mircea_popescu: ie, problem is WAY the fuck worse than mere failure along the lines of http://trilema.com/2018/must-suck-to-be-one-of-you-average-guy-with-a-great-sense-of-humor-losers-seriously-now/#selection-91.829-95.1 ; they literally have given up on commerce as a going concern, and universally.
mircea_popescu: the argentinization of the united states is so far progressed, i literally can not distinguish between the two by now. they make the same 0 sales.
mircea_popescu: notwithstanding that universally "unexpected situation" is the subjective perception of "we utterly fucked up".
mircea_popescu: because average ustard actually perceives that a) limiting himself to his broke-ass, never-seen-money-in-life compatriots is not merely an acceptable business strategy, but legally mandatory and b) the correct response to "unexpected situation" is "nopenopenopenopenope".
mircea_popescu: they didn't merely lose the sale ; but specifically sov-style she was "asked to leave".
mircea_popescu: girl was then sent on the premises, to explain that because they failed to have an online presence, either they let her photograph select items for her master or else they lose the sale.
mircea_popescu: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-09-02#1846877 << this is nothing. girl got sent (to major us metropolitan area) to scout for specific sex shop items. returned list of "best sex shops" in early stage. upon review of their "online store" it was discovered a) they are 100% cheap-ass white label crap, exactly indistinct from what douchebag would run and b) entirtely not representative of 1% of the stock of the brick and mortar store.

asciilifeform: aanyway i'm off to unwind for a spell in the room where it's 1982 , bbl.
asciilifeform: or take the 'dollar store' quality kbd. already sop in all lappy.
asciilifeform: upstack -- folx who aint condemned to work with crapple artifacts, can laugh off the idiocies, but they spread like pestilence to other vendors, e.g. glossy lcd, glued-in battery, gpu soldered with balls that thermally cycle and guaranteed to come loose in 3-4 yrs, have already become ~ubiquitous in other portable boxen
asciilifeform: and , fwiw, asciilifeform would rather live in su circa 1982 and design little calculators for 'elektronika'. but nobody asked him.
asciilifeform: it isn't any moar outrageous than the butane-filled refrigerator BingoBoingo found himself with
asciilifeform: hey, i suspect the caterpillar battery is inevitable : 'ecological!111'
asciilifeform: ( since mircea_popescu is asleep, i'ma have to put in placeholder for the oblig thread, [ m: 'you deserve this for working for a living, idjit' a: '...' ] )
asciilifeform: i can already picture it : 2y from nao, asciilifeform will be posting re crapple box where there's tank of poisonous brazilian caterpillars in place of battery, and they broke loose, and gotta stand in queue to have'em replaced, and meanwhile crawling up sleeves
diana_coman: the spikes idea sounds cool too, maybe suggest it
asciilifeform: ( i would say 'catches fire' is next, but then recalled that this is already not uncommon, and not merely in crapple machines )
asciilifeform: crapple has never not sucked, but the battery glue is imho a new low. gotta wonder what's next, maybe spikes will randomly emerge from the kbd
diana_coman: well, at least if they pay you for staying in the queue...
asciilifeform: ftr this was their last even half-usable box, right before they took away the f-keys.
asciilifeform: it's for heathen work, for moneys.
asciilifeform: diana_coman: at least that one's scrubbable, rather than in drm rom
asciilifeform: and, lulzily, not only do they charge coupla hundy for this, but they ~glue it in~ to make harder to replace ( chinese of course sell replacement, with bottle of acid to dissolve the glue, takes whole day, but this does not unbend the keyboard, mousepad, chassis, that bend from the swell )
diana_coman: the unique apple experience!
asciilifeform: diana_coman: on one hand, it makes for straight recipe for cuntoo lappy; but on other, it would still be slightly syphilitic , i.e. not wholly scrubbed of googlism
asciilifeform: i'ma let mircea_popescu make the call re whether these finds add up to a 'let's make lappys' or not yet.
asciilifeform: other item, is that a main bootloader built for this thing, theoretically will also work on the c100pa, which has no cr50.
asciilifeform: this will give a setup where a box separated from its sd, is 'unsecret', and can be expected to be identical to other cured units.
asciilifeform: imho the ideal setup for this box (which has ~4~ nonvolatile roms -- the 3 above, and the 16GB ssd soldered onto mobo) is to put uboot in the main fw, and cuntoo ~installer~ on the 16GB ssd, which will boot if blank sd card is inserted, and install cuntoo on the latter; and subsequently boot off sd. this way the box will not slowly wear out the nonreplaceable internal ssd.
asciilifeform: i did get the unlock to persist across reboots, last night.
asciilifeform: ( for those who did not follow the orig c101pa threads : the box has ~three~ firmware turds: 1) main (8MB) bootloader 2) EC (little arm thingie, has own console , controls all of kbd but the power and reset lines, as well as various voltages, and battery charger) 3) cr50 -- controls power/reset lines, inits the charging brick, and 'god mode' debug over the other 2 chips, i.e. cpu and EC )
asciilifeform: there also appears to be a knob that switches off the usb console entirely, but i have not tried it yet, will test when i'm about to throw out the current mobo i have in there (with the damaged mouse connector) and put in new one (i have replacements)
asciilifeform: fwiw i can also nao control 'pinmux' ( the built-in gadget that connects arbitrary lines on the pcb to arbitrary others ) and various other vendor knobs
asciilifeform: what i have not found a way to do, is to neuter cr50 in the sense originally wanted , where it turns into simply battery controller and nobody can rewrite from snake.
asciilifeform: what this does, is remove the 'nobus' aspect of the thing, nao anybody can r/w the fw via the snake.
asciilifeform: diana_coman: to be very specific, i did not properly break cr50. what i found instead was an apparently-Official (albeit undocumented) knob in the most recent fw release, which does equiv of rma unlock ( sets all of the permission bits for console ) and enables spi bus access, through which can r/w the main and ec fw turds.

