asciilifeform: thimbronion: unsurprise ('shrinkflation' in shops, where price -- same, but sack of $substance -- smaller -- has been going monotonically since '08)

asciilifeform: ... a lul from linked page : 'The road to socialism via inflation: * Print money, crash the reserve currency, destroy savers, and force them into inflated assets. * Asset inflation leads to inequality. Demonize asset holders and tax the nominal gains, thereby confiscating the real value of the assets.'

verisimilitude: These people have no clue what socialism is.

verisimilitude: Worse, they think it's bad.

verisimilitude: Anyway, yes, I've also noticed, years back, how the prices stay the same, but the portions get smaller. Businesses have tried to claim this is good, because customers are ``less sensitive to portion changes than price'', but that's just another way of stating they're easier to steal from that way.

    asciilifeform: verisimilitude: aka 'shrinkflation'(tm)(r)

asciilifeform: anyways, the 'tax the nominal gains' thing has worked equally well w/ au, and btc, and whatever other nominal escapes from printola.

thimbronion: asciilifeform: I don't notice food costs much, but I think the guy is claiming a recent jump. I mean, I saw a dozen eggs at the fancy supermarket for $8.00, so I could maybe see where he's coming from. 4.00 used to shock me.

verisimilitude: I've not noticed such. I'd think if the prices were to increase dramatically, it would be among similar items first, ie. the pre-boiled eggs sold shrinkwrapped.

verisimilitude: It makes sense when we recognize most people are stupid. I could be stupid, but prefer to think I'm not.

verisimilitude: The only way I know of to prove intelligence in any meaningful way is acts, and too few people know even this, thinking instead that feelings are all. What a horrifying existence, to do nothing novel for one's entire life.

asciilifeform: verisimilitude: imho once you start even thinking 'prove my intelligence...' yer breathing own exhaust pipe

verisimilitude: There's merit to it. Don't have the impression I sit around thinking about it often. I don't believe it's a tainted topic which shouldn't even be mentioned.

asciilifeform: verisimilitude: can mention, wainot, all you like. just like nuffin wrong w/ mentioning division by 0. as opposed to doing it..

verisimilitude: It's but a natural consequence of observing others.

verisimilitude: ``These people sure are stupid. Wait, how do I know I'm not aso stupid?''
