asciilifeform: meanwhile, uncrated this experimental machine. it in fact worx (will eventually port rk-gentoo to it..) but reports of oddities were troo -- e.g. world's worst touchpad mouse, and peculiar inability to charge battery while cpu runs
snsabot: Logged on 2020-06-01 00:17:43 asciilifeform: trinque: i ordered the euro 'pine', oughta suffice to test yours & mine rk ports when thing finally rowboats across ocean
asciilifeform: for an entire lappy that's sold for cost of ~4 traditional rk boards, it aint terrible.
asciilifeform: ... and apparently does charge, if load light enuff
asciilifeform astonished at the factory heathen linux that comes not only w/out gcc (any type), but even w/out 'make', 'grep', ...
asciilifeform: in other oddities, 'reboot' does not reboot the box, but... shuts down
asciilifeform: ftr the vendor's mouse fw update does help palpably.
asciilifeform: ^ trinque (and anybody else experimenting w/ this artifact)

trinque: asciilifeform: cool ty; I'm still waiting for mine to arrive. iirc ETA monday
asciilifeform: trinque: mine had official eta 'monday 22' but showed up today
trinque: Shipment on hold CINCINNATI HUB, OH - USA
trinque: lolwut
asciilifeform: interesting packaging, btw -- showed up in a sack, inside unmarked crate, inside -- yet another unmarked crate
trinque: asciilifeform: how chintzy is the build?
trinque: I won't have much use for the trackpad, not too worried about that
asciilifeform: trinque: the chassis ? rock solid
trinque: nice
asciilifeform: upper/lower outer shell is metallic
asciilifeform: inside, what feels like textured abs
asciilifeform: kbd is surprisingly tactile , for what it cost (not up to e.g. classic 'thinkpad' level, but beats shit outta e.g. crapple's)
asciilifeform: i got the eureich variant of kbd (the america-style was sold out then)
asciilifeform: trinque: 1 pleasant surprise, is total lack of vendor markings on the shell
asciilifeform: it's simply matte black box.
asciilifeform: ( if vendor to be believed -- some mg alloy. i haven't lit mine tho, so nfi whether tru )
feedbot: http://thimbron.com/2020/06/crawling-btcbaseorglog/ << Thimbron -- Crawling btcbase.org/log
trinque: looking forward to it; I've been on a crapple keyboard for so long, anything will be better.
asciilifeform: trinque: if someone, somewhere, ever made a sadder kbd than crapple, i haven't encountered it yet
asciilifeform does keep crapples around, for paying heathen worx, but they're all plugged into external kbds
trinque: mine also, until I take one to sit in the sun
trinque is biologically unfit for computer work, needs to be irradiated regularly to stay sane
asciilifeform has an (ancient, sadly, but properly retrofitted ) box for sunlight
asciilifeform: 'tis unfortunate that ^ dun fit any box w/ moar horsepower
trinque: yeah, on any sane planet there's a market for those kind of displays.
asciilifeform: i also recently built an experimental thing where this panel plugged into stock rk
asciilifeform: but deliberately leaving this alone until wrap up ffa
asciilifeform: theoretically ideal 'sunlight comp' tho.
asciilifeform: ( b&w, but it aint for watching lolcats, for work is entirely workable )
trinque: partial refresh eh
trinque: I'll be interested to hear if it keeps up with the cursor reasonably well
asciilifeform: whole refresh in ~400ms
asciilifeform: ( in 1-bit mode, faster still )
trinque: nb