BingoBoingo: It is what it is. Uruguay legalized the stuff and yet the locals can't gorw themselves into an Oregon problem
BingoBoingo: Hard to repackage the Paraguay, its pressed for transit to Brasil
mircea_popescu: wtf, they don't even repackage ?!
BingoBoingo: The folks who help cars park in the city also get Paraguay to flip
BingoBoingo: Police identify smuggled paraguayo by the packaging
BingoBoingo: Enterprising patriots supporting the travel industry run to paraguay to get pressed herb otherwise destined for Brasil, and...
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: No, its Uy can't get enough brains to Oregon and they run out of domestic grown
asciilifeform: is this like the cig smugglers in nyc ?
mircea_popescu: i rather doubt there's those folks with 20 mil, at least at the level here discussed. a dime bag costs ~same here as in florida. actually, maybe slightly more expensiuve here. same as with hdds or w/e else, idiocy tax, everything costs the orcs more.
BingoBoingo: Similarly I see nothing about the police busting folks trafficking "pasta base (cocaine chaw)" but they do occasionally bust folks taking cheap marihuana paraguaya to Punta Del Este

asciilifeform: mircea_popescu: in usa also when they pillage they find 'whole 20k usd' and not 20mil, for same reason
mircea_popescu: in fact, i've yet to see a piece where teh police breaking up these truly dangerous drug rings found more than ~week's pay in cash.

mircea_popescu: they have these pieces here too, "police caught dope dealing ring, confiscated some dope and 20`000 colones in cash"
mircea_popescu: wtf gangstering they might've done is anyone's guess.
asciilifeform: txt seems to imply that demolished 'because gangster', rather than 'because squat'
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform usually this is because "no need" because "everyone knows". latinos are a hopelessly fucked in the head barn animal species.
asciilifeform: no mention of this in the link, or in the prev ones
mircea_popescu: BingoBoingo is this a very poorly communicated "these idiots '''built''' out of packaging on squatted land" thing ?
mircea_popescu: but doesn't it stand to reason that if indeed they demolished 10 "gangster" houses the "gangsters" in question now have all the more incentive to squeeze the pantsuit neighbours ? and if contrairy-wise, they demolished 10 pantsuit houses, thjey just did the "gangster"s one better ?!
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i'ma guess they saw a reportage from gaza strip once, where this 'worked' so well
BingoBoingo: But hey, the 5-0 can't do raids in the night!
BingoBoingo: For some reason the Authoritits have a hard on for bulldozing shit in Casaville
mircea_popescu: BingoBoingo i don't get it, so washington pereyra informs that they demolished 10 houses including one of a woman that ambiguously either (ran a non-pantsuit-sanctioned soup kitchen) or (headed a criminal gang) because it was discovered that repeatedly gangsters asked locals "not involved in ilicit activity" to sell them their houses ?!
mircea_popescu: the time to kowtow before the golden boy is when the golden boy is seven years old. by the time he's fifteen...
mircea_popescu: as i was saying : pantsuit gotta learn that if it doesn't bend over and squirt ~OODLES~ of money when it has the chance, it'll be bent over and fucked with farming implements later on.
mircea_popescu: well ? how EXACTLY did the entire "torzilla development community" spring up ? what the fuck is a lindsey kuper ?
mircea_popescu: quite. and we'll have another nigglet that invented the clock. except it'd be isis thersephina-abdul or some retarded dumb shit like that.

kristof: I won't even bother because I have no faith in those people at all.
kristof: Oh, actually, while I have your attention, I thought I would mention that I did check out Urbit twice; the first was a few years ago back when they were still "ship", the second was maybe a year ago and that time I actually chatted a bit with those folks

kristof: I don't intend to be chatty, but I might in the future. Hopefully that doesn't sound like squatting to you.

