verisimilitude: I've decided to purchase a BAT keyboard soon, and to simply see how I like its default layout, even though `e'' requires three fingers.
verisimilitude: Even then, it will probably still be an improvement over a keyboard, and I could always learn a new layout later.
verisimilitude: I've read the layout was supposedly researched well, but haven't read the actual evidence for this.

verisimilitude: Of course.
asciilifeform: in related lulz, http://gpl-violations.org : 'Please note that this homepage is not maintained very well. We're so busy in both technically and legally resolving GPL violations that there's hardly any time left to keep this page up-to-date.'
verisimilitude: I'm reminded of when that TPP was the hot topic, and how it included a segment specifically attacking copyleft in all but name; that was a good example of how the rules simply change when they lose.
verisimilitude: The appearance of law must be maintained, although that rioting shows it needn't be maintained when inconvenient.
asciilifeform: verisimilitude: are you familiar with how vegas worx?
asciilifeform: i.e. how casino maintains the illusion that 'winning' is a thing
asciilifeform: courts etc. work similarly.
asciilifeform: occasionally a plebe (moar often, 'class action') will be shown to 'win' against a corp
asciilifeform: all of this discussion is applicable not merely to opensores licensism, but to whole concept of contractual agreements between unequal parties, and the nonsensical (yet very popular, and well-pushed) notion that the weaker can somehow ding the stronger via 'rule of law' in the workings of a supposed neutral judiciary
asciilifeform: in actuality, a plebe's supposed power to sue and win against an oligarch or corporation is a rattle :
asciilifeform: the elite eagerly hand out faux-power to the plebes, like parents give rattles to children, to entertain and divert from 'breaking things'.
asciilifeform: most famous rattle is of course the ballot.
asciilifeform: spoiler : it does not matter how much you shake the rattle. or how big is your particular rattle. or even if you can get 1e9 fellow rattlers to shake theirs with you.
asciilifeform: net effect is 0.
verisimilitude: Reading how Gameboy and related boot firmware have been dumped is so fascinating.
verisimilitude: The software appears to work perfectly, having a mechanism to hide itself forever, but the clock can be manipulated to cause the instruction which does this to fail.
verisimilitude: It goes to show how even if drm were proven in software, the hardware approach would just be chosen.
verisimilitude: That reminds me of inducing memory errors in Multics for privilege escalation; I wonder if it's practically impossible to have a secure multi-user system.
verisimilitude: s/it's/it be/
asciilifeform: verisimilitude: see also 'rowhammer'.
asciilifeform: verisimilitude: re: 'secure multiuser section' -- traditionally this kind of item is called 'pissing-section in swimming pool'
asciilifeform: *'secure multiuser system'
verisimilitude: In principle, it's possible, but at this point it's much easier to simply give everyone separate machines, which is basically an existence proof of the security.
