asciilifeform: mats: is there a text version ?
mats: there's no transcript, but his entry in a report is on pg31 https://www.nbr.org/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/publications/sr96_meeting_chinas_military_challenge_jan2022.pdf
asciilifeform: mats: ty. loox to be characteristically ponderous/washingtonical
mats: the podcast interview is a lot more witty and to the point
mats: where the problems are -- DPP, the ruling party, has been systematically starving the military of resources and readiness, buying useless equipment, and endlessly parroting that the americans will definitely come to help them in the event of invasion
mats: if there was an adult in the leadership, they would tell them that the americans are certainly not coming and it is irresponsible, stupid, shortsighted to expect their support, that the only rational long term defense planning is the assumption that us/jp/kr/ph etc will NOT come to their ad
mats: aid* and not to plan accordingly
mats: it is a little funny to go from f16 procurement to f35, but it does make sense when it comes to hasty emergency runway construction
mats: he makes a good point about taiwan's reliance on lng, i criticised the move away from nuclear for the same logistics security reasons
mats: he's written about tw military deficiencies for some time, e.g. https://web.archive.org/web/20230129135404/https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/02/15/china-threat-invasion-conscription-taiwans-military-is-a-hollow-shell