mircea_popescu: the direct cause is literally that i perceive i owe rhodesia something.
mircea_popescu: audit the govt's computers, get the usg piezos out ? make websites that don't take FIVE SECONDS TO LOAD, like EVERY SINGLE "sales" website of EACH brick-and-mortar sex shop in chicago ?
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform i expect qatar is deeply starved of world class talent. what specifically will it do i don't know, but i expect something along the lines historical experience. what did the germans do in russia, the spanish in tenochtitlan, the british in india and so on.

mircea_popescu: alright. well, that'll be the first order of business, scout the place, register company, avoid the usual "we got ourselves a sucker" traps.
mircea_popescu: Mocky do you have any fambly however remote in or about that could be re-connected ? a local will prove invaluable, and somehow i suspect the traditional "go to local uni, pick up young filly" isn't comfortable either for you or for the place.

diana_coman: congrats on the new adventure Mocky !
mircea_popescu: i figure... you get what 2 ? 3 ? months there until the first save point, see if it can be done or can't be done ?
BingoBoingo: Mocky: These turn arounds can happen rather quickly
mircea_popescu: Mocky im not going to hold against you that you gotta pay alimony, you're not going to hold against me that i'm getting a larger share of our partnership! you get 40% of the thing (but work as if you had gotten 50%!!!) and alimony, i get 60% and there you go.

a111: Logged on 2018-08-23 21:45 mircea_popescu: mod6 i'm sorry, but ima have to refund you. whole exercise turned into a massive pile of idiocy. im closing an entire bank out of the loop over their idiotic misbehaviour ; we'll have to try this again later on.
trinque: what was the problem y'all had with receiving?
mod6: ah, i see, so for instance trinque could say, "selling 4000 USD for ECU", exactly like yourself with the last one
mircea_popescu: yes, and that's fine, however a "by hand" approximation of bot function is nutty. doing flight "by hand" means flapping wings like birds, not trying to fart hot gasses like jet engine. sewing by hand means, with needle, not trying to do sewing machine. and dealing by hand dun mean "let's make noises like an auction bot by moving fingers on kbd", just talk to whoever set it up without the formalism.
mod6: I guess, either that, or we just wait until lobbes is ready.
mod6: lol. I'd rather not do it that way. I'd love to use the bot, but sometimes gotta do things by hand when we don't have the tools.
mod6: people just bid by saying what their bid is in #trilema.
lobbes: however I ended up purging the znc user and all traces from the thing. Coming live now from irssi from pizarro shared hosting (used danielpbarron's spiffy guide >> http://danielpbarron.com/2018/irssi-on-pizarro-shared-hosting/)
mircea_popescu: instead ~he~ gotta auction the fiatola.
a111: Logged on 2018-07-09 22:25 mircea_popescu: the correct solution is to distinguish selling and buying auctions. change the "A#285" lede into either "B#285" or "S#285" and then if it's a S have it work as it works now, but if it's a B have it work ~reverse~, so smaller bids overbid larger bids.
mod6: We could do some sort of open outcry auction in here. Where Pizarro auctions off 1 BTC, and the winner send funds to specified destinations.
mod6: as soon as I have one, I'll be sending out the invoices immediately.
mod6: trinque: yeah, not sure how that'd work. i'd like to see more price points. but if we can't receive dollars bought, then I dunno.
mircea_popescu: trinque i think you have to do it ; reverse auction still not there.
trinque: hey mod6, when's the next auction?
BingoBoingo: lol, I just can't believe this chicken I've never met cheated my out of the good stuff
mod6: jurov: how's it going with the move of the ML?
asciilifeform: in other lulz, the 'bernstein as nsa stooge' concept slowly percolates from the republic, https://sporaw.livejournal.com/538323.html
BingoBoingo: So I'm putting together my healthy 4 egg veggie scramble, and one of the eggs didn't have a yolk
mircea_popescu: you don't. the cowsies just wanna.
asciilifeform: the spread of copper bandits might change the equation tho.
asciilifeform: in some places they guard'em, but usually not (picture the cost), typically proprietor figures that monkeying near hv lines is self-punishing
mircea_popescu: can prolly even bury stuff along the lines. nobody will ever fucking find.
asciilifeform: just stand in the near field. ( recall the folx with unplugged fluorescent lamps )
asciilifeform: for these, frying pan wound with magnet wire ~at ground level~, as tuned circuit, is actually enuff
asciilifeform: i'd avoid ^ these , cable with multi-kV insulation aint cheap
asciilifeform: even on street light line. certainly enuff to run just about anything you might care to fit in the box.
mircea_popescu: but yes, judging by how ubiquitous "computer mouse thrown over power lines" are in urban environment (when it's not sneakers, at any rate) might be very practical approach -- put the inductive coil in the mouse cable ; and the transmitter in the body.
asciilifeform: think back to the old-school noncontact ac voltmeter, same principle.
