asciilifeform: following up re upstack -- went and rtfm'd, sha384 is simply sha512 with mutilated init state and truncated output; and ditto 224 (mutilated 256) ; i.e. no speed win over the full-length one, only point of'em was pill against length extensionism
dulapbot: Logged on 2021-09-23 23:01:04 asciilifeform: faster hash -- moar ddos resistance, with the obv. tradeoff.
dulapbot: Logged on 2021-09-23 22:56:04 asciilifeform: sha384 (and 224 for that matter) don't expose their full internal state from the output, and so don't actually need the double-pass hmac construction.
asciilifeform will stick w/ 384 unless someone has a convincing objection
punkman: asciilifeform: instead of HMAC-512?
asciilifeform: punkman: well, in current draft hmac384
punkman: found a small irc server to embed in my pest prototype
punkman: was planning to use separate ircd, but this seems handy, can make it think it has a connected user for each WoT peer
asciilifeform: punkman: neato. if it's golang or somesuch horror tho, asciilifeform prolly won't be able to test yours, doesn't keep that toolchain around (nor would it likely run under asciilifeform's gentoo)
signpost apologizes for absence lately. investigating new locations for fort with moar acreage.
asciilifeform: np signpost . asciilifeform also absent, drowning in 2 simult. streams of commercial liquishit
thimbronion has been similarly disposed.
thimbronion: Current gig requires repeatedly viewing exercise videos and using a remote.
signpost: can't help but bite. wtf is the gig thimbronion?
thimbronion: signpost: Exercise app on Roku devices.
signpost: ah, testing it out eh?
signpost: first thing that came to mind was "'Smith!' screamed the shrewish voice from the telescreen. '6079 Smith W.! Yes, you! Bend lower, please! You can do better than that."
verisimilitude: I type this with a buckling-spring keyboard.
verisimilitude: I'll see if it treats my hands any better.
verisimilitude: The chording keyboard isn't a total replacement, and I'd noticed I'd never used a keyboard which would be considered particularly nice, so now I'll be testing it.
verisimilitude: I'll write up on my recent experiences soon; the chair I sit in cost less than my keyboard, so I'll be replacing that soon.
verisimilitude: Now, asciilifeform isn't actually going to use that old Ada Serpent implementation, is he; I found the code horrible, and will write a nicer implementation.
verisimilitude: On that note, I found stream ciphers very similar to hash checksum functions in many ways; my naive description would be the former are akin to reversible forms of the latter, or vice-versa.
