paste work (i.e. xorg proggy) but not expects any time soon, is over9000 sweat
awt[asciilifeform]: Undoubtedly. Can still be hacked off from blatta and be its own thing.
asciilifeform: that yes
awt[asciilifeform]: re: address cast, when you see your pals online via hearsay, could manually blast out an AC to hook up at that time.
awt[asciilifeform]: or simply set a trigger to broadcast AC when hearsay messages from cold peers show up
asciilifeform: awt: imho good idea, worth thinking
asciilifeform: the one serious minus is that it relies on the stranded peer to actually speak
asciilifeform: and therefore folx who rarely speak, will remain stranded for long periods, and not participate in helping other members of net to escape nat
asciilifeform: imho ideally pestron oughta proactively work to stay properly connected to peers, regardless of how often operator speaks
awt[asciilifeform]: Yes. I suppose the pill for the reticent would be a periodic "here I am" broadcast message type that isn't written to the console.
asciilifeform: the nat escape mechanism is an archaetypical 'bundle of straw', i.e. stronger over9000 together than any one part
asciilifeform: awt: possibly
awt[asciilifeform]: That's basically what address cast is though.
awt[asciilifeform]: Except there would only be 1 message broadcast instead of 1 per cold peer.
signpost[asciilifeform]: https://archive.ph/WBqWw << dorks in us.mil openly bragging about training ukrs on the Harpoon system in the US.
signpost[asciilifeform]: "Clarification: A Pentagon spokesperson said Bill LaPlante did not mean to say that Ukrainians were trained in the United States."
signpost[asciilifeform] recently read Unrestricted Warfare, mildly entertaining discussion of the then-upcoming hybrid war between china and US from 1998 from the cn perspective.
signpost[asciilifeform]: contextualizes the present conflict pretty well.
asciilifeform: signpost: what diff it makes where ?
asciilifeform: ( previously ukrs were trained in canada, say )
signpost[asciilifeform]: scurrying out a "did not mean to say" was entertaining.
signpost[asciilifeform]: obvious to anyone with a pulse we've been at "hybrid war" with both parties for a long time.
signpost[asciilifeform]: sorry about the noise. I loaded the shit out of the box that runs my pest station.
crtdaydreams[asciilifeform]: signpost: what didja do? fork bomb yourself?
asciilifeform: signpost: fwiw over here saw only single reconnect ( deedbot's )
signpost[asciilifeform]: crtdaydreams: nah, distcc job that fell back to the puny box in question.
signpost[asciilifeform]: asciilifeform: ah ok, over here I saw everyone else join/part/etc, thought that meant I was doing the same outbound.
