adlai: in other shitware entomology, a github repo authored by someone other than me has appeared in my account
adlai: http://github.com/adlai/agorint <-- 'expert entomologists only' ~4k lines of "Rust", which according to what I was taught as a child, causes tetanus if you are not inoculated
adlai wonders how to adjust the kyristor in response to this discovery!
adlai: commits appear authored by a pseudonymous 'pro' account, i.e. someone who pays microsoft for extra features
thimbronion: spyked: is feedbot down?
asciilifeform: thimbronion: appears to be
spyked: danke schon for the ping, thimbronion

asciilifeform did not try to read 'mega-ai in cobol' or whatthefuck was it. missed anything ?
shinohai: I saw the adlai rust thing, but appears that it twasn't forked ... (Usually says so @ top "forked from <user>/<repo>")
asciilifeform: for all i know, thing randomly logs $user1 in as $user2 , like ye olde 'livejournal' & similar
asciilifeform: it's microshit after all
shinohai: yup yup

adlai: asciilifeform: it is quite the boojum! not a forked repo, as shinohai observed. appears to be a 'mirror' of some other drunkard's masamunic urbit. I didn't try reading the src yet, although the human-readable markdown seems to have been written by g_l or perhaps some brotha-fromanutha-mutha.
adlai: now, it could just be that I was too drunk to remember mirroring that; and it could be that some shitware is sufficiently devious to mirror itself in random github accounts; maybe, both.
adlai: bizarrely enough, the original author still has their github account... yet does not host the repo. the mirror under my user appears to be the only extant copy.
adlai wonders whether this is how somnambulists feel, upon discovering that 'someone' did the laundry and dishes during the night
adlai: although, beats me why mysterion doesn't, e.g., slip an API key exfiltrator into the tradebot, or empty my account on an exchange, or any number of less unprofitable shenanigans
asciilifeform: adlai: it aint for me to say whether yer kitchen has mice , but imho subscribing crackpot shithubs aint typically top of the list for what folx do when guessed someone's pw etc
adlai: much more likely that I trolled myself when Vexual-level drunk
asciilifeform: adlai: if you genuinely took in enuff vodka that have nfi what did to yer terminal last night, i rec to... drink less
adlai: 'prank' appears to have occurred years, not days, ago
asciilifeform: lol and only nao noticed ? that's a hellavalot of vodka
adlai: someone gave it a 'star' on github ~2 weeks ago, I don't review my github popularity every five minutes!
adlai: ok, mystery half-solved: I send a patch fixing a broken link, that is why I have a mirror. why author nuked original copy, is author's business.
asciilifeform: then snoar.
asciilifeform: adlai: if yer genuinely concerned re 'slip xyz into whateverbot', consider to use civilized vtronics instead of microshit phree-wwwsite kolhoz
asciilifeform bbl in ~hr
adlai: hah, author did dox himself in the git metadata
adlai: well, not quite 'dox'... just, contact info
adlai always finds it puzzling when someone writes a manifesto, especially one this ambitious, and even starts writing code, published in version control for easy collaboration... and then nukes all copies and reduces net footprint to ~0
adlai: perhaps he "took the brown acid" and is now on the run from Roko's Basilisk
asciilifeform: adlai: or 'saw the light' and got the hell off shithub
asciilifeform: soon will be decade since asciilifeform cured 100% of 'put coad on coadhosting sites'
asciilifeform: trinque: interestingly, found that 'pine' box can still be had, from same vendor, if with orc kbd .
snsabot: Logged on 2020-05-29 20:07:54 trinque: Sorry, we do not have enough "14″ PINEBOOK Pro LINUX LAPTOP (ANSI, US Keyboard)" in stock to fulfill your order right now. Please try again in 4320 minutes or edit your cart and try again. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
asciilifeform: ( they sell 2 variants, ascii & eureich )
trinque: cool, going to snag one?
trinque: I'm still awaiting a DHL tracking # on mine
adlai: asciilifeform: that's the thing, dude still not only has an account there, but even 'pro', i.e. paid; for all i know, kept the skynet repo, only made it private to go full-urbit
adlai always had a slight dislike for github, even pre-microsoft, for this very reason: instead of offering paid services for e.g. execution of custom scripts, the main premium feature was private repositories
Vexual: trinque: HK should be waking up soon, I think pinebook flies direct from there
Vexual: they're powerful cheap, the `no profit' thing is believable.
asciilifeform: trinque: aha, was considering. if forum fauna are to be believed tho, it's a bit of 'lotto', some units w/ odd power controller bugs (random failure to charge, screen light flicker, etc)
asciilifeform: prolly need 2-3 to make 1 100% working box, if so
asciilifeform: adlai: afaik they have 'free private' for 1GB nao, or sumthing. i still dun see the appeal of shithub tho. ( i put some garbage there ~decade ago, back when thought 'opensores! folx will contribute patches!' etc )
adlai: as for why do I use git for scalpl, and not V - firstly, V did not exist when I began writing scalpl!
adlai: secondly, and perhaps a less terrible reason, is that using V, a system predicated around the idea of signing the code, would make more sense when I have a customer or collaborator who is receiving code and verifying that it's from me
adlai: the few cases where I've had any sort of partnership, so far, have been of the "just make money" variety, where the other side didn't particularly seem to care whether I was trading by hand, or using any specific program
adlai: perhaps that's not the correct phrasing; the precise one is that the signed contract did not say that I deliver working code, but rather, results, incidentally achieved through the workings of a program
Vexual: asciilifeform: it might (prolly) be worth obtaining any reqd chinesium by the boatload as soon as you can; feels like tarrif approaching
Vexual: testnet barley cost 2x in cn now
Vexual: desktops ex tw might be unobtanium in 10 years.
asciilifeform: Vexual: i have moar problem w/ avoiding disappearing beneath an ocean of scrap iron / time sinks than 'save penny', historically
Vexual: did you ever buy the 11 inch one?
Vexual: ;from pinebook
Vexual: I haven't seen a pinebook chassis
Vexual: will the pro stuff fit in the 11 case?
Vexual: apple mills an al chassis right?
Vexual: unsure if pinebook is plastic or metal
Vexual: so much gets lost in text
Vexual: needs moar sitdown
Vexual: time is important. pre cosby
Vexual: testnet
